Dad calls cops on son...cops shoot son

All GOOD citizens who legally carry a firearm should immediately shoot anyone who is speeding, runs a redlight or commits any other moving violation in their criminal episode. It is critical they shoot the driver enough times to insure s/he is dead to have permanently ended the danger that criminal poises.

Redlight and speeding cameras should be equipped with automatic aiming full auto 1911 30.06s that are permanently disabled if removed. Upon detecting a vehicle with a driver criminally violating laws that endangers people, the 1911 would open fire on the driver thus terminating the criminal episode continuing to poise a danger to others. Emergency vehicles would have chips so the system would not activate.

I suspect that about 25% of the members of this forum should install a two-door delivery box for their residence so they can rely solely on home deliveries for all their needs and therefore never have to go outside into the terrifying, unbelievably dangerous world. Remember, when you go outside you are constant imminent danger from others. STAY INSIDE! BE SAFE!!

Calm down. Good god man.

Calm down. Good god man.

I must have lived my life wrongly. In the past as an adult I faced situations of people poising real danger to me. I did not see my only option was to kill that other person(s) because that didn't seem necessary. Rather, generally I went out of my way to not kill them. Now that I do have a badge some apparently think am supposed to kill people who poise a danger, but I don't see it that way. Maybe I'm still making the same mistake. But I don't think so. I have no desire to kill anyone. I have a strong desire not to. Even if I might feel otherwise, I contain it.

There was NO need to kill that young man, that's my point. The ONLY risk he poised was putting another dent in a squad car, nothing else. I am very much tiring of all the reasons the police MAY kill people, when the person did not deserve to be killed and it was not necessary to do so.

If a person is unwilling to accept any risks of danger whatsoever under any circumstance, that person has NO business being a law enforcement officer or a member of the military. Instead, open a virtual marketing Internet business so s/he never need go outside. Danger comes with the job. If facing any danger is intolerable to a person, do NOT opt for a career in law enforcement. Instead, open a virtual marketing Internet business so s/he never has to leave their home - which should be an underground concrete bunker.

Really, the first indication this was going to go sideways was:

James Comstock told the Des Moines Register he called the police on his son Tyler after the latter took the former's truck in retaliation for refusing to buy him cigarettes.

Domestic calls can be crazy and very dangerous for the responding officers and the surrounding community. The kid sealed his fate here.

Yeah, and if just one innocent (or the officer) had been harmed or killed by your inability to react to a judgement deficient young man with a 4300 lb weapon your career in law enforcement should be over.

This story is disturbing. A 19 year old upset over being dumped by a girlfriend - a common as dirt emotional situation concerning rejection for young people - charges off in a tizzy in his father's POS pickup truck to get cigarettes probably at a friend's house.

When his truck spins out into the grass after it escalated to a police chase, the police box him in with their cruisers. Because he won't turn off the truck, multiple rounds are fired into the truck cab at his chest. THAT REALLY SUCKS! TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. Looking at the photo, on grass the fastest that truck could have backed into that squad car was maybe 3 mph.

They could have shot out the tires, the motor, could have shot thru the door to hit that young man in the legs. Shooting him multiple times in the chest was NOT the only option.

And they KNEW the situation. This was NOT an armed criminal fleeing the scene of a crime, not an armed robber. This was a young man worked up for being dumped by a girlfriend in his dad's POS old pickup truck without permission. Nothing more.

Dollars to donuts this kid wasn't unknown to the legal system, there may be some past history of behavior that the officers were aware of that's not being seen here.

Kill every emotionally upset person. Shoot them multiple times in the chest.

Luckily, moderators dont' have that ability. How many times would they have had to shoot me dozens of times so far?

Some serious lily gilding going on here.

Word of advice: The police are assholes. Deal with your own problems and leave the dip**** overgrown bullies out of it.

When was the last time a police chase made a situation better? I'm just wondering because I can't think of a time that happened.

Sorry, I don't really care to kill 50, 100, 150 people a year.

I suspect you are entirely right and that is likely the real story. The local police knew that young man, didn't like that young man, were tired of problems he caused, preferred he'd leave - THAT is the underlying motive. One of the officers was tired of his crap so opted to kill him. The was a death penalty for wrong behavior, not shooting to stop an imminent deadly threat to anyone.

The picture in the OP link shows trees ahead of the truck. Another photo showed a cruiser right behind the truck. That truck wasn't going anywhere. One of those officers was all jacked up from the chase with a punk who had dented his cruiser in the chase and had reached the end of his rope with that young man. So he killed him. That's the story. I think you're right. It's not just about what was happening at the moment, but who that young man was.

It is common in small towns for police to know "the bad ones" and do MUCH to "encourage" them to leave. I have no problem with that. It's common here too. BUT the line for doing so STOPS at shooting punks because they are punks acting like what they are. You take them to jail every chance possible charging them with everything you can imagine. You don't gun them down.

Yeah, nice exaggeration. I'm sure it's a daily occurance for you to have someone reverse and back a truck into your cruiser in attempt to get away and then refuse to stand down when cornered - not.

Thats where I quit reading.
My only response to any of it is, "were you there?".
I am going with no you were not.

You're right. He has a criminal past.

Dad Calls Cops on Son to Teach Him a Lesson, Cops Shoot Son Dead

James said his son had his fair share of minor troubles with the law, and was distraught over a recent breakup with his girlfriend, but was in the process of turning his life around, and was working on obtaining his GED at Des Moines Area Community College.

This reminds me of a poster on DP from a long time ago. Their kid got into "some minor issues" with the law and got the option of joining the military or going to jail. I always laugh at **** like this. Parents try to minimize what their kids do and then you have jerkoffs who try to blow some of it out of proportion. For example, posing on Twitter with fake grills, smoking weed and skinny frame? Criminal. Being known to the legal system and then endangering the lives of others by running people off a road? Poor baby!

That's one of those crystal ball gazing things. Like asking how many kids are saved by jailing a pedophile. We do know that judgement impaired young reckless drivers are responsible for many a death and maiming of innocents. How many of those deaths are prevented every year by police chasing and catching the offenders, that we'll never know.

So basically they shoot an unarmed kid because he won't cut the truck off? This is overkill. Thus proving you cannot trust a government official with a deadly weapon. We can't even trust then with microphones. Maybe we SHOULD disarm police and only allow specially trained officers carry like in the UK. They can't stop shooting people.
This cop shooting is just wrong in so many ways. WTF were they thinking?

When you chase a guy endangering the lives of others does it get better or worse? Does he feel more threatened or less? How is it even possible that a high speed chase makes sense?

It's gets better for those who might have been killed or maimed by his reckless driving if left to his own devices. Btw, that's why the penalties for making the police chase you in a vehicle should include never being allowed behind the wheel of a motor vehicle again.

So when the police chase someone through town or down the interstate does that put more or less lives in danger? Come on, this isn't hard to figure out. There is no way a high speed police chase makes a situation better.

There is little significant difference between someone driving through town recklessly at 100 mph on their own and being chased. Whether and how long to pursue is a judgement call. Depending upon policy it's sometimes the officer on the scene who makes that call, sometimes an experienced incident commander.
