US to Ukraine: Get Security Forces out of Independence Square

-- Obama might get on TV and talk ****, or something...lok! --

What other action has any US President taken in similar circumstance? What do you suggest the US does to show it is tough?

Go right back to the Soviet invasions of Hungary and Czechoslovakia - no US President sent troops or blockaded Russia.

I suggest the president doesn't make threats he's afraid to carry out.

Georgia is another example. The US is not going to war with Russia over its puppet satellites.

I've not seen any threats yet? I know there is a visa ban and the EU has chosen to impose sanctions.

There's no way we do anything more than "threaten" or sanctions. This is the kind of thing that Putin won't back down over and could escalate exponentially.

It does have some parallel to the Cuban missile crisis, where the Ukraine is Cuba, and Russia doesn't want us on their doorstep.

That is the Europeans' neighborhood and Russia's. Red Lines should be left to them and the US can help its allies, if need be.

Correct. This is a civil war - or the start of one. The U.S. shouldn't even comment.

This civil war would have major effects on the Global economy. Russia pipes millions of gallons of oil and natural gas to Europe through the Ukraine. Any civil war that erupts in this Russian satellite state will involve Russia and Russian forces due to the major disruption to the Russian economy since anti-Russian forces would likely target control of the pipelines for leverage. In fact it could easily be just that threat that Russia uses as an excuse to come to the aid of his puppet government.

If a full blown civil war starts it threatens the energy supply of half of Europe... which the EU states could then use as justification for getting involved.

This is the kind of event that has the capacity to cascade into very bad things for everyone.

Not another "red line in the sand" statement. Just what does he mean by "consequences"?

He'd have been better off just to stick with the original "get security forces out," or better yet, "Mr. Yanukovych, tear down these security forces!"

The Ukranians would be better off if he kept his pie hole shut. Him making threats only envouraged the government to shoot people.

Putins rebuilding the former Soviet Union.

Its Hot Air, don't expect good information. And its adpst, what do you expect?

Last post on Feb 20...Guess no one wanted to come back and have some crow.

How so? You'd think if he wanted to do that he would have spanked the Georgians in '08 (worse than he did anyway), and annexed Georgia.

It was just a funny in light of what everybody was saying.
