'We Shouldn't Be Putting Journalists in Jail': Fox News Reporter Faces Jail Time...

Re: 'We Shouldn't Be Putting Journalists in Jail': Fox News Reporter Faces Jail Time.

What crime did this journalist commit in trying to uphold their free press rights and keep their source a secret?

I don't know the details of this case but I was speaking generally when I said that protection of the press has gone too far. In this case, if the information leaked was crucial to the prosecution's case or the defense case and damaged either case, then printing the leaked information damages society's goal of seeking justice. What is the problem with letting a trial progress to its end and then releasing information about the case and/or the parties involved? Just because we now seem to have a 24/7 need for news or what passes as news, doesn't mean we need to feed it.

I just find it odd that a profession held in such low regard by most people is given such freedom and privilege.

Fox doesn't want their reporters jailed, but Snowden, Manning, and Assange are fair game, right? All journalism needs protection, not just those backed up by a major corporation.

Snowden is a journalist?

Snowden is a journalist?

I found that to be a rather odd statement as well. Neither is Manning. You could make a very tenuous argument for Assange.

Whistleblowers are protected under other laws, if that's a consideration.

Journalists have no rights under the constitution.

'We Shouldn't Be Putting Journalists in Jail': Fox News Reporter Faces Jail Time Unless She Reveals Sources

I can't believe they want to put this woman in jail. Protecting ones sources, as a journalist, is an absolute MUST. Without that protection then NO journalist anywhere in the US would be able to do their job.
"speaking on condition of anonymity" - best MSNBC propaganda trick ever: Iraq has nuclear weapons aimed at US ghettos source said speaking on condition of anonymity... I read similar things on MSNBC hundreds of times about 10 years ago. never was dumb enough to watch Fox News seriously though, only for entertainment...

So, obviously you consider such things to be not worth listening to. Except that in this case she really did get a hold of the notebook as the defense lawyer and judge confirmed that part. They want her source fearing that it may have come from one of the cops that are meant to be witnesses. The defense lawyer thinks that it is cause for bias and wants the police officer (if it did indeed come from one of them) to be removed from the witness list hoping to get a better outcome for his client. So the fact that she has an anonymous source is actually factual. Unless you think that maybe she broke into the evidence locker at the police station and stole the notebook herself? Now wouldn't THAT be a twist!

I am absolutely not familiar with this particular case about the woman you are talking about, I was speaking in general: I noticed that the rule in the elite controlled establishment media is that you are ok to have a show if you are dumb with a talent to sound smart, but if you figure things out and start talking the REAL truth, out the door you go, because the magicians who count ratings notice that your ratings are going down.

this idiot woke up and lost his job - welcome to nutcase pile.jpg
