Just some basic references. I got a 1.5% increase in my SSR, but my food bills have increased close to 50% since 2007. I know also that SNAP has been cut by 20% this year, because one of my friends told me his has dropped that amount and everybody else on SNAP. I guess I could go along with the unemployment not being extended, but the food seems extreme. The military didn't get sequestered this year. They should have.

The Military provides useful functions. what do people living off the dole provide to us tax payers?

What do you provide?

I think he has retired, and largely lives off of his savings and capital income.

As for the military - we got our pension cost of living adjustments cut. Let me know when the rest of you are willing to pony up in a similar manner and switch Social Security to a chained CPI.

The Military protects your investments and uses the people living off the dole to provide your cannon fodder. They don't own anything that needs protection. Pay your fair share, proportionately.

stop subsidizing dependency. That only increases it which is what those who gain office by pandering to dependency wants

You need to post that in the conspiracy section

It had to happen eventually.

This is where all the crap about "so many children in America are food-insecure", etc. They just count the number of kids in households that use EBT cards. In reality, if you sign up for other government programs, they offer to sign you up for SNAP; and the administration has deliberately expanded eligibility and relaxed any kind of enforcement. Maximize the number of folks on the system, maximize the electoral effect of claiming that Republicans are meanies for wanting to take away your free stuff.

There are people who really require this kind of help. That number is nowhere near 20% of the populace. Those folks are swamping the system and thus making it harder for us to be able to support those who actually need it.

You need to post that in the conspiracy section

Conspiracy mumbo jumbo is the forte of the ignorant who are unable to counter an objective statement.

there was nothing objective in your silly statement.

The very least government can and should do in a civilized country is provide food for those that need it. Of course there's some that take advantage, however the good outweighs the bad here. People get in binds, sh@t happens and they need food. The local church or donation food pantry doesn't cut it much of the time. Anyone who thinks that churchs and private donations are enough to feed those in need need to stop reading Ayn Rand bull****e.

how is someone that makes 130% of the poverty level able to qualify for snap?

Eligibility | Food and Nutrition Service

SNAP is meant for people with a real need. not for people that has a decent job and can afford food.
a single person can live very well on 25k a year or less. I know I did it.

if you have a family I hope that you planned that out and made sure that you could support your family. I do. I am the only one that works in my family. I don't get free hand outs.

I give a rats ass about the link. The people that I personally know that are on SNAP are an unemployed carpenter, single working Father, elderly men and a disabled Woman. Not everyone who needs a meal is a lazy hustling skumbag.

of course you give a rats ass about the link because if you make 130% above the poverty lvl
which for a family of 4 is 2552 a month which is about 30k a year then sure come on down.
no one said every person that is a strawman argument or an appeal to emotion take your pick.

the fact is there are more people on food stamps. that requires other people to pay for it. It is taking away from those that really need the program.

PS anecdotal evidence is not evidence.

SNAP (Food Stamps): Facts, Myths and Realities

I'd rather have my tax dollars go into the mouth of some individual who might be hungry any day instead of bailing out some ****head low-life Wallstreet big-wig.

Not only that but SNAP also helps local businesses because people are purchasing food similar to unemployment benefits as people continue to spend which strengthens our economic recovery.

News flash....people will buy food even if the grubbynut liberals don't buy their votes with hand outs. If anything snap pays for the latest smart phone, video game and iTunes. Food will be bought those items don't have to be.

Yeah sure, we shut the engines off on our ships in mid-ocean and send everyone home. We close our air bases and shut down NORAD. WTF are you talking about? The Constitution promises a common defense, it doesn't promise everyone food. That's something you're expected to get yourself. And if all else fails you have family and lots of charities and churches that will help you. The Constitution never promised every stupid, lazy, fat **** three squares a day.

I have a better idea, take the money out of that tight ass wallet of yours, and put that in someone's mouth that is hungry. The rest of us are tired of goof-offs and unmotivated users abusing the forced charity that goes on in this country. I give plenty to charity every year to help others on my own.
