1.8M-year-old skull gives glimpse of our evolution[w67,72]

One does not "believe" in evolution. You either accept it, based on evidence and facts and data and research, or you choose to be deliberately ignorant and not accept the overwhelming proof.

The older I get the more I come to believe that people aren't necessarily ignorant by not accepting evolution. They're being dismissive of evolution but not ignorant. Who is ignorant? Well, the general religious masses. However, I have serious doubts that the general clergy members and priesthoods do not have an understanding of evolution. The Catholic Church has all but given up on trying to attack it. Even some Protestant denominations have come to accept it. All have done so without giving up their belief in god. However, I understand why some still fight against evolution. They have an honest belief that if human development is left up to something as seemingly chaotic as evolution - then what is there left for their god?

These scientists are idiots:

The medieval era wasn't 1.8 million years ago, you can't have an ancient skull in an old village, it makes no sense. Betcha these people do global warming theories in their spare time.

It is the village that is medieval, not the skulls. No one thinks the skulls originated in the middle ages.

Nonsense! Man was made of mud from Adam, and Eve was made of his rib! This happened 6000 years ago and before that nothing ever existed irrelevant to fossil data that show that contrary! I shall just stick to this belief blindly no matter these devilish findings show me to.

If it is not in the religious books I shall not believe it, period! Evolution is not in religious books hence a true believer should not resort to plagiarism and adopt parts of scientific findings just to fit the views!
=======================

I am struggling to act like a religious guy here. How am I doing? Any good or is it the case where the true me cannot help but prevail?

and Satan planted all the fossils we've found just to fool us.

right?

right?

Ever wondered why, WHYYY LORD ALMIGHTY your "fossils" look so devilish?!?

scary fossils - Yahoo Image Search Results

Or why do you always find them buried deep inside the ground where the devil reigns?!!

hades god of underworld - Yahoo Image Search Results

Think about it?! You scientists are so smart and yet you cannot seem to link the most obvious things here! If you go down to see the devils work well HEY you may actually find them!

Dibly, dibly, dibly-dooo!

right?
Absolutely not. The skull just fell off Noah's boat. See how a silly mishap shapes our perception of history and evolution?

Not in the village, under it.

Believe vs accept. I could have used either word, I dont think it would have made an appriciateable differne. Why do you have to babble off into the ignorant rap?

To be a creationist, you have to be ignorant. You have to go out of your way to ignore the evidence.

So, If I beleive or accept or whatever other picky word you want to use that evolution occured just as science says it does and I beleive (or accept) that is how God did creation, I am still ignorant and ignoring evidence?

Well you can't believe in the bible and believe that this skull is actually 1.8 million years old. The bible's timeline back to Adam and Eve was very well detailed, and it's put at about 4,000 BC. So yes, you have to choose. Do you believe in the bible's creation story, or do you believe in evolution? Things don't evolve much in 6,000 years.

I beleive the skull is 1.8 million years old (give or take a few) and I beleive in the Bible.

You see, first you're told what you believe, and then you're told that you're an absolute fool for believing it. Ha. What could be wrong with that?

I like me, and so do I.

Are you serious? He spent this entire thread telling us what he believes, so I gave him the analysis of it. Plain and simple, you can't remain logically consistent and believe both in the bible and evolution.

If you'd like to make some arguments instead of crappy little one liners, I'll be here.

I'm in on this thread. I can't wait for the compartmentalization(s) to flow forth.

All it would take is for the creationists to produce one fossil that does not fit the pattern of evolution in a species, a transitional fossil that is the wrong age, etc. The problem with creationism is, in order to prove it, you must rely on "then, a miracle happened", an untestable, unrepeatable, unwitnessed miracle that somehow defied the laws of physics in order to happen. Produce that in a lab.

Evolution has overwhelming proof, in the fossil record, in DNA, over a century of observation, discoveries have proved prior hypothesis. The evidence is there, it happens every day. And we are still learning. If you refuse to look at and understand and accept the proofs of evolution, you are, by definition, ignorant.

I dont care about proof, I have faith. Proof would actually destroy faith. Let me just explain one more time, I completely believe in accept or whatever other word you want to use in evolution just as science describes it. I just have faith that is how God does it. Please point out where I said I dont look at, understand or accept any aspect of evolution. I think you only have arguments for short earth creationist and are dissappointed there are so few of them.

Faith is nice but it is not science, faith and dogma based programs should not be taught in school. If you want to go to church and believe in a 6000 year old world, I am fine with that, but don't pollute our kids in taxpayer funded schools with dogma disguised as science, not a hard concept.

Who you talking to?

Anyone that tries to get creationism taught as science in a public school. (BTW, TX just rejected the attempts to get creation science put in their textbooks)

Not sure how God came into this discussion or religion, but I think this find is absolutely amazing. It puts a big haze over the out of Africa 1 million years ago theory, and to me, and many others here it adds fuel to the fire that homo lived everywhere, which provides a path for speculation about interbreeding and intermixing of various homo species into homo erectus, and eventually homo sapiens. IN a nut-shell it suggests quite eloquently that we modern day humans share a mix of various genomes from perhaps several failed ancestral hominids. Essentially, modern day humans are all mutts. ;)

Tim-

I beleive schools should teach science. I took my kids to chruch. TX is backwards.

I heartily agree with that!
