"Dad" Bites the Nose off of his Infant Son!

Why do you consider this news worthy?
This is more of a local story as appalling as it is. The 24hr. news cycle is to blame, the old 6Ws(who, what, when, where, why, what's it mean) have been expanded to fill time and sensationalism is king right now. The cliché "if it bleeds, it leads" is sadly appropriate more and more because news is about grabbing attention more than informing the public now. I have a broadcasting degree, heavy concentration on journalism and I cannot justify using it in the field because of the sad state of news, most of it is done through news wire like Reuters, AP, etc. and there are few true news gatherers left, it's not about informing the public anymore, it's about ratings and controlling the dialogue.

Had he bitten the nose off a daughter, you'd consider it so.

I guess since it's only a little boy and not a female, it's not worth knowing about, right?

All things considered, I believe the most fitting response for this pus wad would involve being stamped on until his head and chest were pulp.

As a result, the infant was transferred to Oakland Children's Hospital where doctors then determined that the infant had suffered a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, and that one-third of the child's nose had been severed.

Yeah, this "father" should be locked up in a mental ward for a while and never allowed unsupervised contact with his son ever again. This points to an all kinds of effed up individual. The mother should probably be investigated as well. Bottom line, teens having babies is a really bad idea.

At least the baby is gonna be okay. Just keep him away from the animal who helped create him.

It may be an "affiliate" but it wasn't on CNN or FOX or anything national. The "affiliate" was local only. That's why it's an "affiliate", Socrates. Local only. Seems like a guy biting an infants nose off would be national news, kinda like a psycho driving her kids into the ocean...............

This seems a common CON complaint- where is the national coverage to whatever tragedy they see most likely on the web. Yet I go to the web and see dozens of TV and newspaper links to the story. It got nation wide coverage, just not on the news you watched- and that maybe a lie- I miss news stories all the time. We had a couple convicted of killing their son by shaking here in Lawton OK. Man convicted of having sex with a 12 year old. Man shot another man for leaving pubes in the shower. Who else saw that?

Now why did the mom driving into the ocean get such coverage on national TV?

1. it was caught on cell phone

2. it was caught on cell phone

3. it was caught on cell phone

4. people rushed to save the 3 kids

5. Happy ending

Now all of that isn't to say in a day or two it won't be on all the nightly news shows- it does take a day or two to perk-up- but to sit and complain because a story you want to see on national TV didn't make it...

dude ... lets keep partisanship out of this thread please.

I would like to see a psych evaluation. There could be any number of things that are the cause of this from the schizo range of disorders to drugs.

ONCE a cause is known then a punishment can be better decided. It may be that the best punishment is treatment if there is a verifiable psychological disorder that professionals know how to treat or at least mitigate.

Regardless though, I think it is appropriate that this person never be left unsupervised around children in a private setting for the rest of his life.

While this is tragic and if I were in a situation where some dude bit my child or committed violence to my child in any way or to anyone else's child ... I would get physical with them instantly. But I cannot support vigilantism or the wish of death in the case where disablement would suffice (if reasonable possible, its not always the case) until the police or other authorities could be on scene.

Dude- you ain't no steenkin' mod so I'll post as I please...

I'm tired of the CON media bash every time a story isn't as splashed across national TV as much as they want it.

Throw in the usual suspects who have to try and top each other with what they would do to the guy and we have the usual **** fest.

Fact is adults have been doing HIDEOUS, unspeakable things to children since way before most here were born. I see little point to making it wall to wall coverage other than to give the hens something to cluck about. This isn't a political story- just a get everyone riled up.

Our mental health solutions in the US is a shambles. I'm not saying bring back insane asylums but we need psychiatric hospitals to treat these people before they break the law. This OP story goes under the WTF category.

Couldn't agree with you more. It's appalling. There seems to be little to no integrity in it anymore. Do you think it ever did? I look back at people like Cronkite and Murrow and see them as journalists that had a lot of integrity that valued getting the facts straight over being the first one to aire the story. Is that naive of me?

Even those guys had a slant but it was no where near as bad as today. A lot of the journalism duties have been consolidated so that is just as bad as a single owner of every source in a region, the only difference is the slanted central source is further edited amongst the many reporting sources. The old guys did their own digging, which was IMO much better for the public.

If he did that, life in prison without any possibility of parole. Ever.

And be sure to let the other inmates know what he is incarcerated for. I hear they hate people who mistreat children and will make thier life a living hell.

Or maybe it just comes naturally. For Pete's sakes quit making excuses for this animal.

Yes, maybe. For Pete's sake quit assuming you know anything about the guy.

It's also pretty hysterical that you think suggesting he might have been on PCP is an "excuse." Being enough of a drug addict to mutilate your own child is pretty ****ed up, dude. But, hey, if you think being a drug addict would be an "excuse," that's your prerogative. I certainly don't agree, but you're entitled to an opinion.
