I just want to say that the way some of the people in this town treated this little girl is despicable, and they should be SHAMED IMO. They must be some really rotten people. Nobody knows the details except for the people involved, but regardless for them to treat an alleged victim like that is really, really disgusting.

And NO not all small high school football towns are like that. I happened to grow up in a town just like that, and the people are nothing like that in my home town. They would never talk of a young girl who was allegedly raped in such a manner.

The problem here is you are viewing it through your biased glasses.

"They" treated her through their own bias, that she was a lying false accuser.
Under those conditions, their treatment is not disgusting.

I'm not viewing anything through a "bias." It's poor form to pick on an alleged victim of a crime, regardless of how you feel personally.

There is absolutely no proof either way. It's he said, she said. Anyone in the town who harassed this girl is a douche. IF she was lying, there is still no reason for it. That would come out at trial.

There is evidence that she lied. Period.
Her mother says she is a liar. Period.
There is evidence that it was consensual. Period.

As for the alleged harassment.
It may have been due harassment because she is lying.
It is absurd to say it isn't justified if she was lying. Her lies hurt the town as well as the boy.
Not only would it be justified, but expected.

None of that matters. There is no reason to harass her. That should be considered criminal conduct to harass an alleged crime victim. You have no proof that she lied either.

The evidence is that she lied. The evidence is that it was consensual.
That means the evidence indicates that there was no rape to speak of.

Townspeople reacting to someone trying to hurt their town is normal and expected.

Have the laws against statutory rape been repealed? How does a 14 year old girl 'consent' to sex? How low in age would you go? 12? 10? 6?

No it is not. These are things to be worked out in a court of law, not by people who only have PART of the story and jump to conclusions. That's not how civilized people behave.

They choose to leave. Just as they could have chosen to stay.
I believe they chose wisely though with her daughter being a liar and all.
And what was originally reported as a mystery no longer is as it was investigated. Get informed.

And her lies does and has hurt the town.

She is still a child, mentally, emotionally and physically. Fourteen-year-old brains are not fully developed yet. She is a child, and you are patting the townspeople on the back for emotionally abusing a child, who probably already has some mental issues to begin with. How absolutely pathetic and heartless.

Perhaps you should learn how to type a sentence that actually makes sense. No circles here. It doesn't matter if she wasn't a victim "in their eyes." They are not the court of law.

If she is falsely accusing, that is for the court to decide.

The townspeople were wrong to harass an alleged crime victim, regardless if YOU or others think she is lying. That is for the court to decide. We don't do vigilantism.

Whether Missouri defines statutory rape as under 14 or not, a 14-year old is still a child. And many states set the age of statutory rape far higher: Statutory Rape Laws by State
