Gates - Obama Fed Propaganda

Gates’ tell-all rattles White House, Congress – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

There is an interesting quote from him in the middle of this.

"
According to the New York Times account, Gates writes, "[Obama] eventually lost faith in the troop increase he ordered in Afghanistan, his doubts fed by top White House civilian advisers opposed to the strategy, who continually brought him negative news reports suggesting it was failing."

So it looks like bias in the media doesn't just come to us but goes to the loser in charge too.

LOL Gates is an idiot. Those aides were telling the truth! Who wants to volunteer to be the LAST American to be killed in that hole? Obama knows that all we need is drones to kill off the Taliban leaders.

Has Obama just once used the words of "winning" or "victory" when referring to Afghanistan ? NOT ###### ONCE !

Ah the good old "Argument By Verbiage" tactic. "Obama didn't use one particular word I want him to!"

You're lucky it didn't set something off.

Cool, thanks. Do you know what a 1/4 twain is?

Gates can whine and moan all he likes but the reality is that the military leadership, including Gates, is incompetent. Their immediate response to the attacks on 9/11 would have made us the laughing stock of the global community if the joke wasn't so disturbingly bad. The invasion and occupation of Iraq was a disaster. Afghanistan has been nothing but a waste of lives and resources with nothing to show for it. Why should anyone who has been paying attention throw a ticker tape parade knowing that they got us involved in two wars they didn't know then or now how to effectively wage or end? In terms of his boo-hooing about the level of oversight and "meddling"; the man is old enough to remember that if you leave the military alone for five minutes it will sell weapons to Iran to subsidize a coup d'etat in Nicaragua without authorization.

74% of U.S. Afghan Casualties Came After Obama Ordered Troops Increased and issued politically correct rules of engagement that favored the Talibam and caused our troops to bleed and die.

So you approved of President G.W. Bush's and Rumsfeld's Afghanistan policy of having only a small footprint in Afganistan ?

I also kind of went along with that policy.

Ah yes, the troop increase that Gates et. al were stomping their feet to have authorized. Just further evidence that the military leadership has no idea what its doing.

Robert Gates is a civilian not a military leader. He also had a long career as a yes man working for both Republican and Democrat administrations.

Leon Panetta is also a Democrat and has a long track record as a yes man. He also has hinted on Obama being incompetent.

Obama has already purged 197 high ranking military officers and replaced them with politically correct pantywaist yes men who couldn't fight their way into whore house.

Hate to disappoint you, but the entirety of the military including the Secretary of Defense serves at the pleasure of the President.

Exactly. Gates is a yes man.

That depends on what you consider to be a "yes" man. Gates and others like him pushed for a mission which had no chance of success because they didn't know how to run it. The worst you can say about Obama in this case is that he allowed himself to be persuaded to do something his gut told him was not a good idea by a man (Gates) and the rest of the military leadership which doesn't know how to wage a war.

About the fairest assessment I've seen yet. It would appear Gates has unwittingly implicated himself and the Pentagon. I'd like to see a pundit point that out on FOX And Friends.

Well why doesn't Obama just instruct the media to tell it his way? I mean, since they're just his propaganda arm and what not...

They don't already? You must be a Fox watcher.

We will as dictated, signed and sealed by the pig Obama be there for at least 10 more years. TEN MORE years!!

The statement was made that "modest help" at the beginning would have given the opposition what they needed. I proved that that modest help was there.

Okay. I suppose a definition of modest would clear things up, but a modest effort to fly to the moon would not be satisfied with the supply of an airplane if the moon is the stated objective.

Well again, denied overt support as the US was, I suppose that help was as extensive as it could be covertly. But I didn't coin the phrase "modest help" and he who did, didn't define what it meant to him, initially. It should also be remembered that Russia was doing their fair share to counter any US efforts. And I should also point out that we are inviting a moderators warning for veering so far from topic. There is other threads that have discussed this in depth.

Sorry about coming to this late if someone already mentioned it, but how about if the same kind of active support was given to Syrian rebels that our President gave to Libyan & Egyptian rebels ... I'm not endorsing either one but it does make you wonder ...
(a) why he didn't, and
(b) if the nature of the results were anticipated and thus shaped his actions in all scenarios.

On this, I can't blame the President. I expected that there would be limits on what the surge could accomplish so long as the U.S. maintained a Karzai-centric strategy. Unfortuntely, it did. IMO, the muddled outcome to date is not surprising. Mr. Karzai has been and remains a big part of the problem with his corruption, cronyism, and provincialism.

I think the modest help referred to would include those items which are an effective counter to the force the rebels faced. Modest in this case would refer to an amount of assistance and not the nature of it. Were we to offer assistance to the rebels similar in kind to that the Russians have supplied Assad with, it would include some of the most sophisticated weapons in our arsenal. We did have an opportunity to offer meaningful but modest assistance of such a nature to the rebels before the extremist element compromised their effort, but we let it pass. That was a mistake.

do you ever actually address what is being discussed?

Do you? I'm not the topic of the thread either.

Isn't it about Obama getting his propaganda from the media? But you guys keep telling us that the media is his propaganda. So which is it?

I can only blame him for surrounding himself with people that would hide the facts and feed is propoganda.

......and the hearts and minds of the people? The idiot is not Gates it is rather, the dope smoking pig in the White House that never served his country.....whichever country he was born in.

There is no way to force the Afghans to like us. You really want us to "kill them all" which is even more ludicrous.
