Whole Foods employees striking over requirements to work Thanksgiving

He said someone who ACCEPTS his conditions. Thats not dictatorship. He wants somek e who is WILLING to accept his conditions. He said nothing about force
Exactly right. My offense to labor trying to call the shots is that they have nothing but their labor to offer, I'm taking the risk, I've got the collateral up, I'm paying the checks, and only my ass is on the line. I shut down they look for work or draw unemployment while I could lose property, credit, and even credibility and reputation as a businessman. I took all the risk and expenditures, I signed the contracts, but they want and equal say? Bull****.

Should a coal miner accept working for a boss that does not give his workers the basic garentee of saftey, or compensation for becoming sick with black lung disease?
Should they? No, it's not a smart decision. Should they be allowed to? IMO yes even though it's a stupid decision. Can they? Not legally, they won't face consequences of unsafe conditions but the owners of the mine could.

It's simple, you do not get to call the shots against YOUR EMPLOYER. You work for them, not the other way around, you get paid for your labor, your manager sets the rules, and the owner is the last word. Don't like it, start your own business.

While the owner can dictate the rules, employees can have some say on a variety of issues without fear of punishment or being exploited.

Bully tactics....how surprising.
My house, my rules. Unionizing is bullying, it's saying they will hold up MY production if they don't get THEIR way, and it's insubordination which is a terminable offense. Don't like it, work for someone else.

They can be fired at will in my state. And they would be.

That's not what he said. He said my rules or you walk. That gives no room for negotiation.

Thats if the owner approves. Id feel differently if we didnt live in a free country.

And what if the coal miners only job oppertunity is to work in the coal mine?

The right to collective bargain is legal so no... You can't simply say go somewhere else if your employees want to negotiate.

Yeah, if you accept the rules, you get the job, you dont then you dont. Theres a choice there. He isnt putting a gun to anyones head.

No, he can't. People in the US have the right to collective bargain whether he likes it or not.

You dont have a right to force your will on people. If he doesnt want to negotiate, he doesnt have to.

Our local grocery store was open until noon or 1 or something similar. No biggie. I do not know why everyone is making a big deal out of working on Thanksgiving.

You can walk out anytime you want. You can work for someone else. Why is that so hard to understand?

If the balance structure is shifted in one direction, you end up with slave labor. People who work 50+ hours for twelve dollars a day can quit too but twelve dollars is better than zero. That is the definition of exploitation.

No it isnt. And slaves arent consenting workers. This whole post is wrong on so many levels.

Then that's what they've got to do unless they choose to either move or better their situation with education or management programs.
