Federal court halts Christian prayers at North Carolina county meetings [W:656]

So there is nothing wrong with endorsing a religion. Good, then nothing wrong with what the county was doing. Move on.

Wrong? Those are subjective terms. Yes, it was wrong for them to do so. Was it illegal for them to do so? No.

You should very well understand that just because something is legal, doesn't mean it isn't wrong.

Are Satanists peaceful?

In their eyes perhaps; not my call...the point is what if this was a different religion, even satanists, people would go ape shyt.

So I'm not allowed to practice my religion in a public school building?

Did I say that? No. However, you are NOT allowed to force your students to listen to your prayers in your classroom.

You said "yes, but..."

So I'm not allowed to practice my religion in a public school building?

You aren't allowed to have the school sponsor it.

Just because you don't agree with their views, which by the way I don't support, doesn't mean they don't have the same right as you.

This is where your worldview fails. There are two forces in this world, good and evil. Satanists embody evil, violence, hatred, etc.

The world would be a better place without that kind of thing.

You aren't allowed to have the school sponsor it.

If a group of teachers get together to pray in one of our classrooms before school starts, is that the school "sponsoring" or "endorsing" a religion?

If it is not illegal, then why are they stopping it? Hmmm.... Sounds like a violation on the court's part...

Yes, and it's mine. Mine has a hammer, yours was nailed to the cross any questions?

You know that Jesus loves you. Do you know Jesus Christ?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

No. But that's not equivalent to what this county did.

I'm not a lawyer for that interpretation. I don't see it as being illegal. However, there are many things that I feel aren't illegal that are deemed so. My opinion is the court overtepped it's bounds on this, but then law is very tricky that way and isn't black and white.

As a public school teacher, if a few of us get together every morning to pray for our kids, are we endorsing a religion?

Yes, however, that isn't forcing your kids to listen to it officially in the classroom. Now, if you started off your class with a prayer, that would be forcing religion on others.

So yes or no?

what part of YES did you not understand in my statement you quoted.

You said "yes, but..."

So I'm not allowed to practice my religion in a public school building?

Did I say that? No. However, you are NOT allowed to force your students to listen to your prayers in your classroom.

Yes, actually you did just say that. You said praying in the school building is "endorsing a religion".

You all know that the federal Capitol building was used as a church building back in the day, right?

I do know Jesus, he's my neighbor. I don't know if he loves me, but he's a helluva guy and makes great beer!

Sure it is.

No, it isn't. The county opened official meetings with a Christian prayer. The equivalent would be teachers starting class at the bell by leading the class in prayer.

You all know that the federal Capitol building was used as a church building back in the day, right?

Yes, and back in the day we had slaves, women couldn't vote, children were used as slave labor in plants, etc.

So you long for those days huh?

You all know that the federal Capitol building was used as a church building back in the day, right?

Why is that relevant to anything?

I sure do! Great guy! (Not being sarcastic btw) Just not a god to some.

I would totally fight for your and anyone else's right to pray to their god(s), the issue is when it is forced on others or endorsed by gov officials.

Yes, actually you did just say that. You said praying in the school building is "endorsing a religion".

No, I said PRAYING is endorsing a religion. Did I say you couldn't endorse religion in a building legally? No. I said you can't force children to listen to your prayers. Pay attention, you're falling behind on this one.

Even less relevant. C'mon, man.

Engle V. Vitale was an overstep of the court, just like this is.
