First, educational attainment in the United States has risen far more slowly than in much of the industrialized world over the last three decades, making it harder for the American economy to maintain its share of highly skilled, well-paying jobs.

So what exactly have all the wonderful, liberal / progressives in the school systems brought us?
Lagging educational attainment!

We spend the most money on education, and we sure don't seem to be getting our money's worth. Time to cut back on that then.

Do we really expect that Obama's 'income inequality' initiatives will really do anything about this situation when at the heart of it, it's educational attainment? Seriously?

How about we ditch the stupid Common Core and get back to some non-coddling common sense education for the kids sake?
Perhaps we'll only lose the present teen age and young adult generation. Doesn't look like they are going to amount to much anyway.

This is what change looks like people! redistribution of wealth means stealing from producers and giving to poor.

I don't live far from the boarder, and I have actually thought about moving to Canada. My brother also talks about it. I am just not sure how difficult it would be to get the proper paperwork filed to get a job there, etc. lol. I like Iceland also. It's just beautiful and a great place to live if you are physically active and like hiking.

Well for a start, people dont go bankrupt if they get sick in Canada.

You pay the $50, 000 in medical bills now, that person either doesn't die or end up on disability and produces hundreds of thousands of dollars of tax revenue and economic activity in their lifetime.

Its economical and civilized to boot.

If you cut spending of infrastructure, education, research, college tuition grants, etc. then that is going to cut into the middle class and jobs. You're basically taking the federal deficit and putting on the backs of your kids and grandkids in the form of personal debt, and that hurts the middle class. Just look at the sequester. Yes, it was spending cut, and a very small spending cut in comparison to the rest of the budget, but kids were kicked out of Head Start, people were layed off/forced to work for no pay, and government contracts were cancelled. I know people in the DC area working with government contracting firms in areas like science and IT, and two of my friends lost their jobs. One went in the private sector and the other is still unemployed.

Dunno, but doesn't the federal debt, fed by year on year federal deficits, also end up on the kid and grandkids' backs?

Last I heard DC and the surrounding suburbs aren't hurting all that much.

The D.C. suburbs dominate the list of wealthiest U.S. counties
 
That is scary. I feel like there is little hope for America with people thinking like that. :(

I am in the generation that will and has inherited the debt. Putting it on our backs in the form of personal debt is worse than having a federal deficit which even the baby boomers and millionaires and pay some on. It hurts the economy, because my generation is not spending, buying houses, and we are delaying children or not having them. Instead, we are paying off deb, loans, and taxes, and trying to catch in saving and planning for retirement. I will probably be in debt my entire life if this keeps up.

Cutting things like grant programs to pay for college tuition so millionaires can pay lower taxes is exactly why the middle class is shrinking and the richest and doing great. They have lobbyist and pay thousands of dollars to eat dinners with politicians, influence them, and influence the language in bills that are written before they are even taken to the floor to vote.

We have a oligarchy, and recent research provides proof of that claim. It's not just my opinion that America is becoming an oligarchy. There is research supporting the claim.

Little hope for America with people thinking the polar opposite and just as extreme (NIMBY - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

As always, some sort of middle ground will likely be best, should it be allowed to come to the fore by the extremists.

Not sure if I'd go that far, but on the other hand, I've not looked over the research that you've mentioned.

I'd like to see a rip roaring economy that can't hire enough people fast enough, which would in fact, drive up wages very quickly. Perhaps even sufficiently to afford the federal debt that has landed on the backs of those who are not responsible for incurring it

Most education money comes from local govt, but the Fed has all kinds of rules they like impose from on high. That's where the problem is.
