Putin uses NYT Op-Ed to warn US against Syria strike

It has never been PROVEN that president Assad used chemical weapons on his civilians.

It has never been proven that fast & fuzzy gun "loss", the IRS targetting of special groups or cash for cronies, like Solyndra, was the responsibility of anyone high up either. It will likely never be proven that high ranking gov't officials ordered anything bad to be done - that stuff simply happens. ;)

Russia supports Assad to the bitter end. They have massive interests in protecting Syria and Iran.

Putin basically made Obama his bitch in all this. Now he's spiking the football in the NY Times.

And the US has massive interests in protecting Israel which is no friend to the ME, SO WHAT is the difference?

In other words, attack Syria on unproven charges. Very nice.

The difference is, Putin has no intentions to disarm anything. He basically just told Obama to meet him in the schoolyard after school, and Obama cowered like the coward he is.

That Op-ed has to just be burning Obama up inside. It's such a lack of respect from Putin, who sees Obama as nothing but a waterboy.

this doesn't square with you liking post 16
How so?
Assad is going to do what Putin wants him to. In exchange for weapons and maybe even boots on the ground.
But it still is making sense from the Russian side.
I think his OP ED is about as close to a real warning of hostilities as you can get.
And where is the signed agreement that Assad will do any of it?

Not a single person I know in real life is for strikes or invasion of Syria. 0%.

Is this honestly how you gauge public opinion?

Assad is going to do what Putin wants him to. In exchange for weapons and maybe even boots on the ground.

You think Russia might supply Assad with troops?

I can't imagine any foreign leader having the balls to do this to our previous presidents, not even Carter.

It is such a gross lack of respect. Can you imagine a U.S. president condescendingly addressing the leader of Russia or China in their home media?

I for one, very much believe that Putin wants Assad to turn over his chemical weapons for destruction. And I believe he will work toward that end. Assad cannot have any credibility if he uses them or fails to secure them and the rebels get them and use them again. Putin understands this. The thing is, if the US would just get the **** out of the way, Putin would handle this and keep his ally in line. It is the US's covert activity that has prolonged the war, costing more innocent lives and frustrated president Assad's ability to effectively fight his own war on terror.

What the US did to Russia with regards to Libya was a gross lack of respect. The US hasn't earned Putins respect.

What is your idea of "in line"?
Kill another 100K with conventional weapons or another 1400 with chemical weapons?

I want a link that gives credibility to your clairvoyance that allows you to read Putin's mind. If you cannot provide a link, then consider this post to state categorically that you are full of crap. If you can provide documentation for your ability to read minds, I apologize.

The link is the damn NY Times Op-ed. That shows a tremendous lack of respect of Obama. This was a public flipping-off of Obama, and I'd bet Putin is having a good belly laugh over this today.

There was a time when respect of America was a given. Putin would never have done this to either of the Bushes, Clinton, Reagan, etc. No way.

Putin doesn't see Obama as a president. He sees him as the valet.

Come on Crue, again, IT HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN that president Assad used chemical weapons on his citizens, and secondly, had the US kept out from the beginning, there wouldn't be 100K dead and the situation would have been over long ago. It is largely the US's fault that it has lasted as long as it has and that there are as many dead as there is.

wait a minute. how have we been involved in syria!

and maybe why the war has lasted so long is because Russia is supplying weapons and ammo to the Assad regime.

maybe Russia should spend more of its money on helping the Syrian refugees who have been displaced by the civil war, rather then funneling weapons into the country to prolong the conflict.

I agree that anyone really know who lit off the chems.
I disagree that we are somehow at fault.

Then you would loose your bet. Putin IS genuinely concerned and clearly wishes to defuse the tinder box we have. Along with China they have repeatedly warned that a US attack on Syria will explode into the entire region and are desperate to avoid that. And what is this **** about respect you keep talking. 10-12 days ago their was a joint US/Israeli missile test in the eastern Med. because both countries failed to follow protocol and inform other nations of the drill, Russia went to full alert before the US Navy shot the missiles down. It had appeared that missiles were headed for Syria. Do you see any lack of respect there? Perfectly fine for the US to punk Putin in some people's minds.

Don't know where you've been but "respect" for the US has been in decline for sometime now, and for good and obvious reasons to many of us.

Seriously, your unaware of the covert work of the US in Syria from the beginning? Really!

maybe if it is not the united states concern to interfere in Syria problems, neither should Russia be supplying weapons to anyone in syria.

at least the united states has contributed more aid to the Syrian refugees then Russia has.

Syria IS Russia's ally, how can you compare Russian involvement with US involvement?

Gawd, Obama and Kerry really got clobbered in the political arena with this one. Putin put lotsa egg all over both their silly faces.

The idjits walked right into the trap with their BS claims about 'certain knowledge' of just who let the gas out.

Can't help but laugh at the hapless fools, and congratulations to Putin for a major victory in diplomacy.

People are so desperate to believe such crap. It's unreal.
