President Obama Could Grant Clemency To Thousands Of Non-Violent Drug Offenders

Drug offenders, not drug dealers. Possession and using are drug offenses.

Definitions of dealers can be weird though. Especially when cops dont need to catch you dealing. They just catch you over a certain quantity and go "ooooohhhh must be a dealer". If Obama had balls he'd free all non violent drug offenders. Except obvious kingpins where people had control of millions as a syndicate.

IF you read the article, they have established an objective to move people out of prison in cases where there has been sentencing disparity (like tough sentences for crack vs lighter sentences for coke) or where current sentencing guidelines are not has harsh as the sentences served. That is the objective. The initiative now is to set guidelines against which each case can be adjudged. The ultimately goal is to get non-violent / over-sentenced persons out of the prison system.

This was reported on Fox news, but I can't seem to find a MSM news report about it?

On one hand it could be good. We shouldn't imprison victimless crimes. If people want to kill themselves doing drugs we should let them. 130k a year, I hear is the average cost to imprison someone. It would be cheaper to give them free drugs at outpatient clinics and let them rot in the streets.

One problem with it is that it could add hundreds of thousands of instant Democrat voters to the rolls.

Seriously? Partisan demographic considerations might trump a solution to a serious, socially-crippling problem?
No wonder your country is the most incarcerated nation in the world (a few third-world dictatorships aside) when people actually think like this.

...and what is your basis for that asinine comment? Do you have some data that suggests that drug offenders overwhelming vote democrat or are you just assuming they are all black (as we do know blacks vote democratic). One thing is for sure: moving "hundreds of thousands" out of prison and back to the employment roles will lower government dependence and, correspondingly, the deficit.
Democrat president just got your 20 year sentence cancelled and you're a free man, who you going to vote for?

What if they promise to vote Republican- can they get out of jail then?
