A young girl was found caged and attempting to eat herself in a mobile home in Virginia, and cops say her parents are responsible.

The malnourished girl, believed to be either 5 or 6, was discovered in a crib that was converted into a makeshift cage after police arrived at the home in Gloucester County to investigate a burglary last week.

The girl's parents, Brian and Shannon Gore, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The mother was also charged with attempted capital murder.

These charges will be upgraded, because authorities found the remains of another child buried under a shed on the property. Words cannot describe the utter revulsion I feel about this. The parents are not human.... NOT human.

What the hell is wrong with some people?

I know not everyone is cut out to be a parent and not everyone can be a decent parent... but how... just how do you end up like this?
If you don't want kids, WEAR A CONDOM. Or get a vasectomy. Or get sterilized. Or something. Don't... .don't do this sort of thing.

Cannot understand how people like that think.

Having just had a child... I cannot even imagine what kind of monsters these parents must be to enact such cruelty... it is truly inhuman and no nightmares I've had even come close to the horror that is this story.

Give me a shed, the parents and some tools and we'll rectify the situation.

And people think that as a race we stand a chance with these kinds of genes in the pool.. Shocking, pure shocking.

Well at least Virginia has a death penalty. Here's hoping they expedite the process in this case. Breaks my heart.

Those two adults are truly vile people. I believe there is a special place in hell for people that hurt children.

Indeed, they're not human - but unfortunately, not unique either:

Boy, 5, starved to death by grandparents was called a pig, inquest told | CTV Toronto News

This is a case where grandparents were given custody of two children because the parents were abusing them and yet the Children's Aid Society didn't do a background check on the grandparents, or they would have known that the grandparents had previously been charged and sentenced with child abuse.

It is impossible for me to understand what kind of mental illness must exist in a person's mind to believe such treatment of helpless children is appropriate.

In one respect, I agree with Hillary Clinton when she was talking about "it takes a village" - people today are too distracted by their own personal issues to see or expose such atrocities going on around them. I'm not a bleeding heart, but this type of thing breaks the heart.

Tim-

Its always been there and we made it this far. Pretty tame considering some of the atrocities committed towards kids in the past.

This reeks of drugs. The neglect coupled with stealing points to it. Gloucester County is pretty known for its prevalence of drugs too. Hope they throw these two scumbags in prison for a really long time.

And of course, we have this

"They seemed like nice people," neighbor Tim Hudnall told the newspaper....

"He was really a nice guy," Brian Gore's ex-girlfriend, Sandy, told WTKR 3 News in Norfolk. "He went to church and everything."

If ever some horrible crime is committed by a neighbor of mine, and I'm interviewed by a journalist, you all have permission to shoot me dead if I tell them "He seemed like such a nice guy"

Where did you read this?

Unlikely unless they can prove premeditation in the death of the one child, which would be hard unless one parent sells out the other in a deal. I knew a couple people from Gloucester--very temperamental and standoffish so it does not surprise me that much where it came from. Virginia has some weird coastal communities. Lord Forbid you ever have to deal with real Watermen from that area.

Lived near there in my youth. Also goes hand in hand with areas with a heavy commercial fishing population. Strange correlation but one that exists none the less.

My Sociology instructor last year is also over our local DFACs office. She said that the kids always go to the grandparents first, because they honestly don't think the grandparents have to be vetted. They started vetting the grandparents in her district after they answered a complaint about a child not attending school, and they found the child dying, handcuffed to the handrail on a staircase. He died not long after they got him to the hospital, and his grandmother had custody of him.

I wonder how long before someone interjects with the same old refrain "But he wasn't a real Christian!!"

This **** just wrecks me. Those poor babies. These people are broken, probably beyond repair.

It amazes me to hear that the grandparents aren't investigated first. Wouldn't you suspect someone damaged enough to do this to their own child had awful experiences of their own? Seems likely enough that it should give them pause.

You just have to wonder what goes through their heads.

In a perfect world, it'd be a bullet.

I think you'll need to provide some sources.

I'm not a religious person but stories like this make me hope that there is another life and a better place for these innocent children.

As for thinking grandparents shouldn't be vetted, I think it's been said before that people form their morals and sense of right and wrong from their nuclear family unit. people don't just wake up one day and think that handcuffing a child to a handrail is normal or acceptible - that has to be learned somewhere - probably in the family home - I'd want to vet the parents of abusive parents, definitely.

They would be really f-----g broken if they were turned over to me for punishment. Incidentally, my father tried to kill me, twice, when I was a tiny tot yet I never harmed a single hair in both my girl's heads. I'm sick to death of the old "he can't help it, he was badly treated as a child" alibi. BTW, Americans would see me as further to the left than Lenin.

i'm not excusing anything you know. Only someone broken would do this kind of thing. Being broken doesn't mean you are not still responsible for your actions.

People like this need the death penalty. And a painful one at that.

People like this are just six feet of stacked crap that walks around stinking up the world and we need to flush the toilet.

I understand. My father was an abusive man and my gut reaction is that I want to rip their throats out. We simply make the choice to be more civilized then that. Right?

Exactly - moreso than others.
