Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember .....

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

This is Buck's view of the ideal functioning of law...

He is with a woman BBQing at a picnic table at a lake. I and a buddy walk up, say it smells good and just start helping ourselves to the food, telling the woman with you to get us a couple beesr out of your cooler.

Buck says "Get out of her or I'm calling the police!" So I grab Buck, break his nose, his collar bone and kick in a few of his ribs. The woman pulls out her cell phone, and my buddy grabs it, smashed it on the ground, throws her down and kicks her in the face. His boot puts a big gash across her face. Buck is a lawful man, so he just watches this as he finally does his legal duty and is crawling away to retreat. She is a lawful woman too. So, when she can, she runs away too.

Dutifully as required by law, he and the woman did finally retreat with their wounds. They get to a phone. Call the police. And, half an hour later they have given the police a description and the police have given them a case number.

But the officer explains there probably is no case because he and the woman had a legal duty to retreat from the get-go and you didn't. Indeed, it was Buck and the woman who provoked the situation because by not immediately retreating they were not following the law, for which my friend and I were only reacting to be provoked by their illegal failure to retreat.

This is how Buck wants society to function.

While it is ok for people to boycott, it's just as silly as people boycotting businesses for saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". I do believe boycotting an entire state though is raising the bar on idiocracy.

Hey, it's their money they can spend it how they want - that doesn't change the fact it wont work...

The best part is that the state of Florida has absolutely nothing to do with the verdict or trial, nor do any of the businesses that reside in the state.

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

Dear California. PLEASE have all of your residents (legal and otherwise) think twice before leaving your state. Then think a third time. Finally...just make the decision for them and tell them to stay the **** there. We will appreciate your efforts. Much love. The rest of the country.

Absolutely. However, I would question a lawmaker using his official position to call for a boycott like this.

Yep, I agree as well.

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

Have these progressive retards noticed that their boycotts don't work? if anything they have the opposite effect.

Apparently their boycott of their own mind is working just fine! :)

I can't say I'm shocked that a democrat lawmaker in California is calling for this considering the majority of democrat lawmakers are community organizers and activists... Obama is pretty much doing the same thing - not to mention the DOJ (community organizers and activists)...

Their babble is certainly unprofessional and misguided.. It's not their job to be taking positions on what happened in another state.

Well, Jesse Jackson wants all to boycott Concerts, State Events, and the Good Ole Daytona 500, along with some other sporting events. Now he isn't a Politician.....but once Jesse starts stutterin and sputterin. That means those of the Black Caucus will get up and throw the US a Shout out. Hear me Roar.

No ****. If they would have some foresight and create a calendar of events I'd plan my vacation schedule around them. Al of their little retarded progressive causes...they should probably do the same...go hang out together...say...in California. Now THAT would be a party....

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

So is the boycott on or what?

boycott the daytona 500?
that will cause the state to miss four, at most six, tourists from jesse 'hymietown' jackson's constituency

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

A California lawmaker is calling on Golden State residents to think "think twice" before spending time and money in Florida after a jury's acquittal of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in the killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.

Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), along with the California Legislative Black Caucus, announced plans Wednesday for a resolution calling for a boycott of Florida, which Holden said has a Stand Your Ground law that encourages vigilantism.

The calls for a Florida boycott by Holden and the Legislative Black Caucus add to a wave of anger that has grown since Zimmerman's acquittal Saturday. A day after the jury's verdict, singer Stevie Wonder told a crowd he wouldn't perform in Florida or any state with Stand Your Ground gun laws until they were repealed. Martin Luther King III suggested consumers boycott Florida orange juice.

A petition on the progressive site MoveOn.org calls for people to refrain from traveling to Florida until Stand Your Ground is repealed.....snip~

So the politicians from another state are going to tell people to Boycott Florida. A vacation hot spot.....(also in competition with California over that industry). Do you think this Politician deserves to be re-elected? Shouldn't this individual be about representing the people of California? Why is she off into another states business? Why is the Black Caucus from another state allowed to interfere in another states Rights?

Just what is the Progressive site MoveOn.org.....trying to stir up in this country? Should they be telling people around the country not to go to Florida or States with Stand your Ground Laws?

I think people should boycott any state with a Stand Your Ground law ... we're more civilized than that - but I wouldn't boycott because of the outcome of the trial, even if I disagreed with it - in effect you'd be saying that there was only one possible verdict ... if that's the case, why have the trial? it would be tantamount to a lynching ...

Yeah but Jesse will show up with a few Busloads.....all from Chicago, just so they knows they being Boycotted. ;)

Course while getting whatever free stuff he can.

Re: Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember ..

Wow, Florida is looking beter and better! :)

"Madonna, Usher, Pattie Labelle, Kanye West, Jay Z, the Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Will I AM, Erykah Badu and Rod Stewart are among 20 musical acts said to be joining Stevie Wonder's boycott of the state of Florida"

Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Madonna, Kanye West, Others Join Stevie Wonder's Florida Boycott (Report) - Yahoo! TV

Now if I was the People of Florida.....I would send reasons back to all of them. Don't ever expect to do a Superbowl in this Country again. Don't ever expect to sing another National Anthem. We will boycott your music and shows. Means way less money for all you pariahs of Society. Also Don't ever break any laws in Florida. No more breaks for any of yous. Sex Drugs and Music.....Cmon Down and Try and party. Speeding anything. Your Asses down here are ours to do with what we want. We will even send you personal Invitations.

One last thing.....Don't come back later and say your sorry. If your career goes down the Tubes. Don't worry the State of Florida will still be here after each of you has checked out the game of life. Cya.....wouldn't wanna be ya.

That is roughly half the country including California.

I believe it could probably be improved but my personal opinion is that the intent of the law is good.

The problem is that the majority are more civilized than that, but to deny there are some in society that are uncivilized would be naive.

EDIT - just to clarify the statement above is not in reference to race.

my guess is that these laws vary quite a bit ... Has anyone done an analysis of them that you know about? ... I think the intent varies as well ...

Lol Don't get me to lie to you. All I know is what came up from a quick peak at Wiki.

To be honest I didn't even know Mississippi had it until just seeing. I only knew about Castle law.

I don't like Florida's, but I really need to read up on others ...

I read a few articles and it seems the Stand-your-ground law is simply an extension of the Castle Doctrine. I am a firm believer in the Castle law (no duty to retreat while in your home or vehicle), I can see where there is potential gray area when it extends to "anywhere you have a right to be". I think it is a good law but see where it could potentially be abused.

I still like the idea of leaving (retreating) if that option is open to you ... if you can't, that's a different issue

If someone is jacking your car as you walk up you can always leave. It would kind of suck if your kid was in the back seat but the option to leave is there.

heebie ya forgot your jeebie on that one ... I said if you can ... if your child is in the back of your car, then maybe you can't ... but guess what? you might think twice about shooting the guy in the car with your child in the back, no? I don't think you even need a stand your ground law for the scenario you alluded to when it comes to protecting your child ...

BTW, what are you thinking leaving your child in a car like that!?!? In some places you get arrested for that ...

And if you were walking back to your car, exactly what would prevent you from retreating? The option you like is there without question.

The point of most Stand Your Ground laws is to provide you with the same legal protections offered by the Castle Doctrine without you being in your home. You are allowed to protect that which is valuable to you without the requirement of having to retreat as far as is possible. I don't see why anyone would be against them given the things that can occur these days.
