BOSTON, Oct 10 (Reuters) - An elementary school in New Hampshire has banned the age-old schoolyard game of tag, saying students sometimes tag each other too forcefully.

"The other issue with tag is that students are running and not paying attention to where they are going," Patricia Beaulieu, principal of the Charlotte Avenue Elementary School in Nashua, said in a notice on the school's website.

The action, which followed several playground injuries attributed to the game, was criticized by some parents.

"Tag is one of the oldest playground games anywhere," Bill Chisholm, 43, told Nashua's Telegraph newspaper. "To ban tag is just ridiculous."

A school district in Port Washington, New York, this year banned children from using hard balls, like baseballs or soccer balls, during recess and has made it policy to distribute soft, spongy Nerf balls instead. (Writing by Richard Valdmanis)

So here is my response, it is only logical to now ban running and blockade all stairs as every single year there are hundreds of incidents of children tripping and falling down stairs. If the school building is more than one story taxpayers but vote for it's destruction and pay for new one story only buildings. Shoes must be inspected for the correct types so as to help prevent falls and a restriction on how many books a child may be carry at once in order to prevent shoulder or back injuries. All students must have hair lengths not exceeding two inches to avoid getting their hair caught in doors and windows and finally no dresses may be worn as it reveal leg portions turning innocent boys in to rapists.

Wtf are they going to do when they hit middle school and football starts?

A lot of schools in the north east classify organized sports as intramural sports and they're only available after school and if your grades are high - if they have it at all before high school.

Sounds ridiculous and weak. They need to grow a pair and realize from time to time someone is going to get a boo-boo.

In a related story children have been banned from being children

Children run, play, climb, and get bruises and bumps, occasionally a broken bone.
the problem is, people are sue happy. A kid gets injured, and the parents see it as an opportunity to make some money, so the school, or more likely its insurer, insists that the kids can't play tag.

The same thing has happened to see saws, and is happening to swings in a lot of schools.

It's oh so much better if kids don't run around. That way, they'll only have to worry about obesity, and no one can sue over that one (yet).

Helicopter parents. Their precious little angel got a boo boo at school. Flip out. School forced to do this lame crap.

Been going this way for decades. Soon the kids will all be dressed for football practice... in class! Body armor will keep them safer!

One of the reasons I can't wait to get out of New England. Crap like this is pretty common. Just saw another one where a gear in a Massachusetts HS lost her position as Captain of the volleyball team and suspended for 5 games because she gave a friend a ride home that was too drunk to drive. The school cited their zero tolerance for alcohol policy as the reason, the girl was at a party that had alcohol. Pretty f-ing stupid, guess the girl should have just let the girl drive home drunk, thats the lesson there.

Why is it that tag is banned yet priests are allowed to walk around schools and window shop? It is sort of like not getting a goldfish because you don't want your kids to deal with death while they play with the family's pit bull and rottweiler collection. Oh well sucks to be the last kid who was it. They will have cooties forever now.

Are you serious? How incredibly mean spirited your post is?
