Pack your bags, Alec! MSNBC fires Baldwin over anti-gay slurs | Page Six

Alec Baldwinhas been fired by MSNBC, sources say.
The rage-aholic’s weekly show, “Up Late With Alec Baldwin,” has been canceled because of the actor’s foul-mouthed rant at a photographer he called a nasty name.
“The decision has been made. He’s gone,” an insider at the cable channel told me. “The [parent company] Comcast guys have decided. Word is spreading through the building.”
Baldwin’s dismissal was decided on partly because of his diva-like behavior toward co-workers, a source said.
Besides demanding a humidifier because he claimed the air at 30 Rock was too dry, Baldwin alienated staffers when he demanded a separate makeup room being used by a woman with cancer who is sensitive to hairspray.
When Baldwin was told he couldn’t have his way, he allegedly bellowed at the top of his lungs, “I don’t give a f - - k if she has cancer or not, I want that f - - king makeup room.”

It seems like Baldwin can't keep control over himself.

I think NBC is covering themselves with these other charges. I think he was fired for the "anti-gay" rant at the photographer.

Any ideas on this?

Frankly, I don't believe the make-up room story. If she's allergic to hairspray and they use hairspray on him? Fine. He should have a separate room. End of story. As to the rest of it? He's a Grade A #1 Asshole.

Anchors on MSNBC have behaved worse on-air and nothing was done...

He attacked a bad "protected" group. That cut into MSNBC's profits. If he had said ridiculous, absurd comments about conservatives, Palin, or pro-lifers he'd still have a job.

Sometimes I think that Democrats and liberals don't really give a damn about gays, but just keep the Big Tent open for them so they can have more numbers for rally purposes. They do the same thing for blacks.

The left looks at everybody with contempt. It is the underpinnings of liberal philosophy. Every now and then, one gets caught and the rest will just go about hating in secret.

There's that strawman again.

Well we saw what he called his daughter.

Why would a photographer expect better treatment, after all he wasn't even his kid.

Why is what he said being characterized as anti-gay though?

Alec Baldwin has had a reputation of being quite difficult to work with for a long, long time. This is no secret.

I'm sure the anti-gay slur also is a big part of it. Probably the anvil that broke the camel's back.

Public figures have been fired for making slurs before. This isn't exactly a unique case.

I admit I haven't seen anything on MSNBC apart from the occasional Maddow clip online for a long time, so I don't really know the extent to which they've gone downhill in the last couple years. I stopped paying attention once they started taking the "fight fire with fire" approach to competing against Fox. Bleh.

There's that strawman again.

The truth is the truth, no matter how inconvenient it is for you. The left hates everybody except to the extent that they can use them.

Who or what is "the left?"

Is 30 Rock still on the air? Cant say that i have ever watched an episode but it seems to me that since Tracy Morgan got a free pass with his anti-gay slurs Baldwin should get the same.

Dems by and large do not and have proven it time and again, but really, you don't see the diff between attacking someone for their political views and their sexuality/race/gender? Even Fox canned a football analyst for anti-gay comments. It's a stupid ass way to conduct oneself and garners no sympathy from me. Then again, anyone could have seen this coming. Baldwin has always been a pig and the mistake was hiring him in the first place.

Baldwin is a self-centered jerk just like the rest of his family - all low grade actors on a good day.

That being said, it is much ado about nothing.

Everyone these days is looking to be offended about something, and make a big about it because they can.

The 1A guarantees freedom of speech for just about anything, so everyone needs to stop being offended over every little thing said.

Basically, everyone needs to STFU and get a spine.

Has he 'apologized' for any of it? I hate those half assed apologies that you know they don't even really mean just saying it to shut everyone up. But I do think if someone is acting like a jerk to everyone at work and causing problems, I could see how that might be grounds to be released from the job if they don't shape up. Who wants to work with someone that acts like that?

As for Baldwin personally, I loved him in Beetlejuice.

I'll take a guess you haven't seen Bio-Dome. Oscar winning performance there.

:2razz:

Oh, I think he's a good actor. But not good enough to pretend that he's an adult who's able to control himself. The public temper tantrums are sad in a person his age. His employer apparently realized that he's too great a liability, and I hope the shock convinces Baldwin to enter into therapy for realz.

That doesn't explain, though, why that same employer hasn't disciplined Bashir for his appalling on-air comment about Sarah Palin. What hypocrisy.

She was trivializing slavery by making the comparison she did. Apparently he thought it fitting to illustrate how ignorant her trivialization was by essentially saying "since it's supposedly so trivial, she needs it done to her, so that she will realize it isn't so trivial". I get it. And agree with his tactic. It's like when liberals equate some conservatives with Hitler. I am sure at least some conservatives have thought, "these liberals need a little dose of concentration camp before they make that comparison again".

It's a form of hyperbole meant to squelch the idiocy of the other side.

It's a form of vulgarity that is beneath contempt. It's never necessary to suggest under ANY circumstances that the person with whose views we disagree should be defecated on.

If you don't understand that there is a line and that Bashir crossed it--irrespective of what Palin said or intended or what anybody might say about anything--then I feel sorry for you because you truly don't get it.

The show's over, but it's a common slang term for the NBC studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Unless you're into that. I'm not going to judge.
