Raising the minimum wage is good because the money is immediately spent boosting the economy plus there is little evidence it lowers employment levels. Of course conservatives will come up with anecdotal evidence trying to prove their point, but whenever the minimum wage is raised in Oregon employment isn't hurt.

Gallup: 76% Of Americans Support A Minimum Wage Increase

More than three quarters of Americans support an increase in the minimum wage, according to a Gallup Poll released Monday.
Seventy-six percent said the minimum wage should be raised to $9 per hour, a five point jump from March. A law that would raise the minimum wage and tie future minimum wage increases to inflation got slightly less support at 69 percent.

Fifty-six percent of Republicans said they oppose linking the minimum wage to inflation, while only eight percent of Democrats opposed that type of measure.

Voters in New Jersey approved a measure Tuesday that raises the minimum wage in the state to $8.25 and ties further increases to inflation.

Time for all the wing nuts who say that we should repeal ACA because the majority opposes it to chime in and tell us why we shouldn't pass this even though the overwhelming majority support it

How many of those 76% actually have to meet a payroll or rationalize a business based on expenses versus revenue?

But hey, Obama has started to destroy full time employment in America with Obamacare so why not finish the job by upping the minimum wage.

Well given Obama's overall and issue specific polling numbers, I say we attach it to his articles of impeachment and pass it with bi-partisan support. Nobody should stand in the way of a poll.

So I'll put you down as being in support of increasing the minimum wage

I wouldn't be opposed to it if it is reasonable. That $15.00 BS is stupid. What is suggested here makes sense to me so long as it isn't an obligated increase but a quantified increase tied to inflation. Perhaps a fluid system whereby it increases or decreases with economic growth and retractions.

Here in WA we have the largest minimum wage at $9.00. That works for us, but not sure if that would work in more economically depressed areas or places with lower cost of living like Alabama or Ohio. Maybe tie it in some quantitative way with cost of living indicators?

So I'll put you down as being in support of increasing the minimum wage

I don't think it will make a lick of difference either way, so have at it. $50 an hour works for me.

I have no objection raising the minimum wage or tying it to the CPI (indexing). What I would insist upon in exchange for that is a maximum combined (federal, state and local) social program annual benefit of 2000 times that hourly rate (regardless of how many dependents they may claim);. it makes absolutely no sense to pay folks more not to work than those working full time at the minimum wage can earn.

That has one serious problem - President Joe Biden. ;)

The DNC has already kicked him aside and nominated Hillary in 2016. Problem is only temporary.

This would be legitimate if most Americans were...what's the word? Oh yeah. Smart.

Of course uneducated scrubs are going to support MW increases - it's immediate gratification, and they don't understand the ramifications of it. If they did, they wouldn't make minimum wage.

I don't cater to the lowest common denominator.

Gallup is a Right Wing poll. So, we can ignore it. Right?

My response to that is to get a real job and get your lazy ass off minimum wage.

I agree. 76% of Americans should definitely make more than the minimum wage. I cannot encourage them enough to go forth and earn it.

I would be Ok if the min wage was on par with what a welfare recipient made. It's my understanding that at the current avg for min wage for 40 hrs is less than what the avg recipient receives in welfare (I'm currently too tires to look it up :) ).

So more Americans are unthinking idiots than just the Dem party.

That sounds about right, only I'd think that someone working full time should be making at least 10% or so more than someone who is just living on the largess of government.

So now everyone who works a minimum wage job is "lazy"? ]

along with that, there need to be more "real" jobs than there are.

Don't bother trying to explain that to them. Most of the conservatives here seem to feel like anyone making less money than they are is a shiftless loser, no matter how many hours they work.

Interesting. Perhaps you might find the opinion of these uneducated scrubs worth noting: Poll Results | IGM Forum

The results aren't nearly as one sided as you seem to presume, due to more recent studies conducted that find the negative effect of wage hikes to have been previously overstated.

Yeah, those uneducated scrubs should just go out and become doctors or something.

Not only does the right shriek at people who aren't working, they seem to want to make life more difficult for people who ARE working jobs they deem unworthy of any financial reward.

If higher wages are better then why not make then really high, like $250 an hour. Under your concept that would really BOOST the economy.

Good point! All I did was take off two weeks (no paid vacation?) but I should have taken off more allowing for SS/Medicare payroll taxation and, as you point out, incentive to actually get a job.

Good thing there's no grey area between "doctor" and "minimum wage".

Also, I want them to work - which is why I don't want it raised.
