"American Blackout" thread

I'm talking about doing what is necessary to protect my family and myself. If that involves taking out a thief or two, so be it.

You obviously know nothing about real survival and that was one of my points in posting this thread.....to get people motivated to take responsibility for themselves during an emergency situation.

Please do so.

she has a bottle of wine dude. what more do you want. /sarcasm

The panic is what happens when you suddenly find yourself without resources that you are accustomed to. That is the panic mode setting in. People who think ahead don't panic. They are already set for what "could" happen. Do you grow and kill your own food?

The problem is you're not thinking. You're blathering on about incoherent nonsense because you're worked up. That is panic.

But you go on with the talk about shooting people because nothing says calm and collective quite like threatening to kill people online.

I see someone is dressing up as Rambo for Halloween.

No, you can take my word quite seriously. I think plenty. This thread is about contingencies and what if's. That is what planning is. You will rarely come across anyone who gets less worked up than I do. I am good at keeping my cool under duress.

What planning is not, is thinking that if the power goes down for a few days, you will kick back, enjoy some wine, and everyone will remain calm and collected.

Yeah, threatening to blow people away screams "cool under duress".

My neighborhood was under 6 feet of water exactly 1 year ago, to the day. Some houses collapsed, others burnt to the ground. Unfortunately natural disasters are far from uncommon but, fortunately, you're horribly misinformed on what typically takes place afterwards. You would do well to put down your gun and pick up a book or newspaper from time to time and educated yourself. Kicking back and enjoying some wine is exactly what we did and it was exactly the right thing to do. Long Island was very fortunate not to have someone as "cool under duress" as you exacerbating the situation with your panicking and gun fire. You're exactly the reason Second Amendment supporters like me support gun control laws.

When it really comes down to it, in a sustained emergency situation, killing would start within 3-5 days. It is estimated that most urban area grocery stores have enough food supplies on hand to feed the city for three days. In a dire situation, people get desperate, and they become little more than animals. You know it, and I know it. I don't live with the expectation that this will happen, but I do prepare for it, just in case it does. I would not want to kill someone in order for me to survive, but make no mistake, my survival instinct is just as strong as anyone's, and if I had to do it, I would.

As usual... very well said.

OK, and that would deter a hungry mob of 100-200, if not more, how?

Well we can start with the fact that I have 10K rounds of ammo at just my house. With in one mile radius I have 5 family members with similar deals. ARs with slide fire stocks will do some serious damage to a crowd.
So, send 100 people down my street.

So "doing or taking whatever I need to survive" doesn't include the possibility of dying? Get real!

I am real... who said there wasn't that possibility? Certainly not me.

Our area proved in 2004 that the killing wouldnt start in a few days. Dont take what you see on TV as gospel.

Since the Internet would go down, probably most people would rather just die anyway. What would be the point of living?

That's not what I asked. You were talking about deterrence.

Anyway, this bloodthirstiness on your part . . . well, I hope it's just bravado.

I don't do Halloween but, next weekend I'll be in camo for some deer hunting.

Is that too radical for ya? I promise we'll eat all of it.

Camo and a long rifle? Man up. Use a knife or spear. At least then you earned it.

Very interesting thread.
If someone was trying to do harm to me to get what I have, I've got no problem defending myself to their detriment. But there is no way I have it in me to bring harm to someone else just to take from them what I need. I also know I couldn't sleep at night knowing my neighbor's children went to bed cold and hungry. Ain't going to happen. Yes I am stocking up for a rainy day(s) but what I have will be shared till its gone. Not sharing would mean I was already dead and just need someone to put an end to my misery

Then we both know what will happen to thieves.

Many things happen... sometimes they are caught, sometimes killed and sometimes they kill and get away with it. That possibility rises drastically in a lawless survival situation too...

Blood thrist? Where do you people get that, just because many of us are prepared to do what ever when ever to defend home, life and family?

What would YOU do under similar a 'hungary hoards' scenario. Lay down and give them everything you have?

Finally! Some common sense and compassion. Thank you...

...and now I know who to target. ;)

No one is going to be earning anything in a civil social break down. Some will survive and some wont. I plan on surviving.

Easy to say now.
