John Lewis: Supreme Court ruling " a dagger into the heart of voting rights act"

Homeless people either aren't registered to vote, or don't vote. I doubt that many, if any of them will be affected by voter ID laws. Plus, if they're receiving government assistance, they DO have a photo ID.

homeless people are people without a home.

what you call commons sense is just you treating a huge group of people like the borg. it isn't commons sense, it is rather ignorant

It's even more ignorant to believe that anyone who doesn't posess a photo ID is actually registered to vote.

I've lost my id several times in my life. in every case, I was actually registered to vote.

now extrapolate this anecdotal against millions of people, and your commons sense is shown for what it is.

And, when you lost it, what did you do?

irrelevant.

you claimed it is impossible that anybody could be registered to vote while not possessing a valid id. that is not common sense, that is stupid

You went and got another ID...huh? By that logic, the folks who want to vote, can carry their ass down to the DMV, or the courthouse, or where ever and get an ID.

Like it, or not, we're fixing to find out if you're right, or not, because voter ID laws are kicking in all over the country.

Yes, I could get an id without too much of a problem. Just about anyoe but a homeless person that lost his id could do so.

So again, the only demographic I see effected is the homeless.

And again, I don’t think that is enough concern to prevent us from requiring id

A homeless person can get an ID just as easily as anyone else.

false.

in my state it would be very difficult. in addition to a birth certificate, they would need some piece of mail with their address on it.

Almost sounds like, in your state, that a homeless person couldn't register to vote, neither.

A homeless person could not register to vote here, either, and most likely anywhere else. You have to have an address, and by definition, a homeless person doesn't have one.

but, all this talk about disenfranchising people who lack a picture ID is kind of silly. What proportion of the adult population lacks picture ID? How many don't have driver's licenses and don't have a bank account, and never use credit cards? That can't be more than 1% at the very most. Give those 1% ers an opportunity to go and get a free picture ID. Everyone should have one anyway.
