Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu[W:250]

Do black Americans have some special claim on fried chicken or watermelons ?

Are whites forbidden to eat fried chicken and watermelon during the month of February ?

Why do Mexican demand tacos on May 5th ?

If you eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patricks Day, does that mean you're anti Irish and xenophobic ?

If you drink beer during the month of October does that mean you're a neo-nazi ?

This thread has made me hungry. If I weren't so far from a hood, I would drive to the nearest Chuches Fried Chicken and get a bucket the thighs and legs.

I an't going to take no chances. Not going to drive sixty miles to the hood and be asked at the counter if I'm a racist for ordering fried chicken during Black Heritage Month.

BTW: Where did they find the watermelons ? They aren't in season.

Ohhh I like Church's spicy chicken. Had it the other night. Do know why they have absolutely nothing pork in there?

I never thought about it before. Maybe the founder was a Black Muslim ???

If you remember, Churches were originally only found in black neighborhoods.

I rate Churches #1. after Popeye's. KFC is too greasy.

I wonder what was really behind replacing Col. Sanders with KFC ? Probably because he looked like a plantation owner.

The country has gotten to PC.

They weren't founded by a black muslim but a Muslim investment firm owned them at one time.

That explains it.

But I know a some blacks who aren't Muslims who won't eat pork. But most blacks I know love pork.

I rarely eat ham but I like bacon.

I went wild boar hunting once in Monterey County. Shot a big boar. The worst game I ever ate. It tasted like garlic. I was told that the boar was living off of garlic that was being grown in the fields.

But dig a pit and throw a pig or wild boar on top of hot coals and bury it and come back the next day uncover it and feast down. Excellent.

Huh, that's so weird. Are you sure the black people who don't like pork are really black?

We get lots of them around here, I believe they are from Chile.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

Kinda stupid, but I for one would have enjoyed that meal.

Me too, and I'm a white guy. I think I'd be OK with it as long as I wasn't required to have my ass hanging out of my pants or made to knock up some girl with no intention of raising the kid. Cuz that would just be too much.

Maybe some Champipple to drink...

Where's Fred Sandford when you need him.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

I'm gratified someone recognized this.

I miss watching Redd Foxx play the part of Fred Sandford. I even like watching the show while eating fried chicken.

During Black History Month, no less. Have you no shame?

Not trying to be funny, but what is the primary dishes of White America?

Luby's restaurant.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

Chuckles. I agree that soul food has evolved, but you can't deny that 90% of the menu items originated from the slavery time. My mom still cook chittlings( can't stand that nasty ****), she still cook hog mogs, pig feet, hog head cheese, greens, etc. True we enjoy fried chicken but so do most Americans.

We love BBQ as well. Is BBQ a black cultural cuisine?

I believe here in the South, BBQ transcends all racial boundaries. Everyone down here loves BBQ.

Same with Chinese food.

My neighborhood used to have lots of BBQ joints but they've been replaced by taco joints. One on every corner.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

A byproduct of racialism. Y'all wanted it, y'all got it.

These clowns shoulda served gumbo, but it just goes to show that education and intelligence aren't the same thing.

Very very interesting. I don't remember Barak or Michelle being to upset when the liberal elite Washington, D.C., school where the President's daughters are students were served Japanese food for lunch in celebration of Pearl Harbor Day.

Obama Daughters' School Features Japanese-Inspired Lunch Menu on Pearl Harbor Day

I don't remember the Obamas having anything to say about this either. You're just trying to make this about Obama when it isn't.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

Because we as a society are a branch and offshoot of European culture ... Also, the European academic tradition is probably more expansive and self-critical than any other perspective out there. Most others, if not all, fully indulge in a self-centric narrative

So every other culture has a self-centric narrative. Except for the Eurpoean culture, which is justifiably Euro-centric.

Do you even read what you post?

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

George Washington carver: the token black of american history classes. In any other context, I doubt you would here much about the guy in a general history class.

Personally,I always thought the independence struggle and political development of Haiti and Liberia; greater focus on Frederick Douglas; covering Ralph Ellison, W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey or the the Emmett Till case would all be better contributions to one's education on black america than the peanut guy

Yes, but if you MUST have a meal themed around black history (which, again, WTF?), those guys had a much smaller impact on food.

Yes, but you seem to lack the ability to understand basic words like "fully" and "self-critical". For example, I can acknowledge and challenge my euro-centric perspective, but I can not escape it. If I was to *fully* indulge in it though, I would see no value in acknowledging the subjective nature of my view point, and never open it up to challenges from alternative analysis and viewpoints.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

They should have a Holocaust Remembrance Day where kids are made to eat cockroaches and worms. Oh Rosh Hashanah, students should be fed matzo ball soup with googly eyes on it to symbolize the children it's made out of. On Native American day, we should eat stuffed turkey and pumpkin pie to reminisce on that one time Europeans people were nice to the Native Americans. Then, on St. Patrick's, black people should show to Irish homes with bags of freshly made potato salad. On 5 de Mayo, Mexican kids should be asked to prepare a nice plate of tacos made with crepes and fois gras. On Canada Day, a beaver should be chased through the streets of New York and beaten to a pulp, then seasoned with maple syrup and free healthcare.

In the Lifetime movie "Road to Christmas", photographer Claire (Jennifer Grey) is talking with her beautiful black model friend N'naa (Ingrid Hart). The gist of the conversation is that N'naa comments on Claire's Italian fiancé. Claire's comment was something to the effect of "Saying that Italian men are womanizers is like me saying that because you are black you must like watermelon." N'naa's response was: "I DO like watermelon. It's one of the few things I can eat."

That, in my opinion, is the importance that should be put on this whole ridiculous political correctness nonsense. By looking for racist connotations in everything or demanding that they have to exist in something as innocuous (and good) as fried chicken and watermelon is straining at gnats to keep racism alive and well and at the forefront of everything.
