Pope on Christmas: A Christian that shows off is a pagan

I would expect that response, since you are at the end of the road with worthwhile posts on this thread .

You and I are good company then. The difference - you started out that way.

Look, I have little regard for ANY Pope and even less for the catholic church as a whole. Historically they have been the polar opposite of everything Christ came to teach. This one may be better than the last one, but that isn't saying anything. He's made a few speeches but the church remains the same place as it was under the last Pope, and the one before that, and the one before that.

Color me naive, but I believe this Pope is an epiphany..He's dumping and shuffling more extreme cardinals and archbishops..Though I'm not back with the Eucharist yet, I am back to going with my wife and the mass responses have certainly changed, if just for the sake of it .

An epiphany is probably a really good thing to say about someone. It being the reality is severely exaggerated. I think this Pope is smart and possibly quite important, but an epiphany? Not yet.

NIMBY, Clownboy, chill out...

When another gets to the point of saying "not yet" as you have on the Pope, it shows how much of a difference this Pope has already made..
While the Pope tries to walk back the Church's heavy emphasis on bashing gays, Duck trots out his garbage at Christmas..

I say "not yet" because he is relatively young and fresh into his post, not because of what has thus transpired.

Got me, unlike you I haven't listened to him since he had his TV show.

I used to listen to him years ago. I'm in a 12 step program for that.

Oops, there goes the prosperity gospel down the drain.... And why not? It is heresy, and runs counter to everything that Jesus taught. Kudos to you, Pope Francis.

Article is here.

Ah, no. While I am frankly opposed to the Prosperity Gospel (I am also opposed to the Poverty Gospel) idea that you can measure someone's goodness by their wealth (or lack thereof), Pope Francis' remark is pretty clearly about pride; and he is right - the building up of ones' own self is indeed pagan.
