Player in NJ bridge scandal will talk for immunity

Ooof. I didn't see this coming. I thought it might happen if there were charges levied or a threat of charges levied THEN deals would be struck. But before that?... I'm surprised.

What usually gets them....it's not the act it's the cover up

I've always liked Christie as a straight-shooter, who gave the appearance of being the people's governor and didn't give a lick or a spit about partisan politics. If he's proven to have been involved in this as political retribution, I will be sad... but will shed no tears. Anyone involved in this mess, which contributed to at least one death, deserves to be prosecuted.

Maybe we should prosecute the auto industry for not integrating air bags a year earlier, and maybe saving a life. Maybe we should prosecute the NHTSA for not requiring them earlier, and causing a death. Maybe there's a million other things that resulted in a death if only..... A death on the bridge was certainly not intended, and could have happened without a traffic jam.

Have you already lost faith in Christie, with nothing having been proven yet? I never really cared for him, actually.

*sigh* Don't be silly, hon. All kinds of unforeseen things can contribute to injury/death for all kinds of reasons. Thing is, this wasn't unforeseen. It was a deliberate manipulation for no legitimate reason (at least, none that anyone has come up with yet) that was clearly arranged by Christie's staff and political appointees, with the desired effect of snarling traffic, making kids late to school, making others late for work, and generally causing grief to the drivers of Fort Lee. Those who caused this knew, or should have known, that it would also affect emergency traffic, and frankly they're damned lucky that the only known casualty (as noted in the EMT report during the incident, with no political overtones whatsoever) was a very sick, elderly woman who, it could be argued, would likely have died regardless of traffic patterns.

BTW, I used to work for a major SoCal city. To close lanes on a major thoroughfare without prior notice to city hall, public works, and emergency services is utterly unknown, and unacceptable by any public service standard.

Given up on him? Not at all. I'm seriously hoping that there is not a shred of evidence to tie him to knowledge of this absurd, frat-boy prank and the political retaliation the emails imply. However, it happened under his watch. Even if he was not involved, he clearly had no idea what was going on outside of his own office door... which is never good. I'm a wait-and-see kind of gal. I hope he weathers this storm because he deserves to, but time will tell... and if evidence proves he was in on it, I hope he is prosecuted along with his staff.
