US Sending Troops to South Sudan

Anyone want to offer up a Objective opinion on why so many African Countries are so corrupt and mismanaged ?

Everything the industrialized world touches turns to sh**

Why the hell do we continue to have personnel in hell-holes such as that? All of this can be avoided by leaving the rest of the world to their own devices.

I'll tell you one thing, our financial woes would disappear if we stopped playing uncle war-bucks for all the forsaken places on this planet.

You mean like you did after WW1? How did that work out for you? Oh yeh the great depression, probation and then Pearl Harbour.

What is the full story then? They are sending in 150 troops? Not exactly an army. That seems to be a fair and measured response to what is going on. Sounds to be like a good enough number to secure the embassy and any Americans fleeing the violence. However, there will always be those who see a conspiracy or agenda behind every action the US takes.

Unless the bad guys come over the hill with 1,000 troops and a dozen heavy weapons (mortars, machine-guns, RPG's, etc.)

If we're going, let's go with a division sized combined arms unit, hunt down the rebels and kill every-last-one of the bastards.

Simple mistake I suppose, I'm sure you meant to say prohibition. Prohibition was the agenda of the progressives in America.

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was a direct result of America being involved ten thousand miles from it shores.

In fact the fuse for war between Japan and the United States, Great Britain and the Dutch was lit during the Theodore Roosevelt administration.

As soon as Japan was awarded the German territories in the Central Pacific (The Mandates) in 1919, Japan started drawing up it's plans for war against the USA and the UK and the United States adopted war Plan Orange in 1922 which were the plans used for fighting the war against Japan in the Pacific during WW ll.

I would agree, but I don't think that is the strategy. It's simply to protect the embassy and evacuate US citizens.

They won't even be a speed bump if the webels show up with 10 times more combat power.

Thats true, but I dont think either side wants the US involved. I don't see them attacking the embassy unless it was an open target.

As long as 150 soldiers sent to protect the embassy and help evacuate civilians doesn't become 150,000 sent to set the nation right and start a decade plus long nation building project, then I'm all for it.

I don't advocate an Libya-esque intervention in South Sudan, but if the UNSC establishes safe zones and a peacekeeping force, there's no issue with us contributing some volunteers to help keep the peace (I would hope that another African country would take the lead in peacekeeping, though).

Also, it's important to not let South Sudan become a failed state. The genocidal regime in (North) Sudan wins if we allow that to happen.
