Journalist Glenn Greenwald's new book No Place to Hide hit shelves Tuesday. In it, Greenwald tells the story of how he came into contact with former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, and his months of reporting on the some of the NSA's most coveted secrets. The new book also contains a trove of new NSA documents that were released for the first time today. RT's Sam Sacks breaks down this new information being reveiled about the NSA.

Yup! 6 billion a month! 74 million in Poland! So much so that the NSA admits that they are collecting so much more so that they can handle, yet they continue to do it. Literally NSA is(was) the big brother of the world! Another document shows that the NSA focused on Venezuelan oil, Japanese trade, and Mexican energy issues. Big brother of the world!

And you don't think that the information should be collected and mined to the extent possible?
Zhat seems to me to be a very valuable instrument. Probably we need to manage it better and install more robust and legitimate controls of the use. But in general? Good stuff.

No, the **** hit the fan when Snowden revealed they have been/still are spying on American citizens in CONUS.

Hi there American!
I don't quite understand the CONUS. Carnivorous snails?

Greenwald was Colbert's guest last night, and it was a terrific interview. Glenn was at his most focused and most eloquent. :)

they are still spying on americans in america. Is what he said.

That is something else and my statement applies. Of course the government is not allowed to break the law. And of course the persons responsible must be identified and punished. But that does not mean we should forego using extensive data mining. It only means that we need to structure government better.

I fully expect other countries to try and spy on us, and I fully expect my country to try and spy on them. The only thing we did wrong was get caught imho

This is what they are supposed to do: spy on the world for the advantage of the US.

It is the spying on us which is the outrage and for which they need to be held accountable for.

Yea! Our government should only respect our laws but no one else laws or privacy! **** all those innocent people we collect data! How "libertarian" of you

Why do we need to collect data at this extent? How many terrorist attacks have they stopped? Whats the point of collecting data on innocent people?

Do you really think that other countries aren't spying on us?

Because one day, they not be so innocent.

There are many reasons to collect such data. It very much depends on the exact data being mined, how it can help. The areas run from crime fighting and terror prevention over hralth and traffic planing to monitoring for insider trading, corruption or political shenanigans among very many others.

Somebody proposed that the data be kept by the companies, and provided only upon warrant to the government, particularly describing...

I, for one, am shocked that an intelligence agency tasked with collecting intelligence on foreign threats and intentions would collect information on foreigners!

WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE! A SPY AGENCY SPYING?! WELL I NEVER!

You say that like it's a bad thing.

This is one of the main reasons I call for Obama to be impeached and removed from office. Unfortunately, Republicans want to dwell more on Benghazi fairy tales than the real world that Obama is totally screwing with.

For allowing an intelligence agency to spy?

That's their whole point

On their own freaking people? That's MY point!! If I am not breaking the law, then whatever the **** I do is none of the government's damn business.

Time for you to go back and read what you quoted.

The position that any type of international spying is acceptable is based on the notion that people in other countries have no right to privacy. I believe all people are entitled to that right.

That position is based on the notion that people in other countries have no right to privacy. I believe all people are entitled to that right.

And all people should have a right to life, so all armies should be disbanded, too.

It's incredibly naive, and something only someone with no responsibility for national defense would espouse.
