Satanists Unveil 7-Foot Baphomet Statue For Oklahoma State Capitol

If I spoke for everyone, I would charge them. Just making observations.

I'm atheist and I believe the suppression of metaphysical expression is low class and authoritarian. Don't speak for me, thanks.

Indoctrinated into what?
Atheism is disbelief of theism. There is no doctrine to follow. Very asinine thing for you to state.

As for intolerance, atheists are humans like everyone else. There is no atheist doctrine that says we have to be nice.

It's not always just a simple lack of belief. To say, "there is no God" is an affirmative statement of belief. And yeah, atheists are human and can be just as judgmental and intolerant as those they decry. I'm glad you recognize that, not all atheists do.

I'm not surpressing anything. I bet you're one of those internet buttheads I mentioned.

I'm so embarrassed!

That add asking for a model looked innocent enough, and man, that hundred bucks came in handy, but I had no idea!! :3oops:

I bet I am. You'd think I'd win some kind of major award.

Is the "t" in your username silent, by any chance? I know Eco. He often defends Christians to those who only want to ridicule religious beliefs.

They seem to be ok with what Jesus says - mostly. They mostly don't know ALL he said or they'd probably change their tune. Most online activist atheists spout the same dogma - the bible is all fiction, faith and reason are mutually exclusive, science itself is an authority. etc etc. They have a "play" button in their brain with trite atheist statements and no matter the specific topic they just hit "play". I don't know any Satanists but i wouldn't be surprised if they were very different.

ah do you know the definition of dogma? Because if you did, you would know it makes no sense to apply to an atheist.
Dogma is a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true.

Man you have some interesting conceptions of atheism. Atheism is just disbelief.
as for the rest, that requires another thread.

Whatever, dude.

I don't understand the purpose of this statue but if it's designed to offend Christians they're more likely to just ignore it. It seems rather juvenile.

Having a religious experience is simialr to a sexual experience in the sense that it really difficult to explain to virgins. In this case the atheists are the virgins.

LOL That's a good one. Having a psychotic episode is hard to explain to sane people too.

Dogma doesn't have to be laid down by an authority. But it is authoratative. Is presented as incontrovertibly true without proof.

a belief or set of beliefs that is accepted by the members of a group without being questioned or doubted

Dogma - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

I separate atheists into two camps, the "normal" ones and the evangelical ones. Evangelical atheists share many of the same attributes that you see in extremist Xtians and Muslims. Different side of the crazy coin.

Holy smoke. A thread about a satanist statue turns into a bash discussion of atheists? On what planet is the worship of satan as a god relevant to people who don't believe that god(s) exist in the first place??

Actually it really is just disbelief.
There is nothing to stop someone who is atheist to take it to the 'next level' and declare 'there are no gods'. And you would be right, it is a truth statement about about one of the competing claims regarding the existence of gods.
I don't think most atheists will go there, not any more. Atheists don't need to go there. Whether they disbelieve theistic claims or there are actually no gods it amounts to the same thing for atheists.

I think we really need a different word to describe the people that make an affirmative statement of belief that gods don't exist. Anti-theist? Non theist? Otherwise you have the same word designating 2 separate stances.

Comparative religions. I tried to tie it together with my watching-basketball post. There's obviously intercepting attributes. Many atheists have more baggage then what a disbelief in something would carry. Some aren't even even truly atheists - they're simply anti-deist or anti-Xtian. As are Satanists.

What the hell? I'm very disappointed. The statue is not nearly as Heavy Metal :rock as I hoped. I was thinking it would be something like a big nasty goat devil ravaging a hot naked virgin chick on a sacrificing altar. What the hell kind of satanists are these? Tell them to take their lame ass statue and GTFO.

Just some inaccurate statements were made and needed to be corrected.
Atheists just need to put a blank placard at the capitol.
The religious right are not thinking things through. Thankfully the founding fathers weren't just a bunch homogenous christians otherwise the US would have been a theocracy from the beginning. Imagine if they had all been puritans?

Maybe they were just goth or emo kids.

could you define anti-deist?

either someone believes the theistic claim or they don't. It is like pregnancy: either you are or you are not, there is no middle ground.

Atheists content with their non belief don't have any reason to flame the religious and they don't. For someone to have contempt for the religious, though, there has to be a "true" statement (in their mind) such that failing to acknowledge that "truth" makes someone just delusional, wrong, stupid, ect. That "true" statement rallying point is, "There is no God" and that is an affirmative statement.

That's fair and I have used anti-theist before. Unfortunately, unless we all agree with doing that, it won't actually change anything.

Satanists are Xtians in that they believe in Christ but don't like Xtianity. Atheists like Jesus but don't like Xtians. I would guess that Atheists hate Xtians more than Satanists. Atheists seem to be more dogmatic but Satanists but both Atheists and Satanists tend to be Internet buttheads.

Now I am completely confused.

I've ran into a few people who believed in God but hated his will, permissive will or lack of action. Like the Satanists, they're few in number but they're out there.

Then there are some who can only seem to come up with how the Xtian god is such a dick and thats why they don't believe in him or any other gods. They don't usually have a strong grasp on their arguments or the topic itself but they too are out there.

Then let us agree on that. Eventually the usage will become common and the confusion will disappear.
