'Gasland’ Director Confronted on NPR Show

Yes there are.... Do a google on problems with Fracking and drinking water. Again, I'm not saying that we should abandon it, but to claim it's 100% safe and there are no issues is just plain dishonest.

That information isn't correct. Fracking at 10,000%+ feet uisn't going to effect a water zone at 300 feet.

Be careful what you read. Just because it!s on the internet doesn't mean it's true.

Yes.... if anything is done stupidly without precaution, it has consequences.

Sometimes things NOT done stupidly can have consequences. I'm not saying to stop it, but to call it safe without any issues is being dishonest.

That is a lie - there are problems with fracking.

We are dealing with them right now.

Educate yourself instead of just parroting others.

What problems?

I would never call it safe without any issues. I'm saying it is safe if the appropriate precautions are taken, obviously.

I'm well aware of that, but there are issues with it and drinking water that do not come out of an internet article. And you cannot make that guarantee that it won't affect it and you know it. There are issues that can come about (and have).

And one that hasn't been answered yet. So there are still issues.

I'm quite confident that it will be resolved. Either the companies will figure it out, or they will get slammed with a lawsuit or two for hundreds of millions of dollars. Then they will figure it out.

You can't make the guarantee that you won't get hit by a drunk driver the next time you're going in to work. Does that mean you aren't willing to drive?

Let's see, getting hit by ONE drunk driver or poluting a WHOLE communities drinking water supply. Yeah, I think they are different. I'm not afraid of drunk drivers killing a whole community. I am concerned about a communities drinking water supply.

Nothing is 100% safe, nothing. My problem with the anti fracking movement is that it has become yet another political football. I live in an area where fracking is prevalent and have had a number of conversations with those opposed to it. Not all of there objections are invalid and yet most of them appear to be arrived at emotionally instead of rationally. The problem with Google is that too many of us regard what comes up in the first page as gospel. I admit to falling into the same trap, that is why it is so important to be reasonable and educated in our thought processes.

Drinking water doesnt exist at 10,000 feet and that's a fact.

40,000 dead a year due to auto accidents. If the fracking industry had even 1% of that number they would be sued up the ass.

Point is documentary's are supposedly accurate where films are accepted as fiction. Comparing the two is apples and oranges.

Not at all.

If you want to be naive, that is your business.

There are no laws governing rules about film content.

This it is happening in Eastern OH right now.

I say frack baby, frack.

I say you can drink the fracked water. Leave our water alone.

In any case, fracking raises some environmental concerns that bear research, and in the meantime we should proceed cautiously. Fracking obviously has incredible energy benefits for this country, but we need to know the downside.

Why is it that conservatives just don't want real facts?

The problem is most people assume documentary's are fact based so when they are not it becomes propaganda and that is exactly what all these left wing documentary's are.

Agreed.

Most folks are incapable of disseminating facts from any communication.

I never get upset about slanted news or communication, as my BS filter is always on high.

Can't trust anyone these days......

There are still questions in regards to how it affects drinking water. Regardless, not 100% safe.

Assume no fracking within 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00,000,000 miles of a drinking well. Without testing, assure me the water is 100% safe for consumption. That's right, you can't.

The operative word being "real". Of course we're intetested in real facts. It's the fabricated BS that we reject.

So, you got any real facts? "Facts" that don't defy physics, that is.

The water wells that have methane in them had methane in them before the fracing started.

Uh, yeah, the real facts are that the companies are pumping chemicals, often unidentified proprietary chemicals, into aquifers or near aquifers. So research is in order so that we can regulate, monitor and improve on any practices that might threaten water supplies.

Only a conservative would find that problematical. It's a consequence of knownothingism.

That's why they often drill near them. Wells are often naturally polluted by rising methane bubbles. Methane can also be cleared from your water by installing a filter onto it when you draw it up. Perhaps the fracking companies can provide one?

The water wells that have methane in them had methane in them before the fracing started.

Methane really isn't the biggest issue, but I see you want to divert attention from what is.

Sorry, but that is a flat out lie. If it was safe there would be ZERO issues with it. Now, don't get me wrong, there are risks with EVERYTHING dealing with oil and gas and I'm not on the "Let's not do it" bandwagon, but to call it safe is a flat out lie.

There are no serious issues surrounding fracking. The farmers who own the land are begging for the wells to be built so they can keep their farms.

All of the information in Gasland is a lie
