Former President Jimmy Carter believes U.S. intelligence agencies are spying on him — so much so, he eschews email to avoid government spies.

"You know, I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored," Carter told NBC's Andrea Mitchell in an interview broadcast Sunday. "And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write a letter myself, put it in the post office and mail it.

"I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored," Carter continued.
STOP THE PRESSES!!!!! I think Jimmy Carter has happened upon the achilles heel of the NSA.

Just write a letter. Acres of NSA supercomputers can't read a letter mailed in an envelope.

No but they can intercept the any letter addressed to anyone they have an interest in and read it via either opening it and putting it in a new envelope or shining a bright light through it and deciphering the image.

If you wish to check if this is happening put some photographic film in your letter and make sure it goes in in a dark room and comes out in one.

Of course he will be observed for he has high important roles. But why would the NSA watch him? He must report what has done anyway!

I would assume old Jimmy boy is right, that the government is keeping an eye on him. But nothing like total surveillance. For an ex-president, I would say it ain't no big thing.

Not sure if Jimmy is losin' it or not, but, if you were ever in the military, or worked for Uncle Sam and had a security clearance, they (US Gov't) does retain your record for many, may of years. They probably check up on people every now and then, call me a conspiracy theorist.

Not really. I served 20 years active duty and another 26 as a Department of the Army Civilian and had an SBI done every 5 years and who knows how many none disclosure forms I have signed. I finally retired from all of this a little over a year ago. It only makes sense that the government would do a little checking now and then, I view this as no big thing. If the government didn't do that, they would be negligent.

When an ex-Presidenr feels he has to use snail mail for secure communications, the Intelligence Agencies have gone too far. As an ex-leader, numero uno, of our Nation, he should be respected as a trusted confidant and/or ally of the current occupiers of the Office. His privacy should be sacrosanct.

I don't feel the same way about criminal ex-Presidents i.e. Nixon (Watergate), Bush 1 (Iran/Contra), or Bush 2 (Torture). Even Clinton doesn't fare well because of Iran/Contra and the Mena, Arkansas connection.

Luckily for you, bad cynical jokes are not a felony!

He needs a couple of lessons on steganography.

Even spell check is behind the times.

Wow, you love Carter so much.

As the only honest President you ever had, Carter will obviously be hated by the scumbags, and spied on every minute. What's new?

Well, he did do a great job in rescuing the Iranian hostages.....oh, wait.....getting them back.....ummm, wait....keeping interest rates out of double digits.....oh, cripe.....never mind.

If course the odds of it being delivered in a timely manner are not good.

That's nonsense and totally relative.

How would you know if he was the ONLY honest president.

No doubt that is what Carter is doing.

For likely the first time, I agree with this dip****.

As far as I can see, the US government is spying on everyone, allies and enemies alike, the grand children of foreign presidents, of course an active former president is going to be spied on...it's what Obama says America does best, and that is exactly what they're doing.

Hats off to Carter, I hope he has time to meet with the people at Wikileaks and Snowden et all.

Yes - he fell for the cowboys, who are good at shooting children at home, but not much else. That's what happens when good men fall amongst criminal nutters.

I think all are treated equally, I do not think one can pick and choose.

He did a good job of giving away the Panama Canal.

I listened to him. With all the others it was an obvious waste of time, slimy buggers as they were!

How about George Washington, was he dishonest too? No doubt you heard him lie.

How badly do you have to fvck up to be assigned to spying on Jimmy Carter? Gawd, the boredom would have anyone pounding nails into his head.

I am sure you would reap some exquisite peanut recipes.....
