Walmart Recalls Donkey Meat In China Because It Contained Fox

I had a family of fox (3) in my back yard till a couple of years ago when the coyote took over, I thought the coyote got the fox, maybe it was the Chinese?

The hamburger meat sold at Walmart here in the U.S. contains meat from Canada, U.S. and Mexico (last time I checked). Are we sure it is what it says it is? My guess is that, as long as we seek quantity over quality, ...t happens.

I wonder how many unproductive Chinese workers were also dumped into the vat?

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, has recalled donkey meat sold at some outlets in China after tests showed the product contained the DNA of other animals, the U.S. company said.

Wal-Mart will reimburse customers who bought the tainted "Five Spice" donkey meat and is helping local food and industry agencies in eastern Shandong province investigate its Chinese supplier, it said late on Wednesday in official posts on China's Twitter-like Weibo. The Shandong Food and Drug Administration earlier said the product contained fox meat.

The scandal could dent Wal-Mart's reputation for quality in China's $1 trillion food and grocery market where it plans to open 110 new stores in the next few years. China is the largest grocery market in the world and is set to grow to $1.5 trillion by 2016, according to the Institute of Grocery Distribution.

Sounds like they toss any animal they can get their hands on into the meat grinder.

Donkey meat huh? Can't say I ever had any, but I guess if it is fried or BBQ'd it probably would taste like chicken.

If that was how it originated then, then it would still be common to get a burrito filled with donkey meat. I have never heard of this or known anyone in Mexico or the US to eat donkey meat or that the name originated like that. Also, they would have just called it a taco de burro. It wouldn't make sense to call a tortilla filled with meat a "little burro"

They still eat dogs on many Indian reservations.

Most Mexican food as we know it as today is really Tex-Mex. It's been Americanized.

Before the Europeans arrived there were no beef, pork, chicken or cheese in Mexico. The Mexican diet consisted of maze (corn) beans, squash and peppers. In 1860 there was still only one dairy in the entire country of Mexico. It was owned by a German immigrant who was the only source for cheese.

Hogs were raised for only one purpose in Mexico, lard. Mexicans didn't start eating pork until the late 1800's. Lard was used for only two things, cooking and for greasing the hair. That's where the term greaser comes from.

Chili con carne was created by a German immigrant in Texas during the 1800's..

If you ate a Jack in the Box taco during the late 70's or early 80's, the meat had kangaroo meat in it.

Burro meat isn't bad. Most Americans can't tell the difference between beef and horse meat.

Have you ever drove my a wind farm and noticed all of those Tyson chicken trucks ?

I used to eat at JinBox all the time in the 80's, I wondered about the hopping thing...

I suppose anyone who ever ate one of Jacks tacos during the 70's or first half of the 80's can claim they have eaten kangaroo meat.

Back then Jack in the Box use to get their taco filler meat from Australia. Unknown to them at the time the Aussies were mixing kangaroo meat into the ground beef.

Jack's tacos back then were pretty good.

It seems to me that a lot of people determine their acceptance of eating animals based on how cute that animal is. I've got some facebook acquaintances who constantly spam links about how terrible it is that people are killing and eating horses, and then they'll turn around and post a picture of themselves eating a burger at a backyard cookout.

There certainly is truth to what you said. I guess it's what we grow up accustomed to. As Lewis and Clark led the Corp of Descovery west they continued to encounter new game, game that those Virginia boys had never seen or tasted. Elk, prong horn, buffalo and mule deer. But they recorded in their journals that their second favorite was the beaver tail, a gelatinous cartilage like piece of meat. And their favorite, was dog. Yep introduced to them by one of the Indian tribes they encountered.
