Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'[W:196]

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

The purpose of the safe gun is to design a gun that only fires if the owner pulls the trigger, and hopefully eliminate accidental deaths due to user error.

What if the owner is in a life threatening situation, and family members were in a position to intervene?

As LaMidRighter and Jerry have described, HOPEFULLY eliminating 'user error' is best left to current safety mechanisms.

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

No, it's called a fact.
Then prove it.

You see, the vast majority of gun owners take the ownership responsibility to ensure access is limited. What many control advocates want is to restrict everyone because of those who either illegally possess guns or are careless which is a distinct minority...

I think gun safety courses should be mandatory to buying and owning a gun and I seriously doubt the majority of gun owners ever took one.

It's very easy to prove as I have never sold a gun I have purchased/built, so it can be validated that they never hurt anyone...

Good evening, AP. :2wave:

And a good evening to you as well pg. As you can see, I'm making my bi-weekly appearance...

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

If by "insult" you mean beat your arguments, proved your lack of knowledge of the subject, and asserted my own. Guilty.

You seem to be in denial of what the topic is really about....which is intimidation and bullying by gun enthusiasts.

Is that your reason for not taking gun safety courses? Really?

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

Is that your reason for not taking gun safety courses? Really?

Since most incidents of gun violence are committed by criminals, yes it is my reason. You should worry more about the illegal gun trade than the legal along with the underlying reasons...

That's doesn't prove anything to anyone who doesn't know you. Like I said, 'anecdotal evidence'.

'Gun enthusiasts' threaten woman for selling a safer gun

Posted a couple of links. How sad is it that the NRA opposes technology that would limit the usage of handguns?

In the words of the NRA, this might lead to "opening the door to a ban on all guns that do not possess the government-required technology."

Except that no one at this point is even suggesting this technology be government mandated. Given the millions of legal guns currently in circulation, I am not even certain that such a requirement could even be technically or logistically feasible, let alone desirable.

But... leaving that aside for a moment, how deluded are people if they think that this is the beginning of some kind of gun-armageddon? No one is suggesting you give up normal guns, no one is suggesting that we get rid of them. This is just one way of protecting people from gun-related accidents and tragedies. In the words of the Daily Kos article,

Yah! More Big Brother watching us all!

If you have a problem with accidental child death, you need to looks elsewhere. Water and gravity kill more kids than accidental shootings.

Actually more incidents are committed with a legal gun owner's own gun. You should worry more about gun owners who never took a gun safety course.

And I only care about the opinions of those that do know me. You don't, so your opinion is of little value with regards to my personal situation...

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

I have a feeling that Bloomberg's cash infusion is going to be the turning point against NRA dominance regarding the Second Amendment.

So far, the Bloomberg sponsored group has not questioned whether or not the Second Amendment is an individual right. This sets them far apart from past gun control groups.

Rather, the new "Moms" group has attacked the NRA for obstructing back grounds checks via private seller loopholes, their fixation with AR-15 clones, their expansion of "Stand Your Ground" laws to new states, and support of "carry a weapon to a bar" type laws.

If this group can keep affirming the Second Amendment and only attack NRA obsessions, my guess is that they are not only going to attract anti gunner, but moderate gun owners as well.

You cannot “…keep affirming the Second Amendment…” by proposing and advocating ways to violate it.

Re: Gun enthusiasts threaten woman for marketing 'safer gun'

Ok i see now. But lets say you are being mugged at gunpoint are able to get the gun away form the mugger.

I would want the ability to able to use the gun against the thug wouldnt you?

So the people who invented and manufacture this device should be prohibited from selling it?

No, but it should not be forced on anyone...

No, I drop in here to exchange ideas, not defend my character. Your opinion is as valid as mine even if it is wrong...

Gun owners 100% should take a safety course or sorts. I'm hesitant to say it's mandatory though because then nothing really stops the government from charging 1200/course and only offering it once a year on Christmas. Though if we wanted to say that gun safety and handling should be a standard high school course like driver's ed, then I'd be down for that. Educate everyone.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, then. :)

In the words of the Daily Kos article,

You have to be pretty ignorant to think that government won't try, and that in the attempt, make it considerably more difficult and affordable for law-abiding citizens to “legally” acquire firearms. I don't know that this is Ms. Padilla's intent, but you have to know that that is going to happen.

It's already happened, to a degree, in California. A law was enacted here, requiring all new handguns meeting certain criteria to include “micro-stamping”*technology. The result is that several manufactures of affected guns have simply withdrawn them from the California market, citing the infeasibility of meeting this new requirement. This “smart gun” technology has far more potential to be abused in a similar manner, as a means of making guns unaffordable and unavailable to the public, than it has to prevent any accidental injuries or deaths.

One doesn't need a course necessarily, one just needs to make sure they understand safety which is easy and only requires a bit of common sense. Don't point until ready to shoot, don't point at anything you don't want to shoot, don't put a finger on the trigger until ready to shoot, check the chamber when in doubt, and always know the location and accessibility of your firearm to insure that children and irresponsible people cannot access them. Follow those basics and no one will be hurt.
