U.S. Plunges To 46th In World Press Freedom Index... Below Romania

He's doing all those things the Reps loved GDubya for doing, and still they give him s***. There's no pleasing some people.

I don't think repubs have a problem with Gitmo being open. They have a problem with the president blatantly going back on his word.

Very true. But that's the way when people are partisans before they are Americans.

The difference is that one lied about Gitmo and the other didn't It has nothing to d with partisanship.

What do you mean there Grant.

What is bull**** is this nationalistic arrogance going on in the US. It blinds you all from the real truth that media organisations like MSNBC and Fox News, Newscorp and other media empires are a large part of the problem. Add to that the US government treatment of journalists and sources and your ranking is well deserved. There is nothing "free" about the US media landscape.. they are utterly biased and blind to anything happening outside the US.

This is increasingly irrelevant with the prevalence of the internet. The more important aspect of press freedom is the ability to gather information for public consumption and the ability to freely express opinions without fear of legal retribution. Of those two, I think the first is becoming increasingly difficult in America and the second is still in a very good place. We don't have highly interpretive laws about hate speech, for instance, while many countries do.

That circular argument is one no partisan will win.
