The scarf is a Hamas scarf. Hamas is a designated terrorist group according to the US State Department. It has held that status since 1997.

The text on the scarf that the president’s brother is wearing in the 2010 photo reads, “‘Jerusalem is ours – WE ARE COMING!’” It also includes a map of Palestine that reads “From the river to the sea!”

Well if you subscribe to the idea that Israel is a sacred cow that is beyond reproach and to be supported regardless of their actions and can't figure out why anyone would want to pick a fight with them, and you subscribe to the idea that Obama is a closet Muslim who rubs shoulders with terrorists and hates Israel, then this photo will probably blow your skirt up.

I have a cousin who is rabidly anti-Muslim, rabidly pro-Israeli, and he isn't even Jewish. He believes that the U.S. should support Israel because they are God's chosen people and he views the U.S. as a "Christian" nation with a duty to back the Jews. He would probably be considered just as "radical" as the President's brother. He was at my mothers funeral, has been to my house for dinner several times, hell we practically grew up one block from each other and were best friends as children. I don't agree with him. His ideology and his views are not mine. And yet I don't disassociate with him because he is family. He isn't killing anyone. Yet he supports Israel and believes that the Palestinians are the architects of their own fate. I tolerate his opinion. What does this actually say about me? Does my continued association with him mean I agree with him? I support him? I secretly believe as he does? No. It means he's my family and I love him despite his warped (in my opinion) viewpoint.

I have a brother whom I think is an embarrassment however, thankfully, people who know me don't confuse me for my brother or my brother for me.

As I've said before, there are so many things to be critical of Obama in his terms in office - the peripheral nonsense just makes real, serious, criticism seem less powerful.
