Agree with Reid 100%. You can't start to pick and choose what you want to fund at this point when the government is shut down and it is harming our country. We need a clean bill that funds the whole government.

The republicans are just doing this for PR and nothing more and it disgusts me that these kids are being used as political pawns by them. It's sickening.

How is this shutdown harming the country?

What mandatory spending budget items aren't happening?

Did you get your mail today?

Are SS checks not being issued?

I can go on and on.

Which he DOESN'T have authority to do.

Well, in all honesty, I see that as a grey area. As the executor of law, he has some say in how it is implemented. What I find hypocritical is the republicans are holding out for the say 1 year that Obomba granted his rich corporate buddies. Shouldn't the people also get this 1 year extension?

I suspect you are correct. If we start cherry picking which parts of government to fund, we might decide that there are some we don't want to fund and they would go away.

No truer words spoken, and this is what scares Democrats completely.

Agreed. Leave the exchanges open, but delay the individual mandate for a year. Also, kill the tax on medical devices and the waiver for Congresscritters and staff - let the chefs eat the same crap they are trying to feed the rest of us.

I never liked gReid. I find him among the most dishonest politicians in office.
Dishonest, corrupt, unscrupulous, crooked... he's everything a good Democrat aspires to become.

When I first started reading this thread I thought there wouldn't be anybody in here that would defend Harry throwing kids with cancer under the bus, nobody in here is that mean spirited. Apparently I was wrong.

Weaselly, ugly, myopic, short, poorly dressed, bad hair, soiled underwear, chronic nasal congestion, reedy voice, Satanic, part lizard....

You just have to understand that Reid is standing on principle. If it kills a few kids - no big deal. They were sick anyway. He's, ah, putting the country first. We have anarchists in the Senate, for Gawd's sake.

It may not be in the constitution but it doesn't make what the republicans are doing right. They had plenty of time to negotiate a budget over the past year, the democrats have been wanting to negotiate on this and the republicans just flat out refused to show up. Now when the government is being held hostage and vital services are going undone they want to debate every little thing and vote piece by piece to bring things back online?

That just makes absolutely no sense and are abandoning their duty to govern.

YS, I don't know where you get your material (although I can guess) but you're mistaken ... observe ... from March of 2013

"The first budget from Senate Democrats in four years includes nearly $1 trillion in new taxes but would not balance the budget."

More evidence of early stages of dementia or senility. Yesterday he's bashing people and today's he's suggesting a more civil tone. I think the democrats internal polling isn't telling them what they want to hear.
Wow. Well for whatever else he is, we know he's got a large pair - albeit intensely shriveled.

When you take a demented ideology and implant it in a senile body with a corrupt character and despicable personality, you'll get the likes of a Harry Reid every time --- and sadly, as you note, that's also a formula which attracts the Democrat vote.

I never understood such attractions, or that of democrats admiring racist democrats like Truman and Byrd.

Is it only OK to be a racist if you are democrat?

I couldn't help but think of this with the gReid thread. Back in August, gReid effectively accused republicans of being racist.

To be honest, I don't understand it either.

But it seems to me such "traits" cater to an entitlement mentality, to people who believe themselves victims, who sneer at the notion of personal responsibility, having been taught altogether too well that it's their right to expect others to take care of them, that they don't have to work hard as others did to attain the "American dream." --- such attitudes are not only anathema to us, but wholly foreign...

Maybe not. Thoreau observed (back in the 19th century) that most men have the souls of slaves, and that sort of personality would eagerly grab onto "victimhood" as an escape from the burden of personal responsibility. Democrats, whose ideal society is composed of three levels - sheep, sheep dogs, and shepherds - understand how to herd these personalities. The sheep, secure in the belief that they will be "taken care of," can then be sheared and slaughtered without much difficulty.

I like that - "sheep, sheepdogs, and shepherds." Maybe you're right, that it isn't an issue of having to be taught such evil traits, but that such traits are inherent in many already. Perhaps the reason for teaching er, indoctrination then is to inculcate the trait in a more determined manner?

Yep. As with other types of livestock, it's all in the breeding.

Wow...

I now understand democrats!

Thank-You.
