Rush Limbaugh selection in children’s book competition causes a stir

Plenty of observers have noted that Rush is a master of pushing the buttons of liberals. All of his pomposity (Excellence in Broadcasting, etc) works to do this very well. Look at how it's worked in this thread. This is quite funny for his listeners - listening to liberals hit the roof when Rush tweaks them and then having Rush mock them. Sure, it's manipulation and it's designed to boost his ratings, but it's still funny as hell for his audience.

Just because somebody stops and stares at a train wreck, doesn't make them like the train wreck. They are just shocked, appalled maybe -- definitely glad it's not them. And sorry for the people involved in the train wreck.

You do not read very well, do you?

Good analogy!

He's a self-aggrandizing windbag. The only difference between him and Michael Moore is the beard.

So the answer is no. Kewl, thanks for sharing your... opinion.

None needed, I've got plenty. At least compared to you.

Dimes or clues?
Those guys who fostered the American Revolution were liberals, maybe the first liberals. The first to take liberalism to the streets, anyway- they rebelled against royalty and aristocracy and monopoly economics and over-taxation and a bunch of other stuff that conservatives (Tories) supported. They inspired liberal rebellions in Europe while conservatives (in Canada they were called United Empire Loyalists) received their land grants in Ontario and Quebec and Nova Scotia.
But hey, you conservatives wanna be more like the Founders, it's easy. Just adjust a couple of word definitions, revise history a little and voila! instant patriots.

Depends. Conservatives were loyalists, and American separatists could also be conservatives in that they wanted to move away from the notion that it was a revolution, that America needed an informal aristocracy, and that reason had not triumphed over revelation (among other things).

Yet the red states - Rush's supporters - are the poorest in the Union. How's that college degree working out for them?

You either don't understand the truth behind this, or you are being intellectually dishonest.

If revelation is judged to be above reason, hasn't reason triumphed?
The rest, that's a level deeper into it than I was taught in Canada.

Not even close. They are very good books. And despite the bull****, Limbaugh isn't the boogeyman you want him to be.

No, he's a former drug addict who has been married four times.

He's a college dropout.

He has been criticized for inaccuracies in reporting, and distorting facts to serve his own political biases.

You know.... he is EXACTLY the kind of guy that I want my son to be when he grows up..... NOT.

Oh come on. Dontcha wanna read about the adventures of "Rush Revere" to your little boy when he goes to bed at night? He's such a good role model!!

Only as a case study in douchebaggery and showing him what not to do in life.

Community College dropout.

Take out the religion and yes, you've listed liberal values. Conservatives stand for government control, fewer rights, obedience. While the liberals were fighting the Revolution the conservatives were nervously checking out real estate in Nova Scotia. You think liberals hate guns? Who do you think is behind all the armed rebellion in history, conservatives? Conservatives have always been agents of the government and protectors of big corporate interests when liberals were fighting for individual liberties.

I dont think you understand the difference between classical liberalism and modern "liberalism" which is really just another name progressives are ruining.

I don't care who tries to hijack the word. Like I said elsewhere, I've been liberal all my life and come from a long line of liberals and I don't need anyone to tell me what I believe.
I keep hearing all this crap about big government and taxation and gun control and all I can say is those people don't know what liberal means, on either side of the issue. I believe that government is never to be trusted, that laws and taxes are easy so we have way too much of both, that government will always follow the money and that conservatives stand for government control and mega-corporations and obedience to authority. That's what makes me a liberal- I know who hasn't got my interests at heart.
Looks to me like some who call themselves conservative don't know what that word means. They're liberal on a lot of issues, but they've convinced themselves that the word liberal means just about the opposite of what it really does.

Actually, you dont understand that there IS a difference. There is ample reading on wikipedia to provide you with insight. You could learn something tonight if you really wanted to.

I looked up 'classical liberal' and 'liberal' on Wikipedia and they say pretty much the same thing.
From 'Classical Liberalism...
"Classical liberalism is a political philosophy and ideology belonging to liberalism in which primary emphasis is placed on securing the freedom of the individual by limiting the power of the government. The philosophy emerged as a response to the Industrial Revolution and urbanization in the 19th century in Europe and the United States.[1] It advocates civil liberties with a limited government under the rule of law, private property, and belief in laissez-faire economic liberalism."
From 'Liberalism'...
"Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas such as free and fair elections, civil rights, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free trade, and private property."
I don't see enough difference there to quibble over. Each one should adopt one thing from the other.

Modern American liberals are statists, plain and simple.
