House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures[W:120]

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

"Morall high ground? What moral high ground has he displayed? He started out in the Sequester by preventing school children from visiting the White House. Many of those children often worked hard by holding bake sales, etc, to fund their trips to DC. And the Dems, who are constantly exhorting us to "think of the children," went silent on this. The White House belongs to American people, not whoever happens to occupy it at any given time, which seems to have escaped the current occupant. He does allow friends to visit him there, though, with bands, singers, and other entertainment, and food provided for them.

Now we are seeing parks and monuments, which also belong to the people, closed, even when donors offer to pay the salaries of the people who work there, to keep them open. And declaring 1100 miles of ocean off-limits to people who like to go boating might take the prize for most childish idea ever thought of. Are they planning on aresting people for visiting their property, and on what grounds?? That should be interesting!

So the trend continues and the games go on, but history books will tell future readers all about it! That's guaranteed! What a legacy, but not an unexpected one, when his background is considered!

Greetings, radcen. :2wave:
Exactly my point. If you listen to the Administration (and they're sycophant supporters) they are trying to claim a moral high ground. Truth is, it's not theirs to claim.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Speaking of "high ground" and the Administration's lack of it here, it's funny that rallies they're sympathetic to can still happen on the "closed" National Mall:

And the President's favorite golf course is still open on an air force base, while grocery stores at army bases have been closed due to the shutdown:

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Whats not left?

Am I to take from this that all of the bill should be negotiated away?

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

This is what it means to shut down non essential things, and that means you do not get to do what you want with their land. This is what a government shutdown is. This is what the republicans want, but they also want to have all the stuff they like be there. This is what you get. Deal or fold.

Did you just say their land?

Whos land exactly?

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

It would be nice if the federal government was consistent in what is or is not shut down. However that doesn't change the fact that those homes were on federal lands and therefore the residents can be kicked off the federal property.

But there is no reason for it.

Why should you think that? There is a legitimate question about why these various monuments didn't close during "government shutdowns" during competent Administrations.

This is rapidly becoming my favorite rightwing meme. Next to the teleprompter and vacation meme, it's the goofiest yet.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

There is nothing to run. So how does perceived bad behavior by Republicans justify going to extra lengths to make sure people cant use public spaces which cost the govt nothing?

Of course it costs money to run monuments... For upkeep, policing the areas, etc.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

What the administration CHOOSES to close is an indicator of their motives and priorities.
The administration didnt choose what places get to keep open and which ones close.... Its not like when the clock struck midnight a document went to Obama and he got to check which services the federal gov provides get to remain open and closed...

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

As it is not, you are blowing smoke.

Uhh yes they did. Did you not read any news source or anything and they listed which gov services remain open and which ones get to close.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

They don't need to cone off a public parking space. It simply is not needed to be done. Even you can admit that right? Some of this stuff is just plain stupid, there is no reason to shut down a parking lot.
I think in general the whole gov shutdown is stupid.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Hey look kids, there he goes again, wrong as usual.
The Dems shut down the Government.

And he can't tell the difference between "Monuments" and the "Government".

Are you STILL pretending that government monuments aren't staffed?

Oh for fun!

This is such a wonderful talking point. Pure teabaggery.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Bachmann isn't a Tea Party type - she just glomed onto the movement to up her profile in the primaries - she saw how Palin worked it and tried to replicate it with zero success. I look more to the relatively silent types found in the tea party caucus in the Republican House caucus who simply stand their ground when it comes to spending and debt issues.

Somehow, someway, the tea partiers always get to the No True Scotsman fallacy.

If vandalism is the concern for closing the state parks, please explain how somebody could vandalize the ocean.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

You're still posting nonsense, so the farce continues.

Perfect teabaggery. The GOP shuts down the government, and calls for an investigation for why it isn't open, and CanadaJohn calls it nonsense to point out the farce.

It's perfection.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

:naughty
Taking it off the table is capitulation. Not negotiation or compromise.

The Dems are refusing.
Demanding the Republicans capitulate to negotiate is absurd. (and highly unlikely the Dems would then negotiate, especially as there would be no leverage.)
Now is the time for negotiations, and the Dems are refusing.

I agree. The Democrats should sit down and demand that the GOP raise taxes on the rich, cut military spending to the bone and repeal Citizens United.

Let's really negotiate, since the GOP wants to negotiate legislation and not the debt ceiling

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Uhh yes they did. Did you not read any news source or anything and they listed which gov services remain open and which ones get to close.
Wrong again.
You stated; " everyone knew this was part of the deal when the gov shuts down..."
No they didn't. And they didn't because it is not.

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Wrong again.
You stated; " everyone knew this was part of the deal when the gov shuts down..."
No they didn't. And they didn't because it is not.

Your perplexity at not getting government services after your party shut down the government is both perplexing and highly amusing.

I love this goofy meme.

Yes they did! From the beginning! Here is an article found before the gov shut down: "But many federal agencies will shut their doors and send their employees home, from the Environmental Protection Agency to hundreds of national parks."
The national parks are non essential and have been that way since 1995 as also stated in the article. So in short yes we did know and so did all the politicians. Absolutely everything you need to know about how the government shutdown will work

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Are you STILL pretending that government monuments aren't staffed?
Are you still pretending that the open Memorial was staffed by anyone affected by the shutdown?

I agree. The Democrats should sit down and demand that the GOP raise taxes on the rich, cut military spending to the bone and repeal Citizens United.
Oy vey!
All which hurts this country.

The Democrats should sit down and demand that the GOP raise taxes on the rich,
They are eventually going to do that anyway. And when they have enough power they will.

cut military spending to the bone
:doh
A constitution requirement that would hurt this country.
What an absurd thing to suggest.

repeal Citizens United.
Repeal a court case? :doh
That's funny.

Let's really negotiate, since the GOP wants to negotiate legislation and not the debt ceiling

Perfect teabaggery. The GOP shuts down the government, and calls for an investigation for why it isn't open,
You keep stating this ridiculous meme, all while knowing you are wrong.
The Dems are the one who shut it down by not negotiating or cooperating.
And the call for investigation is for that which should not have been closed.
So stop with your ridiculous games.

Your perplexity at not getting government services after your party shut down the government is both perplexing and highly amusing.
As it was the Dems that shut it down, you can stop telling your lies.

And as I have pointed it out to you before, I am not a republican, so stop lying in that regard also.
They are not "my" party. Nor is the tea Party "my" party.

Dude. You have failed big time.
A blog does not dictate what is or isn't shut down.
A blog does not say "everyone knew" as you said.

The fact remains that there was no legitimate reason to shut down the open air memorial. None.
It was unprecedented and has thoroughly been explained as to why in this thread.

So you admit that the government is shut down, but you blame the Democrats. So what are you going to investigate exactly?

Looks like your memes are getting all confused.

Looks like you are confused, as you were just told "what" and "why".

Re: House Republicans seek probe of D.C. monument closures

Dude. You have failed big time.
A blog does not dictate what is or isn't shut down.
Yes because the Washington Post isnt a "reliable source"

A blog does not say "everyone knew" as you said.
Alright since a Washington Post blog isnt reliable or whatever
"Parks, Museums, and Monuments. Closure of 368 National Park Service sites
(loss of 7 million visitors) reportedly occurred, with loss of tourism revenues to
local communities; and closure of national museums and monuments (reportedly
with an estimated loss of 2 million visitors) occurred" http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL34680.pdf

Do i think its stupid? Yes. Do i think people knew it was going to happen if they paid attention to the news? Yes. Do i think we should just open them just cuz? No. I instead believe open up everything instead.
