Whole Foods employees striking over requirements to work Thanksgiving

I hope many of them suffer a stroke and drive to a hospital where the doors are closed and nobody's there.

That won't happen if they eat stuff from Whole Foods.

There should be no compromise. Employers who want their employees to show up to work on Thanksgiving (or Christmas or Winter Solstice, or whatever) should be able to force them.

Fine by me. Enjoy the new unions and higher prices that could have been prevented by common sense policies.

They can change jobs. Dislike it from the unemployment line.

WF should fire the lot of them.

Yep, it costs much less to completely retrain new employees than to merely lose business for one day

Neither one of those things will be a problem if government keeps its nose out of labor issues altogether, like it should.

Why not? That's their job. Nobody is holding a gun to their heads, they can quit and go find another job that doesn't require them to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Correct, they have the right to quit. They also have the right to not show up whenever they feel like.

They are also not required to quit if they choose not to show up.

If a union doesn't like being forced to work on Thanksgiving, fire everybody in the union. There are plenty of scabs out there who need jobs.

I don't think that Whole Foods can raise their prices any higher and still have any customers :nails

Whole Foods was founded by a libertarian. Despite the fact that its brand is oriented towards hippy-dippy liberals, Whole Foods is very much "the man."

In order to qualify as "the man", WF would have to get taxpayer subsidies.

And then those new scabs will refuse to work the next Thanksgiving, and so on. . .

Not a chance, not if they have an ounce of sense. If they want to keep their jobs then they'll show up for work.

Totally false. They can not show up and still keep their jobs--

(CNN) -- It's a slice of life you don't often hear about.
Shortly after a manager at a Pizza Hut franchise in Elkhart, Indiana, announced that he was fired for refusing to open on Thanksgiving Day, the company is offering him his job back.

The federal govt. generally doesn't care about labor; it's more interested in dolling out taxpayer $$ to corporations.

Though something tells me WF doesn't get much corporate welfare.

All corporations get government welfare, in the form of limited liability. The value of limited liability cannot be overstated, and it is the root cause of all corporate corruption.

True, but I suspect rush may be telling his flock that those refusing to work on Thanksgiving in defiance of their employer's wishes are breaking the law.

What the hell does Rush have to do with anything?

If an employee does not show up when scheduled, he/she quit.

How many more jobs do you think are out there for these people?

of all the falsehoods repeated about Walmart, this is one thing people actually can blame walmart for. They were opening their doors early on T-day evening and holding all the shoppers in line for hours before they officially started selling stuff, thereby sponging up the pool of crazy white people shopping like the EBT system was down.

I'm always working.

well, that's good. why are you wasting your employer's time posting on the the internet? get back to it! otherwise, we'll have to find a scab to replace you.

I just wish they would ask for identification from these so-called strikers/demonstrators. I'll bet at least half of them are union shills. Major unions cannot stand it that many food/retail stores aren't unionized. This is one salvo of many they'll continue firing until, they hope, they win.
Quick way to end that, ban them from the premises, if they refuse to move on have them arrested for multiple charges ranging from remaining after forbidden, to public nuisance, all the way to interfering with lawful business.

Then it's a good thing I've got Big Brother Government to protect me. God forbid an employer be able to fire their employees at will. That would be anarchy!

move to my state. they can fire you for eating mayonnaise here. good thing, too. we can't let the evil poor get too comfortable just because it's Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Nothing wrong with being poor. In fact, being poor is a much higher level, spiritually speaking, than being rich.

The problem is government interference with the God-given rights of business owners to fire their employees for whatever reason they want.
