Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended [W:148:245]

Re: Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended

well your comments indicate a complete lack of understanding of male children. you want prison sentences for kids who play cowboys and indians or cops and robbers?

We never played cowboys and indians at school and Ill bet most people didnt, either. That was something you played in your back yard or an open field, but not at school. Nobody took their toy guns or dollies to school...thats stupid.

well that explains a lot

Re: Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended

What I do know is that the school is run by morons.

Well, the school is in Ohio.

Re: Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended

So you agree that boy didn't know how to use a gun?

Who's to say. He was suspended for pointing his finger, not for pointing a gun. Do you have some additional information about his expertise with handguns?

Morons are all over-this state voted for Obama

If the boy had been taught gun safety and really, who in their right mind would let a child get near a gun without it.....he wouldn't have pretended to point a gun at someones head.

that's just plain moronic: gun safety means not point a GUN at someone

What was the little boy pretending he had in his hand?

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense, because the two are not the same in any way..

I'm sorry, but what is it exactly that you don't understand?

Do you think the schools just make these rules arbitrarily for no reason? Aren't teachers allowed to teach without children trying to or pretending to kill each other in the classroom, anymore?

Maybe if the kid had used his middle finger while explaining to the teacher it would have been alright.

An imaginary gun?

A "look alike firearm".

Apparently, the principle had sent out many letters over a three week period to parents warning them of the problem and the State's zero tolerance policies. So if parents can't be bothered then they shouldn't be surprised when their kid is suspended.

"...Price "has been warning the students for some weeks," said Warner. "We've had a problem at this school. The boys have gone around fake shooting and making paper guns at class. It's inappropriate. She has sent notes to parents for the past three weeks alerting them of the problem."

Entingh said he never received a notice, but was aware of school authorities telling students, including Nathan, that any gun-related behavior would have serious consequences.....<snip>...

"Ohio Department of Education statistics show Nathan isn't alone.

According to state disciplinary figures for the 2012-2013 school year, a total of 419 statewide students, from various grade levels, were suspended because of an incident in the category of "firearm look-a-likes," and an additional 38 students were expelled.

In the Columbus City Schools district, where Nathan goes to school, 12 students were expelled because of incidents in the "firearm look-a-likes" category, while 69 students were suspended. ....read.."

So a finger is now considered a lookalike firearm?

The whole lookalike firearm ruling is phenomenally stupid too. Whats so inappropriate about kids pretending they are shooting things? Like I said, PC has wiped out all common sense in schools. I fear for this next generation.

Re: Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended

I don't stay quiet when the school does something stupid.

My sons teacher wants me to grade my son at home and send the report card to school.

I told them I will not do that.

I need to know what is happening at school, they do not know what is happening at home.

I do not need to be graded as a parent. I don't even understand why they would want that, but I made it clear it will not be happening.

I am looking at the form the school wants me to fill out.

Here are the things the school wants me to grade my son on.

Discipline
Working Together
Reading And Writing
Homework
Participating
Prudence - Being Cautious
Courtesy
Dialog
Positive Habits
Multiplication Tables

Why on earth would a parent send these grades to the school. It is supposed to be the other way around.

I dunno, whats so inappropiate and PC about shooting up a school?

I don't think you understand how fingers work.

Are they something you tear from your cold dead hands? lol

Re: Ohio Student Points Finger Like Gun, Is Suspended

My kids and I shoot each other with Nerf guns on occasion. It's fun, and nobody gets hurt. Unless the fingers were used in an actual threatening manner -- as in, a specific threat intended by the gesture -- then this is a shameful overreaction. Context should matter, folks.

I fear this teaches children the wrong lesson.

The consequences of real gun violence are pain and death. The consequences of pretend gun violence are nothing -- no physical harm. That's a distinction children are quite capable of making, even if administrators sometimes aren't

If you could, I wouldn't be surprised if you tried.

They are, evidentially, to total spineless morons.

Not a damn thing when it involves little fingers.

So now you believe there is some correlation or social conspiracy between finger guns of young children and school shooters?

How grandiose for you!
