Obama Jabs Putin, Picks Openly Gay Delegates For Winter Olympics In Russia

I don't believe that anyone will ever 'win' WWII.

That being said I also believe that if the U.S. Military went to war with the Russian Military, the U.S. Military would win that battle. That tells me that the President of the USA, Barack Obama, is the most powerful man on this planet.

And that Putin is a poseur.

Well the grandchildren of those who said the next war would be fought with stones and sticks are saying the next war will be fought with drones (UAV's) and robots. :lamo

The Chinese and many of our allies are saying that the American military has become to dependent on technology and when that technology is compromised, the U.S. military will not be able to fight.

Vladimir Putin is a thug, a X KGB thug. Dealing with Putin is like dealing with the Russian Mafia.

What Putin wants is respect, he wants the world and especially America to respect Russia. He sent a message last January to Obama, while giving Obama the bird he let it be known that Russia from now on will be sitting at the poker table and will have a say so from now on, on what will be going on in the world. The "Bear" is out of hibernation and will be a world power.

The problem President Obama has, he doesn't have one person in his administration who knows how to deal with Putin, not one. The entire Obama administration is second rate.

President G.W. Bush knew how to deal with Putin, he had Condoleezza Rice as part of his administration. Obama has nobody.

1. Maybe you should pressure your president to skip the games altogether if Russian policies are so bad.

2. The incidence of AIDS is growing worldwide, so you could be right. Gayness certainly seems to be spreading... so to speak.

3. Because of Obama, millions of American families are suffering right now. Using your logic, if you support Obama, you support Americans suffering at his hand.

Same, same.

1. That is a poor response to my points. Are you saying you agree that Putin has been a loathsome authoritarian? That's progress at least.

2. HIV/AIDS is not related to homosexuality. In the present day it overwhelmingly affects heterosexuals and is spread through heterosexual intercourse.

3. Obama =/= Putin. I'm saying Putin is responsible for those things because he literally ordered the murders of journalists, literally ordered the imprisonment of opposition activists, and literally had protest movements crushed with truncheons and violence.

Why? Why is being gay so important to anyone?

It isn't. But oppressing people for being gay is important and should be opposed. Just like it would be for being Jewish, Christian, heterosexual, white, black, etc.

Is that what I said? No, it's not.
We're agreed since I didn't quote you saying that. Good job defending your own strawman.

The point I was making is this is no more discrimination than it's discrimination for the other 7 delegates to not be openly gay.
And my point made fun of your point.

I don't know any Americans who admire Putin, just Americans who wished Obama had a pair and wasn't the second most powerful man in the world but the most powerful man in the world.

Barack Obama is incompetent. His foreign policies have been a complete failure. He plays checkers while the rest of the worlds leaders play chess.

If you naysayers still want to defend a narcissist failure and want America to become second rate like the Obama administration, why not do the majority of Americans a favor and vacate the premises. You people had your chance and blew it big time. How long and how much will it cost to repair the damages this community activest has caused ?

A community activist ? :lamo

I'm not a supporter of the President, nor am I defending him. I wish we had another man in the oval office right now. That being said it doesn't mean that literally everything he does is worthy of censure as some to believe. Linking to a pro-Putin article is as scummy as Putin himself is.

Is that what I said? No, it's not. The point I was making is this is no more discrimination than it's discrimination for the other 7 delegates to not be openly gay.

But, the OP claims that the gay delegates were picked for their sexuality and not their merits.

CIA/KGB and George H. W. Bush was a CIA thug.

The delegation is not the pool of competitors. The pool of competitors is based on who meets the athletic standards for participation in their sports. The delegation serves as "ambassadors" of the U.S. It can include former athletes, Olympians, and others including political officials, business leaders, etc.

Yeah...I know the difference.

No, Snowden is just willing to allow secret US documents fall into the hands of enemy nations.

No, Snowden just exposed the government for spying on the world - you and I to boot.

Manning was the one who leaked files - you know - "Chelsea Manning" - that was Wikileaks..

I have no ill will against Snowden or Manning...

This is supposed to be a free country, all those cats did was have evidence that proves it's anything but.

No he isn't. And both he and Glen Grenwald made clear from the beginning that nothing would be made public that would jeopardize national security. Some 200,000 documents have been made available (1.7 million are in their possession) and so far they have been true to that assurance. The disclosures so far are however damaging to the NSA's image because they have been caught!! I'll say once again that there have been law professors, constitutional lawyers, watchdog groups such as ACLU and EFF to name just a couple, politicians on both sides of the isle, even within the intelligence committees, a SCOTUS judge, a couple of ex-presidents and now most recently a federal judge, all of which see the NSA as a threat to our republic and in need of reform. Why you stand on the other side of the fence on this is truly bizarre.

It's a nice thought and will get Obama brownie points with the gay community...but if he thinks it will matter much to Putin, I think he is naive.

But, it seems a political move with little downside.

It's a diplomatic delegation for the Olympic press, part of the merits are the message the delegates send. It would be like prioritizing a black athlete for a delegation to Apartheid South Africa. The purpose is served by the message.

So, the objective is to politicize the Olympics?

If I was in Snowden or Mannings shoes I would have released those documents - without a second thought....

I'm a patriot and those documents just prove how invasive the United States government is - not only to laymen or typical individuals but to the world as a whole....

I understand our government spy's but to that extent blew my mind...... I thought J. Edgar Hoover was just eccentric....

The Olympics have always been subject to politicization whether the IOC wants it that way or not. I hope you wont plead on the sanctity of the games, I would find it very hard to believe that you were a diehard believer in the purity of sport. Reagan and Bush were right to support the boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games, and Obama is right in sending a principled snub to the Sochi games.

No doubt... McDonalds lost a **** ton at the 1984 Olympics because the Russians boycotted it...

I'm not even going to tell the story but it's certainly worth the google. It's certainly a good read from any source.

Oh my god. This fascist authoritarian chic on the right has to stop. If you admire Putin you are not a conservative, you are an authoritarian ideologue.

but he wrestles tigers and ****

I just think Obama enjoys ribbing Putin...

I don't like either one - it seems they're in some pseudo-socialist competition, or are competing with one another on who the worlds real dictator is.

It's like Stalin and Hitler with those guys...

:doh:doh

Putin certainly doesn't like Obama, and Obama is a person who needs to be loved so....

Putin and Obama are not on good terms at all... Their body language shows that......

Way to contradict yourself in your own post. You claim we agree I didn't say that, and then go on to defend your post which assumes I did.

Perhaps you ought to research what a "strawman" is before you erroneously use it in conversation.
But, the OP claims that the gay delegates were picked for their sexuality and not their merits.
No it doesn't. Perhaps you should reading the opening post.

Creating a new false premise of a contradiction now?

No it doesn't. Perhaps you should reading the opening post.

Hell yea!
Give Putin the diplomatic middle finger!
Love this move Obama! Great move!

I read it, that's what it says as does the comments by the original poster. Will you now start arguing up is down and left is right? My guess is yes... If you do not agree, not my problem. However I do find that you tend not to debate but simply taking a contradictory position for little to no legitimate reason. Simply denying the obvious is not debate. Please learn the difference.

Creating a new false premise of a contradiction now?
No, accurately describing the contradiction in your post. Once more, you can't defend it, just make more accusations.

I read it, that's what it says as does the comments by the original poster.
No it doesn't. Please point out exactly where it says they were picked because of their sexuality, not their merits. All it says is two of the people picked were homosexual, it does not say they were selected because of their sexuality.

Once more, you are wrong. It seems to be a pattern when you discuss things with me.

Will you now start arguing up is down and left is right?
No, I prefer to discuss the truth. I hope one of these days you can discuss it with me.

However I do find that you tend not to debate but simply taking a contradictory position for little to no legitimate reason.
Uhh, YOU replied to ME, with a response which inaccurately depicted my comment.

Pot, meet kettle.

Simply denying the obvious is not debate.
There's nothing to debate, you've been wrong multiple times. You made a strawman argument (which makes your erroneous use of the fallacy later quite humorous), and were called out on it. You then directly contradicted yourself and are now claiming things in the article which simply aren't there because you apparently cannot distinguish between the written word and what you infer from it.

There's nothing to debate, you're just wrong. As I said, it seems to be a pattern with you when you discuss things with me.
