'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is too

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

Again, you claim "the left" as a whole did this which IS BS. If your bar is set so low, then I guess using YOUR logic, you are represented by Beck and the others.

I personally am not driven by what anyone says and noone represents me, yet you claim "the left" as a whole which is BS.

What's this YOUR logic business? I simply offered what is indisputably the truth and documented it. I can offer more documentation if it's required. There's tons of it. If the shoe doesn't fit you, then fine. Why would you argue if it doesn't? If you don't think Thomas is an Uncle Tom, then good for you. Many on the left do, as I can easily show. When confronted by the reality much of the left espouses, many object - except when it comes to elections and the possibility that additional personal smears will work their magic. Again, my post was directed toward a comment I can easily dismiss as garbage. I think you're a little too offended.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

It's funny. My husband is black. I am white. When we lived in Baltimore we got more racist comments from blacks the whites. He would constantly get snide comments from black women when we went out to clubs. Some of his co-workers and friends had a real problem with him being with a white woman. Said he was a sell out. I had more then a few black women tell me I was stealing their men, that i should stick with my own kind. The white people really didn't give a crap one way or another. Now that we live in the country where it's 99% white we get a few nasty looks from some of the old timers who will never accept inter-racial marriages, but for the most part he and I are accepted as just an average married couple. Race isn't an issue. I was surprised by this. My husband wasn't.

Curiously it seem whites are the least "racist," and I would put Latinos as the next least.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

No doubt, but crticism of Obama isn't racist. It's not racist to call The Affordable Care Act, "Obamacare".

I'm sure that some people who crticized Bush were racists, but most weren't.

I Agree with you there.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

Thanks for posting that, because now we know that it isn't racist to crticize Obama.
It very likely is indeed if you can't articulate any other actual reason for it. Racism is quite properly and reasonably seen as the default explanation for a great deal of what is said by critics about Obama. The absence of any credible alternative explanation makes that so.

Really?

A. PPACA is more than 2,000 pages long. No one knows what's in it.
B. PPACA doesn't do anything to lower healthcare costs.

Is the contradiction here apparent enough or does it need to be spelled out?

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told a group of college students on Tuesday that race and gender relations are worse now than when he was a kid.

Speaking at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida, Thomas, the second black justice to serve on the court, lamented what he considers a society that is more 'conscious' of racial differences than it was when he grew up in segregated Georgia in the days before — and during — the civil rights era.

The conservative justice who, among other things, has written opinions supporting limits on Affirmative Action, added that 'the worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia.'

'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is too sensitive about race says Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.

My comment.

A racist is someone who looks at people and events thru racial eyes. So-called "liberals" who analyze every word, event and statement in racial context are the worst racists in the country at this time. Most racist messages on this forum are posted by those who identity their lean as liberal or progressive, although not exclusively.

For example many self defined liberals and progressives foremost definite President Obama as "the black president," - that his foremost definition to THEM is his race. Therefore, since that is what is MOST important to them they assume is most important to everyone else. Therefore, those who oppose his actions and policies must be because of Obama's race - because they assume everyone shares their racial-measuring of people.

If it wasn't for Justice Thomas' race, he wouldn't have been appointed. At least not when he was. President Bush (the first) was under pressure to replace Thurgood Marshall with another black face. So he picked the most qualified black conservative judge. It's not a coincidence that he replaced Marshall.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

To sum up Clarence Thomas, he has a very high self-approval rating, some of which has been earned and some not. He is an often careless jurist, one who falls under the sway of activists and allows his personal biases to color his legal thinking. He would be ranked by most in the bottom half of all USSC justices, but -- through no fault of his own -- he does stand out in being so consistently used as part of right-wing tokenism.

Huh? Thomas had 16 months experience as a judge at any level when he was nominated to the high court. He was indeed so much as considered only because he was black. There were many better qualified black judges who would have brought none of Thomas's heavy baggage to the table. But none of them was the lap-dog conservative that the right wanted to see installed in the place of Thurgood Marshall.

You mean there were many black lap dogs for Democrats to pick from.

OK, maybe there were other qualified black judges, but the point remains that he was largely a "quota" pick.

No doubt there were many qualified liberal black judges, but there really wasn't any chance that Bush was going to choose one of them. He got picked partially because they wanted to replace the black guy with another black guy. So they found a Conservative black guy.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

That voids 90% of the accusations of racism the Libbos have been crying about for the past 30 odd years.

Thanks for posting that, because now we know that it isn't racist to crticize Obama.

Nobody said it was.

So, basically you're saying that Thomas is a token nigger?

He didn't call him a nigger. he said he was appointed based on identity politics. Something Ive seen you mention in relation to numerous candidates and appointments in the past. So your outrage over the possibility being raised here is rather strange and likely wholly political.

Though with that said, I'm sure Rocket would react in a similar fashion if you suggested the same about a liberal individual (reducing it to racism).

when were partisan politics reasonable?

It's what he meant, basically. You've seen the foaming at the mouth and condemnations of racism that have come from Libbos when the same was suggested of Obama.

I'm hitting the ball back into his court, so he can get a taste of his own medicine.

Re: 'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is

I agree there is a difference between racism and racialism, but democrats are more racist as a whole. They are the ones that cannot be colorblind, and insist on quota systems. The use of a quota system for example implies that blacks cannot compete on an equal playing field, and that makes it a racist idea.

And while the second half of your state isn't true let's talk about colorblind society. What does it mean. It means that you erase racial and cultural distinctiveness. Which is a form of racism. It devalues what that culture might add to the situation. As for people noticing race reducing the person to their race that is true of some but not most. We saw that clearly among the Democrats when they had a real fight for the nomination and then rallied around Obama because we valued what he stood for, while being proud that he was the first black man to be elected. You see we can be complex.

We see racism when Republicans, including party officials, make racist comments, create art that has Obama as a monkey, a witchdoctor and other typical racist stereotypes. When they question his American standing, even suggesting he is influenced by colonialism of Kenya.

The entire argument is ridiculous and if Justice Thomas seems to think the pre-civil rights era was better for him I would ask about how those northern liberals who pushed the affirmative action that he took advantage of several times to get to where he is. I guess biting the hand that feeds you is a right wing value.

We had racism defined for us earlier in this thread and none of that falls under that definition.

I'm not reducing it to racial politics (it certainly wasn't racism), but it's hard to deny that Bush was under pressure to nominate another African-American to replace Marshall.

So Thomas was selected because NO other judge had his credentials? I know that's what Bush said, but even you aren't that naive. Or are you?

I don't have the final list that he was picking from to look at everyone's qualifications, but I find it hard to believe that no other judge regardless of race could match them.

Right, it only falls under that definition when a Democrat does it.

Making racist comments isn't racist....God, that ranks up there.
