Feds charge white man with hate crime in first ‘knockout’ prosecution

Did Texas charge him with a federal crime? Not possible (obviously).

Of course. BUt, did Texas charge him at all? And, if so, was it a felony on par with a serious hate crime?

Hate crimes are not serious. They are exactly the same thing as not a hate crime but the thinking of the attacker is not state approved.

THe DOJ usually gets involved when the state and local authorities are not doing their job regarding race related crimes. Did Texas charge the guy?

The way I understand the linear course of actions - he was arrested in Houston TX and charged in TX after police found he recorded the event on his cell phone. The DoJ took over the case and federally charged him with hate crimes. I have no information on the charges that were issued in TX. If you have that information I'd be interested to see it.

However, I disagree with your assertion that the Fed DoJ gets involved when the state is "not doing their job". That's BS. This DoJ gets involved when they feel they need to make a statement.

You also didn't weigh in regarding my legitimacy question.

Apparently, the dumbest man alive, showed the video to a police officer and he was arrested.

In all fairness it only took them so long to care about the knockout game because it took a while for the first white kid do it to a non-white person. ;)

Well they get so few opportunities to feel good about themselves

The Obama administration filed a federal hate-crimes charge Thursday against a man whom authorities accused of using the “knockout game” to target a black man, videotaping it, and then bragging about the assault to strangers.

The charge marks the first time the administration has taken action on a “knockout” case after the game became an Internet and media phenomenon.
It chose a case in which the person accused is white, even though most other cases reported in the news have involved black assailants

It looks like they have ample evidence to prosecute this guy and get a conviction.

Would you have let him go?

Let him go back to Texas to receive a guaranteed conviction of the non-thought crimes he committed?

You mean this thinking is unacceptable?
The exact same physical act is more illegal because your thinking is not state approved.

Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia, right?

Do you find hating and harming people because someone doesn't like their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation acceptable?

You didn't answer my question.

Would you have let him go?

He would not be let go.

Do you find hating and harming people because someone doesn't like their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation acceptable?

I find thought acceptable in all situations. Even situations that you find meanie pants.

Charging someone for "hate" crimes is imo stupid. It is too much like (and really is) charging someone for thinking a fantasy of them screwing Angelina Jolie as a rape crime. We should charge people with actual crimes that they have done and not have crimes for thinking.

I personally have no problem with someone hating someone else for whatever reason. I personally hate only one person....should I be charged extra because of it if I beat the crap out of that person?

You're a centrist? :lamo

Which should give you a clue as to how far out of touch the "very" conservatives are.

...as should the latest election results.

You certainly don't argue they were in touch in 2010?

Meaningless Koch Bros bought mid-term where "white rage" was exploited and seemed to develop groundswell support.

I wouldn't be too proud of 2010, if I were you. That election showed the worst of America.

BTW, like millions of Americans, I didn't vote in '10. Hell, I never vote midterms...few centrists do. Actually, I almost didn't vote in '12 either. And, I definitely won't vote in 14.

So if they are voted in it is meaningless, and if they are voted not in it is meaningful? Got in, makes total sense.

No. I just know midterms are partisan elections. If you were paying attention, you'd know this line of discussion is about me being a centrist and centrists' viewpoints versus the "very conservative" positions of apdst.

There are nonpartisan elections?

Centrist means away from both parties (logically), but in reality it simply means left of the right and right of the left which is still quite left.

I didn't ask about thought.

I asked if you find hating and harming people acceptable.

No one is concerned about what people think, until their hate-filled thoughts cause them to harm those that they hate.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate can not drive out hate; only love can do that." ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Hate is thought, and I find thought acceptable in all situations.

I do not support initial acts of aggression. If by harm you mean initial acts of aggression, I do not support harming others.

But they are concerned, that is why there is thought crime legislation.

Florida has been charging people with "thought crimes" for a long time.

Element of second-degree murder:

The act was motivated by hatred, ill will, spite, or evil intent.
