NSA Fallout - Canada selling itself as haven for US tech giants

What safeguards can Canada offer to ensure its not a trick? If it can be demonstrated that PI, will be more secure there, I'd go with the company.

What does the NSA use courts for? Those are only after the fact institutions they use to try to claim that their illegal spying and data collection techniques are legal.

Yes that's exactly what they are. Still puzzled that that's debatable.

I could be wrong, but I believe the NSA still needs your FISA court approval for its data mining activities - that's why companies like Google comply.

I'm pretty sure that's not something that's public knowledge but the basis of discussions between the Canadian government and the corporations involved.

Canada no more harbors terrorists than the US does. Do we have terrorists here? - definitely. Are they given sanctuary here? - what, are you Hillary Clinton now?

What, Did Hillary Clinton accuse you all of that?

But the US does harbour terrorists!

Yeah, so pretty much no way to verify, huh? I mean one could be jumping into the frying pan.

Back on 9/11 she falsely claimed that the terrorist pilots got into the US through Canada.

How can you possibly mistake Napolitano and McCain for Clinton?

Just days after Janet Napolitano, the U.S. homeland security secretary, sparked a diplomatic kerfuffle by suggesting the terrorists took a Canadian route to the U.S. eight years ago, McCain defended her by saying that, in fact, the former Arizona governor was correct.
"Well, some of the 9-11 hijackers did come through Canada, as you know," McCain, last year's Republican presidential candidate, said on Fox News on Friday.

The Arizona senator's remarks prompted the Canadian embassy to immediately reissue remarks made earlier this week by Ambassador Michael Wilson, who reminded Americans once again that no 9-11 perpetrators came to the U.S. via Canada.

LOL!

No, don't for a second think that I condone the faulty reasoning that has led this nation to where we are.

All I'm saying is, is it not clear that our government could give two ****s about the laws of other nations? I mean, I thought it was clear...but I guess it's possible others don't.

To be less glib for moment, I think corporations with a conscience (all three of them) would leap at the chance to move operations over the border in the name of protecting the rights of their customers.

You really have to say that again to let it sink in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some companies flee our oppressive government and head to Canada. The NSA needs to take a chill pill.

Just as we in NV take businesses out of CA. Actions have consequences. Someone loses and someone wins.

How are Canadian taxes in comparison with US taxes? Real question.
You really believe it'll do them any good? They're safer here, out of country they are open to any kind of spying the NSA wants. They have acres of the most powerful computers in the world, there is no where to hide.

If Canada had an open immigration policy, the US would be empty.

I can think of several things that could mean to me. Which one are you thinking?

Oh, it's clear.

That's more likely the truth. Which is the more reason to knock the legs out from under the NSA's domestic spying apparatus.

I suspect more did too. All to say that it's silly to point the finger solely at Clinton.

Hey! I wasn't the finger pointer in this one. At this point, what difference does it make.

Sorry, I didn't mean to direct that comment towards you. More towards the article that CanadaJohn posted.

You think the NSA can't get that ****? They'll get it.

Unless we develop new hardware without backdoors, stronger encryptions and no remote access to location services or cameras/mics the NSA will forever be our big brother.

Amber Lyons said outside of this country, no one will talk to a journalist if they have an iPhone or any device without a removable battery. They refuse to be spied on.
