F.B.I. says it doesn't need warrant to use drones

You are aware that there are frequencies in the spectrum that would "see" through walls... PLUS the NSA is listening to everything you do...

So, why bother?? Let's just go back to serfdom, scrap the constitution and all vestiges of freedom, and clearly alot of people will be much happier. So long as you get to keep your video games, sports games and or alcohol, what else does a person need??

Oh, and I almost forgot, there are drones that are about the size of a dragonfly, some smaller, that COULD get into your house and most would likely not be able to tell the difference...
Quick run ....
I just heard there is a sale on aluminum foil fedoras at JC Penny's ...
If you hurry you can protect your thought waves by tonight!:lamo

Oh, I understood what he was trying to say. I was just wondering how delusional a person would have to be to think my comment had anything to do with a totalitarian government.

Well, some delusional people think that a Stasi is antithesis to freedom...

But how else are we supposed to protect our freedom if we don't abolish freedom??

What about the new Balloon drones that are going to be watching over Washington D.C.? I am wondering what people think of those.

Haha, it's all so funny, a new stasi state is being built all around you, with technology to make the nazi Germans look like dysfunctional morons... And you think a bit of tinfoil is going to help anything??

You're right. Tinfoil hasn't helped some people avoid mental malfunctions due to hysterical hyperboles.

It's all part of the same thing... Total information awareness.

They want to know, or to be able to figure out, everything about everyone at any time. It's in the patriot act.

That's really the problem with aggregation. As the NSA builds a facility to hold zetabytes of information, the government expands collection and recording for the purpose of massive data mining. And as they aggregate more and more, the effects become more and more stifling. On any one individual level it doesn't seem that bad, but when the system is evaluated as a whole we see the complete destruction of the 4th amendment and other aggressive, draconian policing methods. And they will only gain in aggressiveness and tyranny if left unchecked. This is the natural course of all unrestrained government.

No no, you missed it... It's a good thing. The constitution and freedom are archaic concepts that were brought into effect only after thousands o years of uppity peasants thinking that they deserved a better life.

We need to undo that damage and keep the majority of humanity under an iron grip in perpetuity.

Your incredulity aside, there are nano drones.

Google it.

Do I need a warrant to put a CCTV cam in my business? Does the govt need a warrant to put one in a courtroom, or other govt building?

Does a cop need a warrant to walk around and look at things?

Do I need a warrant to put a CCTV cam in my business?
No, its your property.

Does the govt need a warrant to put one in a courtroom, or other govt building?
No, because they are on government property.

Does a cop need a warrant to walk around and look at things.
Yes, if it requires entering private property without permission.

A drone flying at legal height for manned aircraft is probably a legal search.

A drone flying at a lower level (than a manned aircraft can) and peeping in windows and otherwise seeing things that can not be seen by a manned aircraft or from the street should require a warrant.

In addition to the privacy issue, there will also be noise, safety and other nuisance issues if drones proliferate. We may even see corporate drones following you from the store to your home to spy on your consumption and lifestyle for marketing purposes if we don't limit their use severely.

I analyzed data from drones and even aided in the piloting of several over the U.S. several years ago. Then, I did not really see a problem with what we were doing, though I did find the bulk of our orders rooted in paranoia; but now, from my understanding, the usage has nearly quadrupled in the number of drones in the air, domestically, at any given time. I would be interested to see if any security threats really warrant such activity.

Nice. Then all they need is the proper optics platform for analog zoom, reading other wavelengths, etc. and they'll be able to see and record everything; even inside buildings.

....You do not have any legitimate expectation of privacy outdoors....

That is not true. If you have access to land that is not in public view, then you have a right to privacy. It is more of a gray area, if only one or two neighbor can see you when you are outdoors. You only lose your expectation of privacy if it is unreasonable to think you have one, such as when you are obviously within public view.

People sure are willing to give up their few remaining rights.

you should probably buff up on a little case law and not rely on that. you might be surprised at what you find is not considered private.

So can helicopters and police officers.

And they get in a whole lot of trouble for doing so without a warrant.

Look, they're probably correct, under current law, and since we've been too damn lazy to set a privacy amendment to the Constitution, they don't need a warrant. But they should and we should make it so they should.

Government will always declare itself free of restrictions until it comes into contact with laws or dissenting voices that restrain it. That's the nature of government.

It's sad to see so many people operating under the assumption that the government is always the good guy that will do the right thing, so there's no need to question an automatic expansion of power. It is the plight of our nation.

I believed they used infrared to find that Boston terrorist under a boat in a backyard.
