Thousands of veterans marched on the veteran memorials, namely the World War 2 memorial in Washington, DC, with Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and also Sarah Palin joining the veterans. They tore down the barriers and chanted “Tear down these walls!”. Vets were protesting the closure of the memorials during the government shutdown and the White House’s attempt to proactively keep vets out to make the shutdown “more painful” than it has to be for ordinary Americans.

After WWI some vets marched on Washington... how did that work out? IIRC the regular Army obeyed their commanders and joined the police in clearing away the vet's camp city.

Obama throwing vets under the bus, who'd of thunk such a thing could happen.

Actually, not me. Though I'm not thrilled at how Obama turned out as a president, as a legislator he was always at the forefront in caring for vets.

Well as of now he is locking vets out of their memorials and he even delayed death benefits. Can it get worse than THAT?

I can't believe that law enforcement made the mistake of thinking this was a liberal protest.

I have little sympathy for these people in this situation. These veterans are being exploited by opportunistic politicians, and they're breaking the law. National Parks and memorials have been closed during previous shutdowns; this is nothing new. Being a veteran doesn't give you the right to break federal laws. MacArthur and Patton had to teach this lesson the hard way to the Bonus Army back in the 30's.

Obama like the Democrat Party only care about getting the veterans votes. After seeing that Obama in 2012 couldn't even get 20 % of the military vote and not much better with getting the veterans vote, Obama has put vets on his hit list.

Why do you think Obama allowed illegal aliens to have a rally last Tuesday demanding amnesty, citizenship and free stuff on the closed National Mall ? Because Obama knows the vast majority of these leeches would vote the Democrat ticket.

There were several, which one are you referring to? Some were very peaceful.

True, memorials and parks have been closed in the past but still American citizens were never denied access to these memorials and parks during a government shutdown. The only thing that was closed at these memorials were the information centers. There still was access.

Who put the policy in to allow Vietnam Vets to claim benefits from Agent Orange Oct. 30, 2010??
This has certainly added to the backlog, but for a good reason..
We're all better than using the Vets..
For instance, I've been thrashed by fellow Dems for calling Cantor a Cancer since the election of 2008..
Whether I am right or wrong, this kind of sh!t by me is also out-of-line..

The monuments were never barricaded before.

I sincerely doubt you had much of a problem with the OWS folks violating laws.

i think Vets are fed the **** up. Most of America has done jack ****e for their country. **** y'all.

Looking for deserving people, look towards Vets and their immediate families. Ask Hannity to step the **** up, or Cheney or Bush or Obama or Reid. Don't give me this **** about memorials. It is far, far, far, far, from political. Leave real Americans out of it, the rest of you - civilians who haven't done jack - **** off and shut up.

The one that camped out in a tent city, was cleared away by the order of Douglas MacArthur and lead by Patton and Eisenhower.

Those protestors were protesting to get their "bonus" for fighting in WWI, which would of been given to them in 1945, But given the circumstances of the depression, they needed the money now not later.

Now, the veterans simply want access restored to THEIR monuments and King Obama is doing what he can to stop them.

So, the Million Vet March had about 200 angry white guys, some carrying Confederate flags, and some with the flags of the militia group "Oath Keepers"
On Friday the planned trucker shutdown of DC had approximately 30 trucks all spread out, causing absolutely no shut down.

Shine on you whack-a-doodle's. The fringe is always unintentionally funny.

Well to be fair that monument belongs to no one group. I saw several interviews done of vets and they claim a special privilege to go into the area closed off to the public.

When it suits some on the hard right vets are just regular people due no special consideration past a mumbled, 'Thank you for your service'.

Now the vets are forcing an issue the right agrees with and it's GAWD Bless them vets... let them go where no others are allowed.

I can understand the frustration with closed off areas in DC, but no one groups gets special privileges- that should include Congress and running that place/pay for all those aides.

(FYI, I know using KING is all the TP rage these days but a KING would have blocked the access)

I doubt you had much problems with the OWS folks being tear gassed...

The WWII Memorial and Yellowstone Park are photo ops for both sides to use. There are far more severe problems with the ongoing bluff game by the politicians.

Photo ops as these attract the likes of Palin to get in front of a camera to bark a few lines and really doesn't change anything for anybody.

The Veteran's groups that planned this march asked for all Vets regardless of political leaning to join them to take down the barricades around memorials to verterans of all wars in retaliation to the current administration using them as pawns in the current political battles. I love how they took the barricade fences down around the WWII memorial, then carried and stacked them up at the White House entrance. Obama and the Democrats tried the same ploy over sequestration and at that time closed the White House to all school groups around the country from taking any tours. That one backfired on them and so has this one.
