Magic Johnson reportedly interested in buying the Los Angeles Clippers | The Point Forward - SI.com

With Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist remarks coming to light over the weekend, the emphasis has now shifted to “what’s next” for the controversial owner and his distracted franchise.

One of the biggest discussions has centered around the future of the Clippers and whether the NBA and commissioner Adam Silver will force Sterling to sell that franchise. In that vein, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting Lakers legend Magic Johnson and his ownership group are interested in buying the team if Sterling is forced (or chooses) to sell:

Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. “Magic’s absolutely interested,” one source closely connected to Johnson’s business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night

Hmmm, GF last seen taking pictures with Magic Johnson....

To quote the (in)famous Marion Barry (former mayor of D.C.): "The bitch set me up!". ;)

Bizarre how many conservatives always creep out the woodwork to defend racist.

I'm sure they were cheering the burning of Dixie Chick CD's but man....how dare people object to racist comments.

Works for me.

No one here is defending what he said. That's all an illusion in your head.

What I am doing is making a case that he was set up so he would sell the team.

Calling Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer...

Dog crap on a cracker. Who the hell is defending the guy?

That's possible. If the article is accurate, it sure looks possible, since Magic was the guy she was with that got him to say the things he said.

I guess you could say that you don't agree with what he said but you don't think there should be any consequence for it either.

Since it was a private conversation that was likely illegally taped...no I don't.

Fact of the matter is everyone who was close to this guy knew what he thought. It's not a surprise to the media or the NBA/players.

But they still kept playing for him, still kept taking his money. The NAACP knew he was a racist, but they were about to give him a second lifetime achievement award. The NBA knew he was a racist, but they closed ranks around him and said nothing.

But the pretend outrage from all of them makes for great theater, some chest thumping & high fiving, and meanwhile, the racist will laugh all the way to the bank.

Most of all it angers the Democrat voting base which is why it's a big deal now.

Well shoot the cat is out of the bag now, I mean whether or not its acceptable to tape record someone and expose something they say is one thing but whether its right or wrong we know about now. We can't just ignore it and do nothing about it

Bizarre how many liberals believe that racists don't have rights.

Sterling's "rights" don't enter into the equation at all. The NBA is doing this by the book, enforcing rules that he agreed to when he joined the league's community of owners. His "rights" aren't being violated because the private organization he belongs to has chosen to punish him based on its own bylaws.

Contacts cannot be upheld if they are illegal.

Do people lose constitutional rights when they join an organization?
Nope.

That being said, its dammed amusing how Johnson is caught up in the middle if this.

What "constitutional right" is being violated here? The government is not sanctioning Sterling, the NBA is. How the NBA conducts internal business does not fall under the constitution's jurisdiction regarding the "rights" of the parties involved.

No, YOU and yours can't ignore it and do nothing about it.

What happens when the shoe is on the other foot? Like Cuban said, "Slippery slope" "Who's next?"

Where in those bylaws does it say an illegally taped *private* conversation can come into play?

I bet nowhere.

Where in the bylaws does it say it can't? The NBA is not held to the same constitutional protections and burden of proof as the government.

No one is above the law even the thugs in the NBA.

I don't think it would be right to ignore it, do you think it would be right to ignore it?
