Federal court halts Christian prayers at North Carolina county meetings [W:656]

I didn't say it WAS a violation, I said it was endorsing a religion. Go thump your bible elsewhere.

As a public school teacher, if a few of us get together every morning to pray for our kids, are we endorsing a religion?

Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion! No one is denying them the right to pray- I fully support people's right to prayer, I could care less which god you pray to; however when this praying is done while in the process of conducting official government business then we have a problem!

Because praying 2 minutes before the official meeting time is different?

Do you have anything to add other than partisan bull****?

Don't like my posts, don't respond to them. Simple as that. Otherwise go pound sand.

Yes, however, that isn't forcing your kids to listen to it officially in the classroom. Now, if you started off your class with a prayer, that would be forcing religion on others.

Yes it is; those two minutes make a world of difference. I would also add this prayer should be done outside of the governments' premises.

Freedom means to be unencumbered by the government. If the government is restricting their ability to worship or pray in any way, I don't care what you say... that makes them less free.

So yes or no?

Your freedom of religion stops at the governments' door.

So there is nothing wrong with endorsing a religion. Good, then nothing wrong with what the county was doing. Move on.

Why? Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion.

Why on earth would anyone be offended by a prayer that probably speaks about making the right decisions for the citizens of the county, being kind to each other, opening their minds to others' opinions, being patient and understanding and helping others who are in need? Man.... that's just hateful.

Seriously. Unless you're praying to some evil spirit who wants you to kill the people you're supposed to be protecting, what's the big deal?

You proved the necessity of this sort of restriction in this very post. In this very post, you started deciding which religious prayers are ok and which ones aren't. The government doesn't get to do that.

Why? Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion.

So you'd be ok with Congress opening a session with a prayer to Allah? Because I sure wouldn't. Those books shouldn't be influencing our laws any more than yours.

Yes, I would be fine with that as long as it wasn't a prayer calling for evil. I'm okay with prayers to any deity as long as it's a peaceful prayer.

If the government tries to go up against God, the government will lose.

Every other government in history has lost that battle, this government will be no different.

It's one of the oldest lessons in the world.

Well then that wouldn't be fair to Satanist now would it?

Which god? Yours?

what part of YES did you not understand in my statement you quoted.

You said "yes, but..."

So I'm not allowed to practice my religion in a public school building?

Who cares about being fair to Satanists?

Just because you don't agree with their views, which by the way I don't support, doesn't mean they don't have the same right as you.
