Joan Rivers Tells It Like It Is

The politics of comedy lol. There was a somewhat clever show that used to be on called The Green Room. It was mostly pretty great stuff, but really niche. Anyways, they'd get into the parts of jokes and what makes them cool or horrible, they would drink and whatnot. Then sometimes there would be almost no self-awareness when they were venturing into politics. Some of the political commentary would be hilarious, but then other times it would seem beyond redemption, like you were staring into the face of an angry child after they were told Santa Claus did not exist.

Never heard of it, but it's on YouTube

She is dead right...PC has gotten WAAAAAY out of hand.

Supposedly, Baldwin said the following: ' “c**ksucking f*g”'

So what?

If the guy is gay, he probably does suck penis. And if he isn't, then the statement shouldn't bother him at all since it's not applicable.

I think Baldwin is a pig - and that freakout on his daughter is 1,000 times worse to me then this.

But free speech is above everything to me.

Good for Joan Rivers.

Anyone actually offended by this is WAAAAAY too thin skinned.

Ha, that's great. If you watch that particular episode, it's like a direct commentary on the subject of this thread. Like I said, some of them are pretty, well, not really aware of how they sound.

Yeah, I just got done listening to that episode. It was great!

"Do you know what you're doing to feminism?"

"Hopefully, feminizing it!" :lamo

I was trying to post a comment in another racial thread that was suddenly closed for review...but my comment applies here, and shows why Baldwin and Rivers (and I've always liked Joan Rivers) are simply wrong. The thread was concerning the "right" of whites to use the n-word...but I think we can all agree that the same principle applies when it comes to homophobic slurs...or slurs of any type.

============begin paste=========

The same people who think it should be okay to use the n-word whenever they want are the same kind of people who think it should be okay to say queer, kike, spic, macaca, hymie, raghead, chink, Jew-boy, wetback, faggot, bluegum, coon, rice-n***er, slopehead, wop, zipperhead...the list goes on. There's no NEED to use these words. If someone who really is Jewish wants to call his fellow Jews "kikes", fine, he can do that - Mel Brooks was famous for making fun of his fellow Jews (and he's still the best comedy director ever). If blacks want to call each other names, fine. If a Hispanic wants to call his fellow Hispanics spics, fine.

You see where I'm going with this - if you want to use the words against your OWN kind...fine. That's between you and those of your own kind, whatever your particular kind may be.

In fact, if you'll think about it, it's not even about race or ethnicity - it's about those within a group being the ONLY ones who can really get away with insulting those who are a part of that group. For instance, if one Marine calls another Marine a 'Jarhead', they'll likely both laugh about it...but if I walk up and call some Marine a 'Jarhead', he'll most likely laugh with me (or more likely laugh AT me)...but he might also punch me in the mouth and dare me to do something about it (and it would be stupid of me to assume that the Marine would do otherwise). For another example, if I were to walk up to one of my fellow whites in the MS Delta and call them a redneck, he'll probably laugh about it and proudly agree...but he just might see it in the way that I'm no longer a Southerner and have lost any right to call him a redneck, and things might go downhill from there.

It even applies to religion - if one Southern Baptist (and I was one, once) refers to a SB preacher as "a real hellfire-and-brimstone preacher", other SB's would laugh about it and nod their heads in agreement...but if a Muslim says that about a SB preacher, you'd probably agree that there wouldn't be any laughter, that things might be taking a very dangerous turn, indeed. "How dare that Muslim think he can talk about our preacher that way? He ain't one of us!"

This is why it's okay for blacks to use the n-word, but not us. It's not about race or ethnicity, but about us not being part of that particular group.

============end paste=============

And this is why it's okay for LGBT's to call each other insulting slurs, but it's NOT okay for those of us who are straight to do so. We're not (or at least most of us are not) part of that group.

Libbos don't hesitate to call someone white trash, yet are damn slow to condemn it.

Y'all don't really care, outside the realm of political correctness.

Please, regale us with examples of liberal politicians and pundits race-baiting against whites. And for every one you show us - with good references, now - I'll show you at least FIVE examples of conservative politicians and pundits race-baiting. Want to take me up on this challenge?

You prove my point beautifully! Thank you!

The point is, Libbos aren't opposed to people using racial slurs; they're opposed to people using some racial slurs and others are ok.

Political correctness sucks ass...

I think she makes two good points:

1) Comedians have no use for PC (except to make fun of it)

2) Everyone is "something" (an ethnic or social minority of some kind)

However, that's not what the Baldwin controversy is about. What it's about is how he used someone's sexual orientation as the basis of a slur.

Again I will ask. Was the photographer he was yelling at gay?

In other words, you don't want to take me up on the challenge. You know better than to even try.

Your challenge is stupid and pointless.

Ya see? You people will NEVER stop believing that it's whites against blacks. It's always about race with the Libbo.

Thanks for introducing me to that show. I loved it! Uncensored, real people discussing stuff in the way real people do...and not there to promote their new 'product'.

No, you're completely wrong about that. Actually the hurtful and disgusting things she said are closely aligned to your own delight and viciousness in using the words "Right wing whack jobs" and "Used up wrinkled douche bag" in your post.

Keep em comin Shecky. As if you and your ilk can lay claim to anything remotely close to civility? Really?

Most of the episodes are good. There's a couple of duds here or there, but it is usually excellent. Too short lived unfortunately.

When I found out it was cancelled and wanted a replacement. I hadn't seen it yet, but I think Seinfeld has a podcast called Comedians Go For Coffee or something. It might be worth a catch as well.

Slurs While Defending Alec Baldwin, Tells America to “Relax” — WATCH VIDEOTruth rating: 10
Alec Baldwin Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers unloads a string of slurs in a new video after being asked about the fallout over Alec Baldwin’s recent use of homophobic language.
The comedian has no use for political correctness, and makes her case with some extremely sensitive terms.
“Everybody, just relax,” says Rivers in response to the Baldwin situation.
She goes on to say, “Everybody is either a wop, a n**ger, a k*ke, a ch*nk, a fairy, a mick… everybody’s something, so why don’t we all just calm down?”
Rivers adds, “Be thankful that we’re all living in America, and stop everybody getting so damn uptight.”
Do you think she has a point, or is she way off base?
1. She's not even really making a point. On the surface she is, sure, but all she's really trying to do is get attention because she's a desperate old woman who feels her career slipping away to younger comedians. I actually find her quite sad because she was a "trailblazer" as people often point out and I think she could have spent the end of her career with much more self-respect, but she's chosen the road of cheap "jokes" aimed at getting controversy. Sad way for a legend to go out.

2. As for whether political correctness has run amok and people are getting "so damn uptight"? I find those sorts of comments rather useless. The fact is that Joan Rivers and people who think like her aren't the arbiters of appropriate levels of "uptightness", sensitivity and "political correctness." And, even further, such dismissive comments about people's criticisms and complaints are usually just defensive reactions to being criticized and being forced to consider a perspective outside one's narcissistic mind.
