'boycott a&e' facebook support page for phil robertson gets over 1m likes

As to a false assertion.... guess that is in the eye of the be-scolder.... :peace
:naughty
No, as our language and words have a specific structure and meaning behind them that makes it clear that he was not making a comparison between gays and perpetrators of bestiality.

Did the one million mom boycott of JC Penny over hiring a lesbian comic as a spokesperson have much affect?

How about the boycott Chik-fil-a over the anti-gay remarks by the owner?

No and NO

Not even close to this backlash.

A&E takes it in the shorts:

The overnight ratings are in for Duck Dynasty. One week ago, DD topped all of cable’s ratings with 8.885 million viewers. Last night, they free fell down the list to 2.521 million viewers.

That is a drop of 6.364 million viewers, or 71.6%.

This comes down to one simple issue, was Phill suspended because he is religious, or because he is intolerant?

We know that the overwhelming majority of Christian sects are intolerant of homosexually.

How do we know this? How many stories are there about churches that refuse to allow gay marriages, parishioners, pastors ect....

Does the Church marry Divorcees? How about liars, thieves and adulterers? But being homosexual get's special condemnation (again by most, not all, of Christianity). This is intolerance fueled by religious dogma.

The rest of us find this kind of intolerance destructive and worthy of our ridicule....

You are free to your thoughts, you are free to your religion, but you aren't free to hoist your intolerance, religious or otherwise upon society and get a free pass just because you do so in the name of your religion.

I'm tolerant of your religion, I'm intolerant of your intolerance.

I'm tolerant of your religion, I'm intolerant of your intolerance.
I am intolerant of your being intolerant of my intolerance to gays and the gay agenda.
Basically, get over it.

Not even close to this backlash.

Remember when we all hated Nexflix?

It will blow over, and I suspect they will come out stronger in the end. Yes they may lose some southern Christians, but I suspect they will gain viewers in the LGBT crowd. Like I said, A&E could sell DD to CMT, reap the windfall, make new shows that cater to their audience and everyone wins.

I am intolerant of your being intolerant of my intolerance to gays and the gay agenda.

Haha...Well I'm intolerant of your being intolerant of my intolerance to intolerance of in, oh **** it....

You know how Christians "love the sinner, hate the sin".....

I love the Christians, hate the intolerance.....

To your mind perhaps, to many others it was an all are sin of equal weight.

On that one show, but last I looked A&E does 24 hour programming. So one show on one airing is a trend? Now realistically the show is over on A&E, some other network will gladly take it over, maybe the CBN bunch. I'd say the folks at A&E did what they felt was proper, the Duckers will do what they need to do, capitalism shouldn't be so worshiped that folks who don't want to associate have to. Let them part ways, both will continue on. Who knows what mindless dribble will replace this mindless dribble.... never underestimate the viewers acceptance of pap.

Maybe it takes religion to make people see the real world.

I know you were just kidding but ill say it for you. Religion exposes people to a fantasy world. A world of fictitious stories made to warm ones heart, give the weak minded hope and strength to plod through life's challenges and a promise for the people that do bad things that its ok, they're washed in the blood of Jesus. And hope of a life of eternity floating around on a cloud singing praises to Jesus for ever and ever and ever.

To your mind perhaps, to many others it was an all are sin of equal weight.
Wtf?
And?
That is true.
They are all sins.
At least we know one is an abomination. The others?

But he did not compare gays to perpetrators of bestiality.
To say so is a false statement.

:doh
Which is an indication of the backlash that you are obviously and willfully ignoring.

Dunno, I haven't watched A & E in years. But I do know that TV shows come and go. Tastes in entertainment change and A & E was strong before this show and will be solid after. The fantasy that A & E will crash and burn without this show is just that "fantasy" Most who turns off A & E today because of this will be tuning in to them down the road, sure thing.

No it wasn't. THe 17% spike in ratings that Duck Dynasty brought them carried them from bottom dweller to ranked #7. Without Disk Dynasty they will sink into obscurity again. But it's a nice touch to preface your assuring prediction of A&Es future with the admission you haven't the slightest clue about A&E and its programming. :doh

Here is the statement many think compares Homosexuality to bestiality- "Start with Homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men"

First by the looks of his grammar I'd say your attempt to use grammatical rules is a non-starter as he damn sure doesn't follow those rules!

Next those who see the comparison see it clearly and those who don't are just as sure.

As far as backlash goes, one airing does not a trend make, you are trying to declare victory after the opening salvo. Due to the clannish nature of the cast I can see the show folding it's tent and leaving. That is one of the ahhh 'features' of this sort of show.

But I'll bet you that tophat in a month some other drivel will fill the slot and who knows how many people will tune in...

For that matter I'd salute A&E if they work harder creating shows like Longmire and leave 'reality' TV to others....

The one thing that did make me shake my head was his opinion blacks were happy before they could eat in the same lunch room, school, church, vote, marry a white girl... just amazing.

I watch intervention regularly and Storage wars on occasion on Netflix, but I do watch em.

You know how Christians "love the sinner, hate the sin".....

I love the Christians, hate the intolerance.....

But it's the libbos who are being intolerant here, and God knows we're all gay atheists.

And I watch old Doctor Who's on Netflix so I know a thing or two about current BBC programming! ;)

But it's the libbos who are being intolerant here, and God knows we're all gay atheists.

Not that liberals can't be intolerant, but what is it you think "libbos" are being intolerant of?

[EDIT:] On the first pass I think I missed the sarcasm

Next those who see the comparison see it clearly and those who don't are just as sure.

The thing is that everybody has made up their mind on this. If you think gays are people too, you think it was right. If you think gays are the spawn of Satan, you've already decided that A&E is violating the First Amendment.

Not that liberals can't be intolerant, but what is it you think "libbos" are being intolerant of?

Intolerant of ignorance. (BTW, your sarcasm detector might be broken)

Here is the statement many think compares Homosexuality to bestiality- "Start with Homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men"
And you are not providing anything that we do not already know. That is not a comparison. He was talking about sins.
Do you really not understand the difference?
But way to leave off that it was a response to a question as to what he thought was sinful.
Like that isn't dishonesty. D'oh!

First by the looks of his grammar I'd say your attempt to use grammatical rules is a non-starter as he damn sure doesn't follow those rules!
Clearly you are wrong, and are ignoring context. Just as you were ignoring the backlash.
In context, it was in reply to a question about what he thought was sinful, that you dishonestly forgot to mention.

Next those who see the comparison see it
Then they are seeing things, or are just plain stupid as no such comparison was made.
What was said is that they were sins. Which is true.

As far as backlash goes, one airing does not a trend make,
Did I say it was a trend?
No I didn't. Pay attention.
It still remains a backlash which was clearly different that what you presented and was clearly being ignored by you.

you are trying to declare victory
Utter nonsense.

But I'll bet you that tophat in a month some other drivel will fill the slot and who knows how many people will tune in...
Bet all you want.
You have no idea at this point.

Like I said;
Maybe, maybe not.
For all you know She will issue a statement saying she was mislead to believe he equated something he did not equate, and then reverse her previous decision. That would be the only appropriate course of action knowing what we now know.

The thing is that everybody has made up their mind on this. If you think gays are people too, you think it was right. If you think gays are the spawn of Satan, you've already decided that A&E is violating the First Amendment.
You seem to have left out those who think gays are people but believe A&E was wrong in their decision.

A&E started a show with a bunch of southerners and now people are surprised that they are Christian and not really gay friendly. Gee, how did they miss that?

Ok, first off Phil isn't fired, he was suspended. They already have 9 out of the 10 shows this season filmed so at most he will be missing from 1 show, and by the time they need to film it, most likely this all will have blown over and he will have apologized for comparing gays to bestiality and implying blacks had it great back in the Jim Crow South.

He was not suspended because he is a Christian, or because he believes that homosexuality is a sin. He was suspended because he compared it to beastiality which is highly offensive. Two adult men or women in a consensual relationship is not the same thing as a guy raping his German Shepard. It is not, and no one other than a total bigot would see it that way. I don't think Phil is a bad guy, he is obviously a nice guy and very religious. That does not change the fact he said something that was highly offensive and any employer would have probably fired any of us had we said something similar in an interview with the local paper.

Here is the quote:

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he tells reporter Drew Magary. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Even Karl with his limited intellect in the movie Sling Blade was able to phrase that one without being offensive:

"The Bible says two men ought not lay together. But I don't reckon the Good Lord would send anybody like you to Hades."

There is no war in this country against Christianity. However, most people are not willing to tolerate someone using their religion as an excuse for saying offensive and bigoted things. Purported Christians doing things like comparing gays to dudes that rape an animal do more damage to Christianity in this country than a million cashiers telling you "Happy Holidays"..

Think you nailed it Southern!

I don't see how everyone doesn't see it that way. What happened to common decency? That is really what this is all about. You would not think such a concept would be controversial.

Yeah I don't either but then religion is really powerful. It makes people do and say all kinds of things they never would without it. It can be really scary, the things people will do thinking it pleases their god, which is not at all just a criticism of Christianity.
