Kremlin Clears Way for Force in Ukraine; Separatist Split Feared

Very few are combat troops. Ramstein is HQ for mechanics, medical personnel, administrative staff, logistics, that kind of thing.

There are 40,000 troops in Germany, 10,000 in Italy and 9,000 in England. That should be good to hold the fort down, until fresh troops can be airlifted into the AO.

So basically I'm seeing a bunch of American posters who are all gleeful that millions of people in the Ukraine might find themselves occupied by Russia against their will, while their country's autonomy is decimated and they are re-sucked back into the new USSR... all because it gives them yet another opportunity to bash Obama.

Not every ****ing thing in this world is defined by American partisanship, folks. There are real people in Ukraine, people who have been robbed blind by a corrupt president who they finally manage to drive out of office, only to discover that the Russians have dusted him off, invaded their country and potentially plan to reinstall him as Moscow's puppet back in Kiev once the country has been fully occupied. And all you neanderthal knuckledraggers can think of is, "herp-derp OBAMA yuk-yuk-yuk."

Disgusting.

OMG, stop being so dramatic!

Did Obama back down before or after ASsad gave up his weapons of children destruction ?
I'm on the side which believes that the CIC should be ready to put up, or shut up.

If he wasn't ready to go hot, he should have never made threats to do so.

What'd Obama do? He shot his mouth off and while he was busy hiding behind Congress' skirts, Putin maneuvered a naval task force between our ships and Syria basically sayng, "do it! I double dawg dare ya!". At which time, Obama had to back down, allowing him to, "be clear", that he is a great big candy ass and can be easily intimidated.

Obama backed down long before. And, Assad still hasn't given up hi chem weapons.

The lie that it was all Kerry's idea and that the plan allowed Syria to avoid US intervention.

It's not a lie. If you'd listen to Kerry, he was responding to a reporters question of weather or not there was something president Assad could do to avoid US military engagement. John Kerry threw that out as somewhat of an impossibility, saying that there's little chance he would comply. But behold, Putin jumped on it. But dude, whether or not Kerry was speaking outside his script, we avoided another US military engagement in the ME, and!! President Assad surrenders his WMD. And you consider this an Obama failure. Just fantastic.

Assad hasn't surrendered jack ****. He's already missed the 5 Feb deadline and agreed on a 27 Apr deadline, that I'm sure he'll miss as well. To date, Assad has surrendered all but 96% of his chem weapons.

Putin doesn't care about all of the Ukraine, only the really good part, like the east. It's like attacking someone's house and taking only the really, really good stuff. Sure you can have most of the house, the roof, trees, but we want the jewelry, car, garage, and the piggy banks. Obama will be shown up by a real leader somewhere in Europe or maybe even Canada, and of course, Obama and his apologists will lay all the credit on Obama.. My God lib's, look, this isn't about race or hatred of the President, it's about leadership. He has none, he has never shown us any, and he sure as **** ain't feared by anyone. He isn't going to get any legacy from Obamacare, at least not a good one, why not man up and actually do something worthy of an American President.

The Crimea is virtually a different country/region then the Ukraine...it is semi-autonomous. Has been for a LONG time. It houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet...obviously they are going to have Russian troops there.

It is not surprising AT ALL that Russia will send more troops into the Crimea.

Now, if they start sending troops deep into the eastern Ukraine outside of the Crimea...then it gets a bit concerning. Until they do this...there is nothing major for the west to worry about.

What exactly do these partisan Obama-attackers want the POTUS to do? Start flying in U.S. troops into the Crimea...even though no one official there has requested it? That would be INCREDIBLY stupid.
Send in U.S. troops to the Ukraine? They have not been invited. That also would be incredibly stupid.

Then what else? Talk tougher? And say what exactly? They cannot tell the Russians to leave the Crimea since they are allowed to be there. They could threaten the Russians if they enter the Eastern Ukraine in force..but they (the West) are already doing that. Any more threats would just be posturing and, IMO, foolish.

I think Obama is a lousy POTUS (just as G.W.Bush was)...but I do not see him doing ANYTHING wrong on this SO FAR.

Lots of Europeans thought (think?) they're living in a world beyond violence. It's part of why they look down on brutish Americans. I find their idealism charming, personally.

Not really about idealism, it's about many disparate groups living in close proximity. Europe does not have the luxury that America enjoys (land mass) and NO neighbouring threats. Big difference. Funny though, when Europe tries to integrate (European Union) America jumps on that idea, also :doh

It is regional 'power' politics at play. Wait until China decides to flex a bit of military muscle, that will be the time to worry....

Really? How many soldiers do you know? The vast majority of everyone I know from the time I was 20 on is military or ex-military, and I wouldn't say all of them believe anything.

The fact of the matter is that Europe likes to think they're in a post-violence world. They've been able to think that because the US has been doing the majority of fighting on behalf of Western interests since World War II. The odds of that continuing, though, for the next 70 years as it has the last are very low. They'll learn, sooner or later.

OK soldier boy.

Heya Gernman. :2wave: Doesn't it seem like each group of people out there.....like want their own little state to run and control for themselves and their own people. Despite belonging to larger countries.

Take a walk through Europe. Literaly every country has a significant minority.

The Bascs, Catalonians, Flams and on and on

Where is the Russian guy who kept moaning about how bad the Maidan protests are on this forum?

I would like to see him justify the illegal intervention by his country.

I hope this will turn a page on Russia and on us Europeans, that it will encourage us Europeans to strive for more energy independence and unite again in a common cause against those barbaric hordes in the east as a common enemy.

If the Russians want the cold war back, I say they can have it back and go bankrupt all over again.

We sure do.

http://www.ramstein.af.mil/

Over 54,000 servicemen stationed over there.

Service men and troops are not quite the same thing.

Ramstein is an Air Force bas the vast majority of people there are essentially uniformed airport staff.

We have no combat troops any where close to the Ukraine

This is what happens when the US has a weak leader the world can read like an open book-the worlds less savory cats are comfortable openly punking us. Now I know those of us on the left love this thinking its a good thing for the US to lose influence, only to be replaced by violence and less savory characters like russia.

Hmm..Russia invades Georgia and takes territories from them, now they are doing the same with Ukraine.

Now last I knew Russia was signatory to the UN Charter and the Geneva Convention. Now I can't remember which one has it but one of those has a clause in it that prohibits taking over another countries territory. Which means they are violating treaties. Why is this being allowed?

Since that is the case, why would any partisans have a problem with Russia securing said port from fears of being taken over.

How would the USA feel if Taiwan, Japan, or the Philipines, which we don't border, were attacked and fell ?
Mexico was taken over by drug cartels and all we did was pitch them some cash. Hmmm.

Could it be that all the super powers answer to the same masters?

Instead, let's sit back, do nothing, allow things to get totally out of control, then loose even more men and more money getting things back right again.

Hey! That plan worked great during WW2, where 40 million people died, including 400 thousand Americans.
:lamo

There's nothing quite like a slippery slope to provide humor in the morning.
