Glenn Greenwald, one of the reporters who chronicled the document dump by National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden via the U.K. press, now said he’s set to publish his most dramatic piece yet: The names of those in the United States targeted by the NSA.
“One of the big questions when is comes to domestic spying is, ‘Who have been the NSA’s specific targets?’ Are they political critics and dissidents and activists? Are they genuinely people we’d regard as terrorists? What are the metrics and calculations that go into choosing those targets and what is done with the surveillance that is conducted? Those are the kinds of questions that I want to still answer,” Mr. Greenwald told The Sunday Times of London.

More releases coming soon! I think this will prove exactly what we all expected, that the NSA is spying on not threats to our country but ordinary people, simply because they can.

I hope I make the list!

The man who helped bring about the most significant leak in American intelligence history is to reveal names of US citizens targeted by their own government in what he promises will be the “biggest” revelation from nearly 2m classified files.

Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who received the trove of documents from Edward Snowden, a former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor, told The Sunday Times that Snowden’s legacy would be “shaped in large part” by this “finishing piece” still to come.

His plan to publish names will further unnerve an American intelligence establishment already reeling from 11 months of revelations about US government surveillance activities.

Greenwald, who is promoting his book No Place To Hide and is trailed by a documentary crew wherever he goes, was speaking in a boutique hotel near Harvard, where he was to appear with Noam Chomsky, the octogenarian leftist academic.

“One of the big questions when it comes to domestic spying is, ‘Who have been the NSA’s specific targets?’," he said.

“Are they political critics and dissidents and activists? Are they genuinely people we’d regard as terrorists?

What are the metrics and calculations that go into choosing those targets and what is done with the surveillance that is conducted? Those are the kinds of questions that I want to still answer.”

Greenwald said the names would be published via The Intercept, a website funded by Pierre Omidyar, the billionaire founder and chairman of eBay. Greenwald left The Guardian, which published most of the Snowden revelations, last autumn to work for Omidyar.

“As with a fireworks show, you want to save your best for last,” Greenwald told GQ magazine. “The last one is the one where the sky is all covered in spectacular multicoloured hues.”

Conspiracy nonsense based, as usual, on nothing.

Seriously, dude... the "Great Satan" thing? Not real.

Have you been here for the past year? Did you miss the news about the NSA? Grabing everyones data, spying on activists, professors, watching peoples porn habits, grabing "too much data they can handle"?

Seriously, dude... the "Great Satan" thing? Not real.

Who said anything about the "Great Satan"?

Why are you so up-set? The America you want NEEDS this kinda of surveillance and oppression to exist.

How is that a good thing?

Sure, if you can't trust the government to do what is right for us, who can you trust? No need to worry about them spying on us, of course not.

It's true. Thus all I need.

Debate with you is pointless, because you bring nothing substantial to the table. You always move the goalposts to debate something other than the topic at hand.

I'm not trusting anyone. I'm just not stupid enough to believe a conspiracy theory like "the NSA spies on whomever they want just because they can".

You did, and you do all the time. "US = Great Satan" is the only OP you know. Don't even try to pretend.

But, not Obama! Notice how Obama's name is never mentioned?

Let's wait and see whose names are on the list.

Let's wait and see whose names are on the list.

Or...

Let's claim the NSA spies on whomever they want just because they can and thousands, no, tens of thousands of people are complacent in the conspiracy.

Oh, wait, I'm not a moron... so I can't do that.

Let's wait and see whose names are on the list.

Do you remember the Mail incident during Andrew Jackson's administration? You see, abolitionist mail was going through the post office and was found in South Carolina. South Carolinians, intent on keeping the slavery regime, felt that this literature was encouraging rebellion and so forth. South Carolinians had a few options to deal with this controversy. Upon asking for his advice, Andrew Jackson offered his own solution. His solution was that you distribute the mail, but you put the names of those who received abolitionist literature in the newspapers. The individuals would then have to claim the mail. Of course, that solution was perhaps a reasonable one for the Post Office in South Carolina, because it ostracized those who happened to have been in the mailing lists of northern abolitionists and everyone knew who was the Judas and could be treated more harshly. Jackson's solution didn't come to fruition, because a mob formed and burned the offending mail.

The consequences of putting the names of those who were spied upon by the NSA should not be taken lightly.

To me this is just the cherry on the attention whoring cake that is the Snowden scandal.

For example:
Greenwald, who is promoting his book No Place To Hide and is trailed by a documentary crew wherever he goes, was speaking in a boutique hotel near Harvard, where he was to appear with Noam Chomsky, the octogenarian leftist academic.

He is eating up his 15+ minutes with a spoon and savoring every bite at the limelight.

If he wasn't a self-aggrandizing blowhard, I might have actually cared more about this, but when a journalist makes himself a big part of the story, I just can't muster the outrage. The circus that has been made of this since day one has completely detracted from what should have been a serious discussion in this country. One I cared about not too long ago. Snowden and Greenwald deserve each other and whatever the fallout that comes of this crapfest and the blame for what doesn't change that should have. I used to have a bit of respect for Greenwald. He could be counted on to make everyone uncomfortable with his well asked questions. He's transformed into a preening jerk. Bah.

Ok, let me have it (better phrasing).

No, it should not be taken lightly, particularly is some people believe that it is the spied upon, not the violators of the Constitution of the united States, who should be under suspicion.

If you're serious, that's pretty odd, but if you're being sarcastic, it's not exactly a joking matter.

A serious issue is a serious issue. You admit that this issue deserves greater attention. Hold your nose, and give it the attention it deserves, then, because it really is bigger than any blowhard.

Debate with you is pointless, because you bring nothing substantial to the table. You always move the goalposts to debate something other than the topic at hand.

Woah buddy, you're the one that in a previous thread dismissed, with SEIU spin and lies the reality the SEIU forced, against their will some 30-40 THOUSAND poor, low income "home health caregivers" (read family members taking care of disabled family generally) into being unionized, in the process stealing MILLIONS from them. You had no problem with this enforced government mandated unionization. That the moment these people were able to break from they did so in a majority of the cases and your anger at this reality shows you WANT government to enforce behavior you support.

Ergo your being upset at the NSA Spying is puzzling, seeing as to have the world you want you need government to do things like spy on citizens.

The problem here isn't me moving goalposts, it's your upset that I call you out and that you have no defense. I spoil your little propaganda speeches.

How? The circus they generated gives cover to those who would rather not see the problem solved. If Greenwald/Snowden had not gleefully made themselves the topic, the media attention would have been on those who should be taken to task and those who should be called upon to fix NSA. It's not now because of this giant media circus.
