Here's what hating "whistle blowers" on government spying of monitoring citizens leads too. A Bill that will allow the Feds to scour the Internet for anything they *think* or deem as "hate speech". That would include anything said on websites like Debate Politics, concerning these subjects, based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and create recommendations to address such crimes.

Don't think it could happen? We could be creating an environment that we didn't expect or want. Watch out who you condemn, it may be yourself.

If two Democratic lawmakers have their way, Barack Obama’s Justice Department will submit a report for action against any Internet sites, broadcast, cable television or radio shows determined to be advocating or encouraging “violent acts.”

This according to the text of a new bill from Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

The Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014 “would create an updated comprehensive report examining the role of the Internet and other telecommunications in encouraging hate crimes based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and create recommendations to address such crimes,” stated a news release from Markey’s office.

The one-page bill, reviewed by WND, calls for the Justice Department and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to “analyze information on the use of telecommunications, including the Internet, broadcast television and radio, cable television, public access television, commercial mobile services, and other electronic media, to advocate and encourage violent acts and the commission of crimes of hate.”

This OP is trying to equate "promoting violence" with "hate speech" by the government.

And I don't see a problem with that either, so long as the penalty is akin to conspiracy to commit hate graffiti or hate vandalism. Personally I've been against the hate-crime enhancement, but after a year back on here, I see again that really it needs to be there. The irrational, hyped, teen-age type hysterical hatred that some people exhibit, deserves more punishment than other crimes.

I do not argue in any manner that crimes should not be investigated and prosecuted but examination of all postings on the internet and other telecommunications, assisted by massive computer banks, is not compatible with the 4th amendment.

EDIT: The legal search process is show probable cause, get a warrant and then look; not look first and then use what you found to show probable cause.

Now the government is interested in that, so it's not a stretch that this might pop up on their radar. But what if just typing the "N" word becomes a no-no?

I mean, the NBA just essentially stripped a man of any association with basketball or his own multi hundred million dollar team for something he said in private. Now keep laughing and thinking nothing can touch us or will change. It's very unlikely, they'll watch 300 million people easily, but the technology to monitor us for saying the wrong things is coming soon.

Sterling was not sanctioned by the government in any way, shape or form. He was sanctioned by a private entity for violating the agreed-upon standards of his participation.

obviously the feds can, but its a huge slope between going after a wannabe warlord like tigger than someone like me. These things have happened in the past, but we will see it coming years in advance.

The difference is this new Bill will allow them to use anything you've said, anywhere in print, as a reason to interpret whether you've instigated hate crimes with hate speech. That's a very wide swath of power to investigate and condemn on someones interpretive judgment.

What if you were just describing to another person about how "racism and bigotry" get started and the FED' says that was a hate crime?
